1 Of David. Contend, Yahweh, with my contenders.
Fight those fighting me. (1-4-1)

2 Encourage shield and grappling hook,
and arise to my help. (1-4-1)
ב החז֣ק מג֣ן וצנ֑ה

3 And do away with spear and imprison the call of my persecutors,
Say to my being, I am your salvation. (1-4-1)

4 Let them be ashamed and humiliated who seek my being.
Let them be repulsed and disappointed,

5 Let them be as chaff in the face of wind,
and the angel of Yahweh pushing. (1-4-1)

6 Let their way be dark and divided,
and the angel of Yahweh their persecutor. (1-4-1)

7 Because for nothing they buried destruction for me.
Their net for nothing, they excavate for me. (1-4-1)

ח֝נ֗ם חפר֥ו לנפשֽי

8 Let catastrophe come upon him unknown to him,
and let his net which he buried catch him.
In catastrophe, he will fall in it. (1-2-4-1)
ח תבוא֣הו שואה֮ לֽא־י֫ד֥ע
ורשת֣ו אשר־טמ֣ן תלכד֑ו
ב֝שוא֗ה יפל־בֽה

10 ♪f All my bones will say, Yahweh who is like you?
Delivering the poor from the resolute, even from him,

12 They repay me evil under the guise of good to bereave me of my being. (1-1)
יב ישלמ֣וני ר֭עה ת֥חת טוב֗ה שכ֣ול לנפשֽי 15

13 But I in their illness make sackcloth my clothing. I afflict my being with fasting.
And my prayer into my embrace returned. (1-4-1)
יג ואנ֤י בחלות֡ם לב֬ושי ש֗ק ענ֣יתי בצ֣ום נפש֑י
ו֝תפלת֗י על־חיק֥י תשֽוב

14 I walked as friend, as my kin,
mourning as one lamenting a mother, I prostrate myself. (1-4-1)
יד כרֽע־כא֣ח ל֭י התהל֑כתי
כאבל־א֝֗ם קד֥ר שחֽותי

15 But in my halting they were glad and gathered,
gathered above me, those who strike, unknown to me.
They ripped and were not mute. (1-2-4-1)
טו ובצלעי֮ שמח֪ו וֽנא֫ס֥פו
נאספ֬ו על֣י נ֭כים ול֣א יד֑עתי
קֽרע֥ו ולא־דֽמו

they gnash their teeth at me. (g-1-4-1)

17 My Lord how much do you see?
Turn me from their catastrophes,
from the young lions my uniqueness. (1-2-4-1)
יז אדני֮ כמ֪ה ת֫רא֥ה
הש֣יבה נ֭פשי משאיה֑ם
מ֝כפיר֗ים יחידתֽי

19 Let not my enemies be falsely glad over me.
Those hating me for nothing, let them not eye me with a wink. (1-4-1)

20 ♪C For they do not speak peace.
But above the moment of the earth,
they devise words of deceit. (C-1-2-4-1)

וע֥ל רגעי־א֑רץ
דבר֥י מ֝רמות יחשבֽון

25 Let them not say in their heart, Aha! ours he is.
Let them not say, We have swallowed him up. (1-4-1)
כה אל־יאמר֣ו ב֭לבם הא֣ח נפש֑נו
אל־י֝אמר֗ו בֽלענֽוהו

26 ♪~ Let them be ashamed and disappointed together who are glad in my hurt.
Let them be clothed in shame and humiliation,
who magnify themselves above me. (~1-2-4-1)
כו י֘ב֤שו ויחפר֨ו יחדו֮ שמח֪י רע֫ת֥י
יֽלבשו־ב֥שת וכלמ֑ה
הֽמגדיל֥ים עלֽי

27 Let them shout for joy and be glad who delight in my righteousness,
and let them say continually, Yahweh be magnified,
