Jeremiah 15

Here in verse 1 is yet another curious use of נפשׁ. Is the Bible popular only out of self-interest? Surely we can find a more mature motivation.

Verse 6 has an unusual doubling of the object marker.

Who is speaking in verse 15? The prophet? The prophet on behalf of the chosen? This anticipates the reality of incarnation. To whom is Yahweh speaking in verse 19?

Verse7 KJV's fan with a fan is a play on words mimicking the Hebrew.

Jeremiah 15 Fn Min Max Syll

1 And Yahweh said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, I would have no integrity to this people.
Send from before me, and let them go forth.

Nehemiah 6

Come with me into this book I never particularly liked, and imagine that Nehemiah is, as his name suggests, Yah Sighs, or if you like, repents.

But I never use that word. If I want to repent - because that is what I think I have done or should do, I feel free to turn from one mode of behaviour to the one that God desires, or just to turn to God. To do justice. To love mercy. It can be done. Or I feel free to sigh about those other people who grieve me for some reason - (even in God).

Then no one will need to give me a formula for repentance or an explanation to avoid it. And I lose my lust for punishment of others, for power over them and for torturing their immortal souls. I find myself with others instead of against them in prejudice, and with a preferential option for the widow, the orphan, and the refugee, instead of a desire for self-protection. This is the work of Holy Spirit.

Nehemiah נחם+יה is Yah is Comfort, like the Advocate in the process of rebuilding the temple of God, the open temple that is being built today. But Bob, he's building a wall! Yes, he is. But it's a different sort of wall. And it is clear that Nehemiah has enemies on both sides of it. This man does not usurp the role of king. His interest is not his own, it is the interest of the coming son of David. Just as the Spirit's interest is in the Son that has already come. As the Apocalypse indicates (21:25), the gates of the city will be open in the day and there will be no night there.

1 And it happened that as Sanballet and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had built the wall, (and there was not a breach left in it,
but also until that time, I had not installed the portals in the gates),

2 Chronicles 17

It is a long inter-generational process to teach and to learn. Is a temporary reprieve better than nothing? Or is there really nothing there? (Psalm 77 next Sunday will remind you why I can ask such a dreadful question.) We wait for a time when the bear will peaceably eat its berries. And the wolf lie down with the lamb etc. If we indeed know (as some say) the word of God, then we should neither need nor should we provoke ... a third of the earth burnt up (without harming the oil and the wine) to learn a lesson of grace and humility.

But power gives the need for protection. So the the next chapters will document the ebb and flow of governmental failures. This record of failure, given as an example to all the nations, does not excuse anyone from responsibility to govern and to influence policy.

Genesis 1

There must be a time when we begin again. The whole puzzle needs review. This is my initial format for it. I can do one chapter at a time. The link at the top is to whatever the first draft was. But this time we have a largely complete glossary and a sense of the stem for each without all the duplication evident in earlier glossaries which list the many forms of a stem and its noun and verbal forms as separate. The top section is best viewed on a computer using a mouse. The iPhone does not support tool tips. [Abandoned this idea - too much data]

Below the word by word text is the glossary for this chapter. Excluding Names and Grammar just to keep the size reasonable. Names and Grammar and some form of linked glossary will eventually appear in one place. Maybe a glossary page.

I should go through this and mark the uncertainties and soft spots... Which ones do you see? Check verse 2 for instance... Is abyss implicitly specific? I note that my definite article if it is needed should have been with abyss and not as the tail end of the face of.

Obviously we are reading in Hebrew word order, so some English juggling is required. I have left in the color coding that I calculated from the gematria. Not sure why there is a predominance of blue and green in this chapter.

Genesis 2

Joshua 17

This chapter compares Manasseh with Joseph. It is a comparison with undertones, subtext that may be difficult to hear.

I have succumbed to a second gloss for one stem, אוץ. Everywhere else I have managed - like an awkward jigsaw puzzle piece - to squeeze it into the gloss importune. Here I allow tight. There is no hint of comparison in the grammar. I have forced myself to agree that it may have this sense of constraint. I didn't gloss it as narrow, which I, along with many others, have used for אטם.

Perhaps I should capitalize Quince as a location name. I live near a large public property with both old and new quince trees, from which we have occasionally pilfered a few to make jelly with. So the accidental name here is a bit of a joke. Maybe Joseph would have been satisfied with pilfering some of Manasseh's quinces. But he had a tougher assignment.

1 And this was the lot for the branch of Manasseh, for he was the firstborn of Joseph.
For Makir, the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of the Gilead, for he was a man of war, so there was for him the Gilead and Bashan.

These are the children of Manasseh child of Joseph, the males in their families.

Jeremiah 5

Jeremiah laments that even the great are corrupted. They say - no evil will come upon us (verse 12). The sky is not falling. We restored the ozone layer. So there are a few fires and storms, but the sea level is not our problem and global warming, if there is any, is out of our control.

The prophecy here is very germane to us. When we believe lies, we cannot hear the truth no matter what we thought we believed. If one lives one whole life with a falsehood, how difficult it is to return to the one who is truth.

Parts of this are difficult. I am running too fast to think. Must slow down. My rants are commented out. But I fear that neither our political leaders nor our religious leaders can read these things and apply them correctly to today. There is actually quite a bit of practical advice here for the modern world. And the post-modern. Must figure out how to really translate this... What we have so far is a reading for the music. Much to learn...

20 Make this clear in the house of Jacob,
and broadcast it in Judah, saying,

21 Hear, if you will, this, O silly people and without heart,
Eyes they have, and see not. Ears they have, and hear not.

22 Me do you not fear? An oracle of Yahweh. Or from my presence do you not writhe, who set the sand of the border for the sea, an everlasting statute and not it will pass beyond it?
And its waves shake, but will not overpower, and murmur but they do not pass beyond.

23 But this people has a heart, rebellious and altered.
They have turned aside and gone.

24 And they will not say in their heart, Let us now fear Yahweh our God, the one who gives showers, early rain and maturing rain, in its time,
weeks, the decrees of harvest. He will keep watch for us.

25 Your iniquities bend these things,
and your sins withhold good from you.

26 For the wicked are found in my people.
They scrutinize subsidies as traps. They stand firm impairing. They catch persons.

27 As a cage is full of fowl, so their houses are full of deceit,
so they are great and rich.

28 They are stout. They gleam. They even pass beyond the things of evil. The case they will not advocate: the case for an orphan. Yet they prosper.
And judgment for the needy, they do not judge.

29 About these things, will I not visit? An oracle of Yahweh.
Or with a nation that is like this, will my integrity not be avenged?

30 An appalling and horrendous thing is in the land. 3e 4B 13

31 The prophets prophesy in falsehood, and the priests rule at their hand, and my people love it so.
And what will you do in the aftermath?
