Genesis 34

The last chapter of Genesis to be read. I wonder why this one is the last? Its percentage guessed was 47% rather lower than the others. The reason for this may be simply a few words that were the wrong stem from my initial algorithm for guessing the stem from the word. Three errors, שכם can be backside, or rise up early or a name, Shechem (Shekem). חמר if it has the mater ו will be the name Hamor (Xamor) or without a vav will be ass. And אתה could be the stand alone pronoun, you, or could be a particle with a third person feminine pronoun (more rare), i.e. her. Fixing these brought the chapter up to 49% guessed. Not much difference.

Curious to me that נער (lad, lass) is marked as feminine only by vowels. My algorithms ignored vowels so it would have missed the feminine.

Verse 7. The working of outrage and insult can be read in to the text. שׁכב, lie down is rendered as rape שׁגל by JB. Certainly possible, but definitely interpretive. The whole problem is that interpretation determines thoughts and behaviour of those who read the text. And while I do think this is disgraceful and bad behaviour, I have to struggle with what is said, not what I think. The risk of overkill in my spirit is very high.

Genesis 34 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And Dinah went out, the daughter of Leah, which she gave birth to for Jacob,
to see among the daughters of the land.
3e 4C 16
7
2 And Shechem saw her, the son of Hamor the Hivite, a principal of the land,
and he took her, and lay down with her, and afflicted her.
3c 4B 17
14
3 And his very self cleaved to Dinah, the daughter of Jacob,
and he loved the lass, and spoke concerning the heart of the lass.
3e 4B 12
18
4 And Shechem said to Hamor, his father, saying,
Get for me this girl for a wife.
3d 4B 12
11
5 And Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah, his daughter. And his sons were with their livestock in the field,
and Jacob kept silence until they came.
3d 4C 26
10
6 So Hamor, the father of Shechem, went forth to Jacob,
to speak with him.
3d 4A 13
5
7 And the children of Jacob came from the field when they heard, and the men were tortured. They were very fierce,
for he had acted senselessly in Israel to lie down with the daughter of Jacob. And such is not done.
3e 4C 29
23
8 And Hamor spoke with them, saying,
Shechem, my son, his very self is attached in your daughter. Give her, please, to him for a wife.
3d 4C 9
20
9 And intermarry with us.
Your daughters, you will give to us, and our sons, you will take for you.
3e 4A 7
17
10 And with us you may settle.
And the land will be before you. Settle, and buy and sell, and hold fast within it.
3e 4B 7
21
11 And Shechem said to her father, and to her kin, May I find grace in your sight,
and what you say to me, I will give.
3d 4C 20
9
12 Increase over me excessive dowry and endowment, and I will give as you say to me,
and you give me the lass for a wife.
3e 4C 21
11
13 And the children of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father in deception,
and they spoke, in that he had defiled Dinah their sister.
3d 4B 24
10
14 And they said to them, We are not able to act on this word, to grant our sister to a man who has a foreskin,
for a reproach it is to us.
3e 4C 31
6
15 But in this, we will assent to you.
If you will be as we are, that your every male be circumcised.
3e 4C 7
14
16 Then we will give our daughters to you, and your daughters, we will take to us,
and we will settle with you, and we will be one people.
3e 4C 21
14
17 And if you will not hear us, to be circumcised,
then we will take our daughter and we will go.
3c 4A 12
12
18 And their words were good in the eyes of Hamor,
and in the eyes of Shechem, the son of Hamor.
3e 4B 11
8
19 And the lad did not delay to act on the matter, for he delighted in the daughter of Jacob,
and he was more glorious than all the house of his father.
3e 4C 20
9
20 And Hamor, and Shechem his son, came to the gate of their city,
and they spoke to the men of their city, saying,
3d 4B 14
10
21 These persons, they are peaceable with us, and they will settle in the land, and be its vendors. And the land, behold, is broad of hand before them.
Their daughters, let us take to us to be wives, and our sons, let us give to them.
3c 4C 40
21
22 But in this the men will assent to us to settle with us to be one people,
if our every male be circumcised as they are circumcised.
3e 4C 24
15
23 Their livestock, and their acquisitions, and all their cattle, will they not be ours?
Surely let us assent to them, and let them settle with us.
3e 4C 17
12
24 And they heard Hamor and Shechem, his son, all who came out to the gate of his city.
And every male was circumcised, all who came out to the gate of his city.
3e 4C 20
14
25 And it was on the third day when they were still sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, brothers of Dinah, each took his sword and they came against the city confidently,
and they slew every male.
3e 4C 41
7
26 And Hamor and Shechem, his son, they slew with the edge of the sword,
and they took Dinah from the house of Shechem, and they went out.
3c 4B 15
14
27 The children of Jacob came to the profaned, and they looted the city,
in that they had defiled their sister.
3e 4C 18
7
28 Their flocks, and their herds, and their asses,
and what was in the city, and what was in the field, they took.
3c 4A 14
16
29 And all their wealth, and all their little ones, and their wives, they took captive, and looted,
and all that was in the house.
3e 4C 21
8

30 And Jacob said to Simeon and to Levi, You have agitated me to make me stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanite, and the Perizzite.
And I, men counted, they will be gathered against me, and will strike me, and I will be exterminated, I and my house.
3e 4C 37
26
31 And they said,
As a harlot, should they deal with our sister?
