2 Chronicles 5 | |||
וַתִּשְׁלַם֙ כָּל־הַמְּלָאכָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֥ה שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה לְבֵ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה וַיָּבֵ֨א שְׁלֹמֹ֜ה אֶת־קָדְשֵׁ֣י ׀ דָּוִ֣יד אָבִ֗יו וְאֶת־הַכֶּ֤סֶף וְאֶת־הַזָּהָב֙ וְאֶת־כָּל־הַכֵּלִ֔ים נָתַ֕ן בְּאֹצְר֖וֹת בֵּ֥ית הָאֱלֹהִֽים | 1 | And all the lines of work were whole which Solomon had constructed for the house of Yahweh. And Solomon brought the holy things of David his father, and the silver and the gold and all the vessels, he gave into the treasuries of the house of God. | 18 39 |
אָז֩ יַקְהֵ֨יל שְׁלֹמֹ֜ה אֶת־זִקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וְאֶת־כָּל־רָאשֵׁ֨י הַמַּטּ֜וֹת נְשִׂיאֵ֧י הָאָב֛וֹת לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֶל־יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם לְֽהַעֲל֞וֹת אֶת־אֲר֧וֹן בְּרִית־יְהוָ֛ה מֵעִ֥יר דָּוִ֖יד הִ֥יא צִיּֽוֹן | 2 | Then Solomon convened the elders of Israel and all the preeminent of branches, the principals of the ancestors of the children of Israel to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of Yahweh from the city of David. This is Zion. | 36 18 |
3 | And everyone of Israel congregated to the king in the festival. This is the seventh new moon. | 16 7 |
וַיָּבֹ֕אוּ כֹּ֖ל זִקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ הַלְוִיִּ֖ם אֶת־הָאָרֽוֹן | 4 | And all the elders of Israel came, and the Levites were bearing the ark. | 9 10 |
וַיַּעֲל֤וּ אֶת־הָאָרוֹן֙ וְאֶת־אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֔ד וְאֶת־כָּל־כְּלֵ֥י הַקֹּ֖דֶשׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּאֹ֑הֶל הֶעֱל֣וּ אֹתָ֔ם הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים הַלְוִיִּֽם | 5 | And they brought up the ark and the tent of engagement and all the vessels of the sanctuary that were in the tent. The priests, the Levites, brought them up. | 27 12 |
וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה וְכָל־עֲדַ֧ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל הַנּוֹעָדִ֥ים עָלָ֖יו לִפְנֵ֣י הָאָר֑וֹן מְזַבְּחִים֙ צֹ֣אן וּבָקָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹֽא־יִסָּפְר֛וּ וְלֹ֥א יִמָּנ֖וּ מֵרֹֽב | 6 | Then the king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel engaged with him, were with him before the ark, offering sheep and oxen that were uncounted and unfathomable for abundance. | 25 19 |
וַיָּבִ֣יאוּ הַ֠כֹּהֲנִים אֶת־אֲר֨וֹן בְּרִית־יְהוָ֧ה אֶל־מְקוֹמ֛וֹ אֶל־דְּבִ֥יר הַבַּ֖יִת אֶל־קֹ֣דֶשׁ הַקְּדָשִׁ֑ים אֶל־תַּ֖חַת כַּנְפֵ֥י הַכְּרוּבִֽים | 7 | And the priests brought the ark of the covenant of Yahweh to its place, to the word-place of the house, to the Holy of Holies, under the wings of the cherubim. | 31 8 |
וַיִּהְי֤וּ הַכְּרוּבִים֙ פֹּרְשִׂ֣ים כְּנָפַ֔יִם עַל־מְק֖וֹם הָאָר֑וֹן וַיְכַסּ֧וּ הַכְּרוּבִ֛ים עַל־הָאָר֥וֹן וְעַל־בַּדָּ֖יו מִלְמָֽעְלָה | 8 | And there are the cherubim spreading their two wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and its shafts from above. | 17 17 |
וַֽיַּאֲרִיכוּ֮ הַבַּדִּים֒ וַיֵּרָאוּ֩ רָאשֵׁ֨י הַבַּדִּ֤ים מִן־הָאָרוֹן֙ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הַדְּבִ֔יר וְלֹ֥א יֵרָא֖וּ הַח֑וּצָה וַֽיְהִי־שָׁ֔ם עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה | 9 | And they retracted the shafts and the tops of the shafts could be seen from above the ark facing the word-place, but they were not seen outside. And it is there until this day. | 34 8 |
אֵ֚ין בָּֽאָר֔וֹן רַ֚ק שְׁנֵ֣י הַלֻּח֔וֹת אֲשֶׁר־נָתַ֥ן מֹשֶׁ֖ה בְּחֹרֵ֑ב אֲשֶׁ֨ר כָּרַ֤ת יְהוָה֙ עִם־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְּצֵאתָ֖ם מִמִּצְרָֽיִם | 10 | There was nothing in the ark but the two tablets that Moses yielded in Horeb, which Yahweh cut with the children of Israel at their going out from Egypt. | 19 19 |
וַיְהִ֕י בְּצֵ֥את הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים מִן־הַקֹּ֑דֶשׁ כִּ֠י כָּל־הַכֹּהֲנִ֤ים הַֽנִּמְצְאִים֙ הִתְקַדָּ֔שׁוּ אֵ֖ין לִשְׁמ֥וֹר לְמַחְלְקֽוֹת | 11 | And it happened when the priests came out from the sanctuary. (For all the priests that were found were sanctified. There was nothing to keep the divisions.) | 12 21 |
וְהַלְוִיִּ֣ם הַמְשֹׁרֲרִ֣ים לְכֻלָּ֡ם לְאָסָ֡ף לְהֵימָ֣ן לִֽ֠ידֻתוּן וְלִבְנֵיהֶ֨ם וְלַאֲחֵיהֶ֜ם מְלֻבָּשִׁ֣ים בּ֗וּץ בִּמְצִלְתַּ֙יִם֙ וּבִנְבָלִ֣ים וְכִנֹּר֔וֹת עֹמְדִ֖ים מִזְרָ֣ח לַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ וְעִמָּהֶ֤ם כֹּֽהֲנִים֙ לְמֵאָ֣ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֔ים מַחְצְרִ֖ים בַּחֲצֹֽצְרֽוֹת | 12 | And the Levites, the singers, to all of them, of Asaph, of Heyman, of Jeduthun, and of their children, and of their kin, in their clothing of sea silk, with cymbals, and with lutes and harps, were standing from the sunrise to the altar, and with them were priests, a hundred and twenty trumpeting with the trumpets. | 53 20 |
וַיְהִ֣י כְ֠אֶחָד לַמְחַצְּרִ֨ים וְלַמְשֹֽׁרֲרִ֜ים לְהַשְׁמִ֣יעַ קוֹל־אֶחָ֗ד לְהַלֵּ֣ל וּלְהֹדוֹת֮ לַיהוָה֒ וּכְהָרִ֣ים ק֠וֹל בַּחֲצֹצְר֨וֹת וּבִמְצִלְתַּ֜יִם וּבִכְלֵ֣י הַשִּׁ֗יר וּבְהַלֵּ֤ל לַיהוָה֙ כִּ֣י ט֔וֹב כִּ֥י לְעוֹלָ֖ם חַסְדּ֑וֹ וְהַבַּ֛יִת מָלֵ֥א עָנָ֖ן בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה | 13 | And so it was as one for the trumpeters and for the singers to be heard, one voice to praise and to give thanks to Yahweh. And as they lifted voice high with the trumpets and with the cymbals and instruments, the song and the praise to Yahweh, "for it is good for forever is his kindness", so the house filled with cloud, the house of Yahweh. | 58 11 |
וְלֹא־יָֽכְל֧וּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֛ים לַעֲמ֥וֹד לְשָׁרֵ֖ת מִפְּנֵ֣י הֶעָנָ֑ן כִּֽי־מָלֵ֥א כְבוֹד־יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־בֵּ֥ית הָאֱלֹהִֽים | 14 | And the priests were not able to stand to minister from the presence of the cloud, for the glory of Yahweh filled the house of God. | 19 12 |

Who was that Jeduthun?
One begins to get a sense of the completion of what Moses began when the building of the initial sanctuary in the wilderness. The description of the music is particularly notable here. It's very cheerful music. Note particularly the lower key on Jeduthun though. This is worth some study given the psalms (39, 62, 77) dedicated to him. Likely a tragedy, do you think? And does the lower reciting note tend to suggest this? Why else note children and kin in this particular context?
