Micah 1

Some chapters are more foreign than others. For destruction, however, consider the carnage on our highways and byways, and the devastation that is Syria today, though all these names be foreign to us.  You may have noticed that the word of Yahweh is tangible and visible - something that happens that we can gaze on. And this is addressed to all of us. So throw in some familiar names and you will get it.

דְּבַר־יְהוָ֣ה ׀ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָיָ֗ה אֶל־מִיכָה֙ הַמֹּ֣רַשְׁתִּ֔י בִּימֵ֥י יוֹתָ֛ם אָחָ֥ז יְחִזְקִיָּ֖ה מַלְכֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֑ה אֲשֶׁר־חָזָ֥ה עַל־שֹׁמְר֖וֹן וִירֽוּשָׁלִָֽם	1		The word of Yahweh that happened to Micah the Morashite in the days of Jotham Ahaz Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he gazed on over Samaria and Jerusalem.	3d	4B	30 11
שִׁמְעוּ֙ עַמִּ֣ים כֻּלָּ֔ם הַקְשִׁ֖יבִי אֶ֣רֶץ וּמְלֹאָ֑הּ וִיהִי֩ אֲדֹנָ֨י יְהוִ֤ה בָּכֶם֙ לְעֵ֔ד אֲדֹנָ֖י מֵהֵיכַ֥ל קָדְשֽׁוֹ	2		Hear, peoples, all of them. Attend, earth and her fullness, and let be my Lord Yahweh among you witness my Lord from temple his holy.	3e	4C	14 19
כִּֽי־הִנֵּ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה יֹצֵ֣א מִמְּקוֹמ֑וֹ וְיָרַ֥ד וְדָרַ֖ךְ עַל־בָּ֥מֳתֵי אָֽרֶץ	3		For behold Yahweh comes forth from his place, and descends, and will tread over the high places of the land.	3e	4B	9 12
וְנָמַ֤סּוּ הֶֽהָרִים֙ תַּחְתָּ֔יו וְהָעֲמָקִ֖ים יִתְבַּקָּ֑עוּ כַּדּוֹנַג֙ מִפְּנֵ֣י הָאֵ֔שׁ כְּמַ֖יִם מֻגָּרִ֥ים בְּמוֹרָֽד	4		And molten will be the hills under him and the valleys split in two, like wax before the fire, like water hurled down a descent.	3e	4C	18 15
בְּפֶ֤שַׁע יַֽעֲקֹב֙ כָּל־זֹ֔את וּבְחַטֹּ֖אות בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל מִֽי־פֶ֣שַׁע יַעֲקֹ֗ב הֲלוֹא֙ שֹֽׁמְר֔וֹן וּמִי֙ בָּמ֣וֹת יְהוּדָ֔ה הֲל֖וֹא יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם	5		By the transgression of Jacob is all this and by the sin of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? And what the high places of Judah? Are they not Jerusalem?	3e	4C	16 22
וְשַׂמְתִּ֥י שֹׁמְר֛וֹן לְעִ֥י הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה לְמַטָּ֣עֵי כָ֑רֶם וְהִגַּרְתִּ֤י לַגַּי֙ אֲבָנֶ֔יהָ וִיסֹדֶ֖יהָ אֲגַלֶּֽה	6		And I will render Samaria a shambles, the field to plantings of a vineyard. And I will wring out into a gorge her stones, and her foundations I will lay bare.	3d	4C	16 17
וְכָל־פְּסִילֶ֣יהָ יֻכַּ֗תּוּ וְכָל־אֶתְנַנֶּ֙יהָ֙ יִשָּׂרְפ֣וּ בָאֵ֔שׁ וְכָל־עֲצַבֶּ֖יהָ אָשִׂ֣ים שְׁמָמָ֑ה כִּ֠י מֵאֶתְנַ֤ן זוֹנָה֙ קִבָּ֔צָה וְעַד־אֶתְנַ֥ן זוֹנָ֖ה יָשֽׁוּבוּ	7		And all her graven images will be beaten, and all her fees will be incinerated in the fire, and all her idols I will render desolate, for from the fee of her harlotry she collected it and to the fee of harlotry they will be returned.	3e	4C	31 18
עַל־זֹאת֙ אֶסְפְּדָ֣ה וְאֵילִ֔ילָה אֵילְכָ֥ה שׁוֹלָ֖ל וְעָר֑וֹם אֶעֱשֶׂ֤ה מִסְפֵּד֙ כַּתַּנִּ֔ים וְאֵ֖בֶל כִּבְנ֥וֹת יַעֲנָֽה	8		Over this I will wail and I will howl. I will walk spoiled and naked. I will do wailing like dragons and lament like the daughters of an ostrich.	3e	4C	16 16
כִּ֥י אֲנוּשָׁ֖ה מַכּוֹתֶ֑יהָ כִּי־בָ֙אָה֙ עַד־יְהוּדָ֔ה נָגַ֛ע עַד־שַׁ֥עַר עַמִּ֖י עַד־יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם	9	f	For incurable is her defeat, that comes to Judah. It touches to the gate of my people to Jerusalem.	3d	4A	8 18
בְּגַת֙ אַל־תַּגִּ֔ידוּ בָּכ֖וֹ אַל־תִּבְכּ֑וּ בְּבֵ֣ית לְעַפְרָ֔ה עָפָ֖ר הִתְפַּלָּֽשִׁי	10		In Gath do not make it clear. To weep do not weep. In the house of Her-Dust, wallow in dust.	3e	4B	11 11
עִבְרִ֥י לָכֶ֛ם יוֹשֶׁ֥בֶת שָׁפִ֖יר עֶרְיָה־בֹ֑שֶׁת לֹ֤א יָֽצְאָה֙ יוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת צַֽאֲנָ֔ן מִסְפַּד֙ בֵּ֣ית הָאֵ֔צֶל יִקַּ֥ח מִכֶּ֖ם עֶמְדָּתֽוֹ	11		Pass through for yourself, inhabitant of Shaphir, shame exposed. The inhabitant of Zaanan did not come forth wailing for the next house. It will receive from you its standing.	3d	4C	13 22
כִּֽי־חָ֥לָֽה לְט֖וֹב יוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת מָר֑וֹת כִּֽי־יָ֤רַד רָע֙ מֵאֵ֣ת יְהוָ֔ה לְשַׁ֖עַר יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם	12		For she entreated for goodness the inhabitant of Maroth, but evil a hundredfold descended from Yahweh to the gate of Jerusalem.	3e	4C	9 14
רְתֹ֧ם הַמֶּרְכָּבָ֛ה לָרֶ֖כֶשׁ יוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת לָכִ֑ישׁ רֵאשִׁ֨ית חַטָּ֥את הִיא֙ לְבַת־צִיּ֔וֹן כִּי־בָ֥ךְ נִמְצְא֖וּ פִּשְׁעֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל	13		Harness the chariot to the steed, inhabitant of Lachish. The head of the sin, she is, of the daughter of Zion, for in you were found the transgressions of Israel.	3c	4B	14 19
לָכֵן֙ תִּתְּנִ֣י שִׁלּוּחִ֔ים עַ֖ל מוֹרֶ֣שֶׁת גַּ֑ת בָּתֵּ֤י אַכְזִיב֙ לְאַכְזָ֔ב לְמַלְכֵ֖י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל	14		Therefore you will give extensions to the new wine of Gath. The houses of I-Will-Lie will be a lie for the kings of Israel.	3e	4C	12 13
עֹ֗ד הַיֹּרֵשׁ֙ אָ֣בִי לָ֔ךְ יוֹשֶׁ֖בֶת מָֽרֵשָׁ֑ה עַד־עֲדֻּלָּ֥ם יָב֖וֹא כְּב֥וֹד יִשְׂרָאֵֽל	15	~	Still I will bring a possession for you, inhabitant of Mareshah. To Adullam he will come, the glory of Israel.	3e	4B	13 11
קָרְחִ֣י וָגֹ֔זִּי עַל־בְּנֵ֖י תַּעֲנוּגָ֑יִךְ הַרְחִ֤בִי קָרְחָתֵךְ֙ כַּנֶּ֔שֶׁר כִּ֥י גָל֖וּ מִמֵּֽךְ ס	16		Make yourself bald and shear yourself over the children of your delicacies. Enlarge your baldness like an eagle, for they are exiled from you.	3e	4C	13 15
