Jeremiah 2

All through here, traditional translation is pleading, though the verb used is one of strife, or dispute or contention, or making the case (Psalm 35:1 רִיבָ֣ה יְ֭הוָה אֶת־יְרִיבַ֑י). It's curious to me that I used plead only once and that for משׁפת. I have now changed that in Joel 4. That's a different sort of error, an accident, a random thought from a year ago. Yet there is a plea to recognize gift and to act with justice.
Jeremiah 2
1 And the word of Yahweh happened to me saying, 10
2 Go and proclaim in the ears of Jerusalem saying, Thus says Yahweh, I remember you, the loving-kindness of your youth, the love of your consummations,
when you went after me in the wilderness in an uncultivated land.
38
15
3 Holy is Israel to Yahweh, the beginning of his revenue.
All devouring him offend. Evil will come to them, an oracle of Yahweh.
13
17
4 Hear the word of Yahweh, house of Jacob,
and all the families of the house of Israel.
10
9
5 Thus says Yahweh, What have your ancestors found against me? Injustice, that they are distant from me?
And they walk following futility and are futile?
22
13
6 And they do not say, Where is Yahweh who brought us up from the land of Egypt,
and led us in the wilderness, in a land of steppe and ditch, in an arid land, and shadowing death, in a land no-one passes through and without human inhabitant there?
21
40
7 And I brought you to a land, a plantation for eating, bearing fruit, and goodness,
but when you entered, you defiled my land, and my inheritance you rendered abhorrent.
19
20
8 The priests did not say, Where is Yahweh? And those occupied with instruction knew nothing. The shepherds have transgressed against me.
The prophets prophesied by Baal and rushed after what is useless.
29
19
9 Therefore yet I will dispute with you, an oracle of Yahweh,
and with the children of your children, I will dispute.
11
9
10 For pass beyond the islands of Kittim and see, and send for Qeidar and be very discerning,
and see, lo, is there such as this?
21
7
11 Does a nation amend gods? But they are not gods.
And my people have amended their glory, even without use.
15
12
12 Be desolate, heavens, over this,
and be sweeping, be very deserted, an oracle of Yahweh.
6
12
13 For my people have done two evils.
They have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, to hew for themselves wells, broken wells that do not abide the waters.
9
28
14 Is Israel a servant if he is born of the house?
Why is he looted?
12
7
15 Upon him roared young lions. They have given their voice.
They have set his earth a desolation. His cities are charred. Nary an inhabitant.
12
17
16 Even the children of Noph and Tahapanes,
have curtained scalp.
8
4
17 Have you not done this to yourself?
To forsake Yahweh your God at the time he led you in the way.
7
17
18 And now what is it to you to journey to Egypt to party with the waters of Sichor?
Or what is it to you to journey to Ashur to party with river waters?
15
13
19 Your hurt will warn you and your returning will correct you, so know and see that evil and bitter it is to forsake Yahweh your God.
And my dread is not against you, an oracle of my Lord Yahweh of hosts.
31
18
20 For from everlasting I have broken your shackles. I have snapped your bonds and you said, I will not go beyond,
but over every haughty hillock and under every green tree, you saunter into harlotry.
23
21
21 And I myself had planted you a noble vine, all of her from the seed of truth,
so why have you changed for me into the stubborn alien vine.
15
14
22 For if you scour with alkali, and you increasingly purify yourself,
inscribed is your iniquity in my presence, an oracle of my Lord Yahweh.
14
15
23 How do you say, I am not defiled. After the Baalim, I have not walked. See your way in the gorge. Know what have you done,
a hot young dromedary, fleet in criss-crossing her ways.
28
12
24 A wild ass taught in the wilderness, in the desire of her throat, spirit sighing heavily, her opportunity, who will turn her away?
All seeking her not will tire. In her month they will find her.
25
16
25 Withhold your foot from being barefoot, and your gullet from thirst,
and you said, Desperate? No. For I have loved strangers and after them I will go.
13
18
26 As a thief is ashamed that he is found out, so ashamed is the house of Israel,
they, their kings, their nobility, their priests, and their prophets.
17
17
27 Saying to a tree, My father you are, and to a stone You, you have given birth to me, for they have faced nape to me and not their face,
but in the time of their hurt, they say, Arise and save us.
27
14
28 And where are your gods whom you have constructed for yourself? Let them arise if they can save you in the time of your hurt,
for the count of your cities, they are your gods, Judah.
27
15
29 Why do you dispute with me?
All of you have transgressed against me, an oracle of Yahweh.
7
10
30 In vain have I struck your children. Chastening they did not receive.
Your sword devoured your prophets like a destroying lion.
15
14
31 O generation, you, you have seen the word of Yahweh. Am I the wilderness to Israel? a land of gloom?
Why do my people say, We are restless. we no longer come to you.
26
16
32 Does a maiden forget her trappings, a daughter-in-law her ribbons?
But my people have forgotten me, days without count.
14
12
33 Why do you practice well your way to seek love?
Therefore you teach even the evil women your ways.
12
15
34 Even in your hems was found the blood of the beings of the innocent needy.
It is not in digging hard that what is over all these is brought forth.
17
12
35 And you say, Because I am innocent, surely his anger will turn from me.
Note me well judging you over your pronouncement, I have not sinned.
14
13
36 Why do you gad about so much to disguise your way?
Even from Egypt you will be ashamed, as you were ashamed from Ashur.
11
15
37 Even from this you will go forth, and your hands over your head.
For Yahweh has refused your confidences and you will not thrive in them.
