Jeremiah 2

All through here, traditional translation is pleading, though the verb used is one of strife, or dispute or contention, or making the case (Psalm 35:1 רִיבָ֣ה יְ֭הוָה אֶת־יְרִיבַ֑י). It's curious to me that I used plead only once and that for משׁפת. I have now changed that in Joel 4. That's a different sort of error, an accident, a random thought from a year ago. Yet there is a plea to recognize gift and to act with justice.
Jeremiah 2 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And the word of Yahweh happened to me, saying, 3e 3g 10
2 Go and proclaim in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus says Yahweh, I remember you, the kindness of your youth, the love of your consummations,
when you went after me in the wilderness a land not sown.

3 C Holy is Israel to Yahweh, the beginning of his income.
All devouring him offend. Evil will come to them, an oracle of Yahweh.

17
4 Hear the word of Yahweh, house of Jacob,
and all the families of the house of Israel.

5 B Thus says Yahweh, What have your ancestors found against me? Injustice, that they are distant from me?
And they walk following futility and are futile?
3d 4B 22
13

6 And they do not say, Where is Yahweh who brought us up from the land of Egypt,
and led us in the wilderness, in a land of steppe and ditch in an arid land, and shadowing death, in a land no-one passes through and without human inhabitant there?

7 And I brought you to a land, a plantation for eating, bearing fruit, and goodness,
but when you entered, you defiled my land, and my inheritance you rendered abhorrent.

8 The priests did not say, Where is Yahweh? And those occupied with instruction knew nothing. The shepherds have transgressed against me.
The prophets prophesied by Baal and rushed after what is useless.

and with the children of your children, I will dispute.

and see, lo, is there such as this?

And my people have amended their glory, even without use.

and be sweeping, be very deserted, an oracle of Yahweh.

13 For my people have done two evils.
They have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, to hew for themselves wells, broken wells that do not abide the waters.

15 Upon him roared young lions. They have given their voice.
They have set his earth a desolation. His cities are charred. Nary an inhabitant.

To forsake Yahweh your God at the time he led you in the way.

Or what is it to you to journey to Ashur to party with river waters?

19 Your hurt will warn you and your returning will correct you, so know and see that evil and bitter it is to forsake Yahweh your God.
And my dread is not against you, an oracle of my Lord Yahweh of hosts.

but over every haughty hillock and under every green tree, you saunter into harlotry.
3e 4B 23

23 B How do you say, I am not defiled. After the Baalim, I have not walked. See your way in the gorge. Know what have you done,
a hot young dromedary, fleet, embroiled in her ways.

they, their kings, their nobility, their priests, and their prophets.

31 ~ O generation, you, you have seen the word of Yahweh. Am I the wilderness to Israel? a land of gloom?
Why do my people say, We are restless. we no longer come to you.

32 Does a maiden forget her trappings, a daughter-in-law her ribbons?
But my people have forgotten me, days without count.

33 Why do you practice well your way to seek love?
Therefore you teach even the evil women your ways.

Note me well judging you over your pronouncement, I have not sinned.
3d 4B 14

36 Why do you gad about so much to make a pretense of your way?
Even from Egypt you will be ashamed, as you were ashamed from Ashur.
3e 4C 11
15

For Yahweh has refused your confidences and you will not thrive in them.
