There are some exotic and unexpected glosses here to pick up on repeating sounds in the Hebrew. It's too big a chapter to put in much commentary on the music or the recurrence (which is internally substantial.) [Just noticed that 2 Chronicles 6 translated itself as I was doing this. The double review will probably result in a change or two here too.]

I remember being impressed by Solomon's prayer in this chapter some time in the past 20 years or whenever I last read it. But it appears to me now that it was not spoken in Elizabethan English. It is far more hesitant and choppy than consistently grammatical. It is a prayer moving from supplication to negative imprecation, and covering all the bases. There seems also to be a warning. The brass altar is too tiny. I wonder if Solomon oversteps, humanly speaking. He will come in for criticism as well as adulation eventually.

רַ֣ק אַתָּ֔ה לֹ֥א תִבְנֶ֖ה הַבָּ֑יִת כִּ֤י אִם־בִּנְךָ֙ הַיֹּצֵ֣א מֵחֲלָצֶ֔יךָ הֽוּא־יִבְנֶ֥ה הַבַּ֖יִת לִשְׁמִֽי	19	B	But you, you will not build the house. In contrast, your son, the one coming forth from your genus, he, he will build the house for my name.	3e	4C	9 20

אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁמַ֗רְתָּ לְעַבְדְּךָ֙ דָּוִ֣ד אָבִ֔י אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־דִּבַּ֖רְתָּ ל֑וֹ וַתְּדַבֵּ֥ר בְּפִ֛יךָ וּבְיָדְךָ֥ מִלֵּ֖אתָ כַּיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה	24		who kept for your servant, David, my father what you spoke to him, and you speak with your mouth, and with your hand you fulfill as on this day.	3d	4B	20 16

וְעַתָּ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל יֵאָ֤מֶן נָא֙ דְּבָ֣רְךָ֔ אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבַּ֔רְתָּ לְעַבְדְּךָ֖ דָּוִ֥ד אָבִֽי	26		And now, O God of Israel, let please your words be verified that you spoke for your servant David my father.	3e	4C	9 20

וּפָנִ֜יתָ אֶל־תְּפִלַּ֧ת עַבְדְּךָ֛ וְאֶל־תְּחִנָּת֖וֹ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֑י לִשְׁמֹ֤עַ אֶל־הָֽרִנָּה֙ וְאֶל־הַתְּפִלָּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֧ר עַבְדְּךָ֛ מִתְפַּלֵּ֥ל לְפָנֶ֖יךָ הַיּֽוֹם	28		And face the prayer of your servant and his supplication, Yahweh, my God, to hear the joyful cry and the prayer that your servant prays to your face today,	3c	4C	22 26
לִהְיוֹת֩ עֵינֶ֨ךָ פְתֻח֜וֹת אֶל־הַבַּ֤יִת הַזֶּה֙ לַ֣יְלָה וָי֔וֹם אֶל־הַ֨מָּק֔וֹם אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָמַ֔רְתָּ יִהְיֶ֥ה שְׁמִ֖י שָׁ֑ם לִשְׁמֹ֙עַ֙ אֶל־הַתְּפִלָּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִתְפַּלֵּ֣ל עַבְדְּךָ֔ אֶל־הַמָּק֖וֹם הַזֶּֽה	29		to let your eye be open to this house night and day, to the place where you said, My name will be there, to hear the prayer that your servant will pray to this place.	3e	4C	32 21

וַֽיַּעְמֹ֕ד וַיְבָ֕רֶךְ אֵ֖ת כָּל־קְהַ֣ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל ק֥וֹל גָּד֖וֹל לֵאמֹֽר	55		And he stood and he blessed all the congregation of Israel. A great voice, saying,	3e	4B	13 5

יְהִ֨י יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ עִמָּ֔נוּ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר הָיָ֖ה עִם־אֲבֹתֵ֑ינוּ אַל־יַעַזְבֵ֖נוּ וְאַֽל־יִטְּשֵֽׁנוּ	57		Let Yahweh our God be with us as he was with our ancestors. Let him not forsake us and let him not abandon us,	3e	4C	21 10
לְהַטּ֥וֹת לְבָבֵ֖נוּ אֵלָ֑יו לָלֶ֣כֶת בְּכָל־דְּרָכָ֗יו וְלִשְׁמֹ֨ר מִצְוֺתָ֤יו וְחֻקָּיו֙ וּמִשְׁפָּטָ֔יו אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּ֖ה אֶת־אֲבֹתֵֽינוּ	58		to bend our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments which he commanded our ancestors.	3e	4C	9 30

לְמַ֗עַן דַּ֚עַת כָּל־עַמֵּ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ כִּ֥י יְהוָ֖ה ה֣וּא הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים אֵ֖ין עֽוֹד	60		So that all the peoples of the earth may know that Yahweh, he is the God. There is nothing else.	3e	4C	19 2
וְהָיָ֤ה לְבַבְכֶם֙ שָׁלֵ֔ם עִ֖ם יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ לָלֶ֧כֶת בְּחֻקָּ֛יו וְלִשְׁמֹ֥ר מִצְוֺתָ֖יו כַּיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה	61		And let your heart be at peace with Yahweh our God, to walk in his statutes and to keep his commandments as on this day.	3c	4C	15 16
וְֽהַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עִמּ֑וֹ זֹבְחִ֥ים זֶ֖בַח לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה	62		Then the king and all Israel with him, offered an offering in the presence of Yahweh.	3e	4A	11 8

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה בָֽעֵת־הַהִ֣יא ׀ אֶת־הֶחָ֡ג וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל עִמּוֹ֩ קָהָ֨ל גָּד֜וֹל מִלְּב֥וֹא חֲמָ֣ת ׀ עַד־נַ֣חַל מִצְרַ֗יִם לִפְנֵי֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֖ים וְשִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֑ים אַרְבָּעָ֥ה עָשָׂ֖ר יֽוֹם	65		And Solomon made at that time festivities, and all Israel with him, a great congregation from the entrance of Hamath to the wadi of Egypt in the presence of Yahweh our God seven days and seven days, a fourteen day span.	3e	4B	50 6
בַּיּ֤וֹם הַשְּׁמִינִי֙ שִׁלַּ֣ח אֶת־הָעָ֔ם וַֽיְבָרֲכ֖וּ אֶת־הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיֵּלְכ֣וּ לְאָהֳלֵיהֶ֗ם שְׂמֵחִים֙ וְט֣וֹבֵי לֵ֔ב עַ֣ל כָּל־הַטּוֹבָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשָׂ֤ה יְהוָה֙ לְדָוִ֣ד עַבְדּ֔וֹ וּלְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עַמּֽוֹ	66	C	On the eighth day he dismissed the people and they blessed the king. Because of this chapter, I noted that I had to change a hapax in the Psalms. In psalm 114:1,

בְּצֵ֣את יִ֭שְׂרָאֵל מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם

בֵּ֥ית יַ֝עֲקֹ֗ב מֵעַ֥ם לֹעֵֽז

I had used the adjective foreign. It is now exotic.

When Israel came out from Egypt,
the house of Jacob from an exotic people,

Foreign and related words I used for נכר. So I cannot use it for a different Hebrew stem. I had missed this error for at least a year. Tch, tch, tch. And error it is by my rules. Egypt should never be put in a negative frame today - and in these days of post-God creeping xenophobia, foreign is in a bad space. In contrast the other, even the place we came from, is immensely attractive and exotic. But exotic will appear only once in Bob's Bible as לעז appears only once in the Hebrew Bible.
