Ezra 3

Gradually knocking of at least 1 chapter from books I haven't yet started. It's easy to forget that when the text says month, it also means new moon. Only here and in Nehemiah 7:72 do I see נגה preceding חדשׁ.

Ezra 3
1 And at the touch of the seventh new moon, and the children of Israel were in the cities,
the people gathered as one person at Jerusalem.
2 And Jeshua, child of Jotsadaq, arose and his kin, the priests, and Zerubbabel, child of Shealtiel, and his kin, and they built the altar of the God of Israel,
to offer up on it burnt offerings as it is written in the instruction of Moses the man of God.
3 And they prepared the altar on its bases because of the horror over them from the people of the lands.
And they offered up on it burnt offerings to Yahweh, burnt offerings in the morning and in the evening.
4 And they did the festive sacrifice of tabernacles as it is written,
and the burnt offering day by day by count according to the judgment of the matter day by day.
5 And afterward burnt offering continually, both of the new moons, and of all the appointed times of Yahweh, that are holy,
and for all that willingly offered a freewill offering to Yahweh.
6 From the first day of the seventh month, they commenced to offer up burnt offerings to Yahweh,
but the temple of Yahweh had no foundation.
7 And they gave silver to the masons and the carpenters,
and food and beverage and oil, to those of Sidon and of Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon by sea to Joppa, according to their license from Cyrus king of Persia.
8 And in the second year of their coming to the house of God, to Jerusalem in the second month,
commenced Zerubbabel, child of Shealtiel, Jeshua, child of Jotsadaq, and the residue of their kin, the priests, and the Levites, and all that had come from the captivity of Jerusalem. And they designated Levites from twenty years and upward to lead on the lines of work for the house of Yahweh.
9 And stood Jeshua, his children, and his kin, Qadmiel, and his children, the children of Judah, as one,
to lead on the deeds of the lines of work in the house of God, the children of Henadad, their children, and their kin, the Levites.
10 And the builders laid the foundation of the temple of Yahweh,
and they had the priests stand in their clothing with the trumpets and the Levites, the children of Asaph with cymbals, to praise Yahweh by the hand of David, king of Israel.
11 And they responded in praising and thanksgiving to Yahweh, for it is good, for his loving-kindness is forever over Israel.
And all the people raised a shout of great jubilation in praise to Yahweh, over the foundation of the house of Yahweh.
12 But many among the priests and the Levites, and those preeminent of the fathers, elders who had seen the first house when the foundation of this house was laid in their sight, wept with a great voice,
and many with jubilation, with gladness, lifted high their voice.
13 And none of the people could distinguish, over the voice of jubilation, the gladness, the voice of the weeping of the people,
for the people raised a shout of great jubilation, and the voice was heard afar off.
