1 Chronicles - lists

I must be mad to be doing this!

There are a myriad of names in some few chapters of the Bible. Think of a name you know. What memory traces does it raise in you? That's the opening impression I have of the Chronicler.

I have no axe to grind when it comes to transliterating names. But I wrote a little algorithm to make the mechanism a bit easier. It gives some unfamiliar results but most of these occur only a few times.

This passage doesn't get read out loud much and for singing (which is a major reason behind this translation) an English libretto will more closely follow the Hebrew if I use a somewhat consistent transliteration (but it is variable - such is the bias of existing usage - I can change it all later with a form-driven review of name usage if I need to. I will have to do this anyway when I review the roles of the named persons and decide if it is worth keeping them separate).
