Jeremiah 17

What a change my glosses make of some famous verses. They do make me think. The name of Jacob (heel) is used very creatively. I cannot turn it into deceit. It is more subtle than that.

בָּר֣וּךְ הַגֶּ֔בֶר אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִבְטַ֖ח בַּֽיהוָ֑ה וְהָיָ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה מִבְטַחֽוֹ	7		Blessed is the valiant who trusts in Yahweh, and Yahweh is its trust.	3e	4B	11 8
וְהָיָ֞ה כְּעֵ֣ץ ׀ שָׁת֣וּל עַל־מַ֗יִם וְעַל־יוּבַל֙ יְשַׁלַּ֣ח שָֽׁרָשָׁ֔יו וְלֹ֤א יִרְאֶה֙ כִּֽי־יָבֹ֣א חֹ֔ם וְהָיָ֥ה עָלֵ֖הוּ רַֽעֲנָ֑ן וּבִשְׁנַ֤ת בַּצֹּ֙רֶת֙ לֹ֣א יִדְאָ֔ג וְלֹ֥א יָמִ֖ישׁ מֵעֲשׂ֥וֹת פֶּֽרִי	8		Such a one will be like a tree transplanted by waters, and escorted, it sends out its roots and it does not see that warmth has come, and its leaf will be green, and in the year of drought it will not be anxious, and will not deviate from making fruit.	3e	4C	35 18
עָקֹ֥ב הַלֵּ֛ב מִכֹּ֖ל וְאָנֻ֣שׁ ה֑וּא מִ֖י יֵדָעֶֽנּוּ	9		Heeled is the heart above all, and incurable it is. Who will know it?	3d	4B	10 5
אֲנִ֧י יְהוָ֛ה חֹקֵ֥ר לֵ֖ב בֹּחֵ֣ן כְּלָי֑וֹת וְלָתֵ֤ת לְאִישׁ֙ כִּדְרָכָ֔יו כִּפְרִ֖י מַעֲלָלָֽיו	10		I am Yahweh, examining heart, testing vital centres, and I will give to each according to its ways, according to the fruit of its practices.	3c	4C	12 14
קֹרֵ֤א דָגַר֙ וְלֹ֣א יָלָ֔ד עֹ֥שֶׂה עֹ֖שֶׁר וְלֹ֣א בְמִשְׁפָּ֑ט בַּחֲצִ֤י יָמָיו֙ יַעַזְבֶ֔נּוּ וּבְאַחֲרִית֖וֹ יִהְיֶ֥ה נָבָֽל	11		A partridge foments and nothing is born. One who does riches and not with judgment, in the middle of its days, it will forsake it, and in its aftermath will be senseless.	3e	4C	17 18
כִּסֵּ֣א כָב֔וֹד מָר֖וֹם מֵֽרִאשׁ֑וֹן מְק֖וֹם מִקְדָּשֵֽׁנוּ	12		The throne of glory from on high, from the beginning, is the place of our sanctuary.	3e	4B	9 6
מִקְוֵ֤ה יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ יְהוָ֔ה כָּל־עֹזְבֶ֖יךָ יֵבֹ֑שׁוּ וְסוּרַי֙ בָּאָ֣רֶץ יִכָּתֵ֔בוּ כִּ֥י עָזְב֛וּ מְק֥וֹר מַֽיִם־חַיִּ֖ים אֶת־יְהוָֽה	13		O expectation of Israel, Yahweh, all forsaking you will be ashamed. Those that are turned aside from me, in the land will be written, because they have forsaken the fountain of living waters, Yahweh.	3d	4C	14 21
רְפָאֵ֤נִי יְהוָה֙ וְאֵ֣רָפֵ֔א הוֹשִׁיעֵ֖נִי וְאִוָּשֵׁ֑עָה כִּ֥י תְהִלָּתִ֖י אָֽתָּה	14		Heal me Yahweh, and I will be healed, save me and I will be saved, because my praise, you are.	3e	4C	19 7
הִנֵּה־הֵ֕מָּה אֹמְרִ֖ים אֵלָ֑י אַיֵּ֥ה דְבַר־יְהוָ֖ה יָ֥בוֹא נָֽא	15		Behold they say to me, Where is the word of Yahweh. Let it come if you will.	3e	4A	8 9
וַאֲנִ֞י לֹא־אַ֣צְתִּי ׀ מֵרֹעֶ֣ה אַחֲרֶ֗יךָ וְי֥וֹם אָנ֛וּשׁ לֹ֥א הִתְאַוֵּ֖יתִי אַתָּ֣ה יָדָ֑עְתָּ מוֹצָ֣א שְׂפָתַ֔י נֹ֥כַח פָּנֶ֖יךָ הָיָֽה	16		And myself, I did not importune after you to do evil, and an incurable day I have not desired. אַל־תִּֽהְיֵה־לִ֖י לִמְחִתָּ֑ה מַֽחֲסִי־אַ֖תָּה בְּי֥וֹם רָעָֽה	17		Do not be to my disarray. My refuge you are, in a day of evil.	3e	4A	7 8
יֵבֹ֤שׁוּ רֹדְפַי֙ וְאַל־אֵבֹ֣שָׁה אָ֔נִי יֵחַ֣תּוּ הֵ֔מָּה וְאַל־אֵחַ֖תָּה אָ֑נִי הָבִ֤יא עֲלֵיהֶם֙ י֣וֹם רָעָ֔ה וּמִשְׁנֶ֥ה שִׁבָּר֖וֹן שָׁבְרֵֽם	18		Let my persecutors be ashamed and let not me be ashamed. Let them be dismayed but let not me be dismayed. Bring upon them the day of evil, and from twofold shattering shatter them.	3e	4C	24 16
כֹּה־אָמַ֨ר יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗י הָלֹ֤ךְ וְעָֽמַדְתָּ֙ בְּשַׁ֣עַר בְּנֵֽי־הָעָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָבֹ֤אוּ בוֹ֙ מַלְכֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה וַאֲשֶׁ֖ר יֵ֣צְאוּ ב֑וֹ וּבְכֹ֖ל שַׁעֲרֵ֥י יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם	19		Thus says Yahweh to me, Go and stand at the gate of the children of the people, where the kings of Judah will come in and where they go forth, and in all the gates of Jerusalem.	3e	4C	35 9
וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲ֠לֵיהֶם שִׁמְע֨וּ דְבַר־יְהוָ֜ה מַלְכֵ֤י יְהוּדָה֙ וְכָל־יְהוּדָ֔ה וְכֹ֖ל יֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם הַבָּאִ֖ים בַּשְּׁעָרִ֥ים הָאֵֽלֶּה	20		And say to them, Hear the word of Yahweh, kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that come into these gates.	3e	4C	31 9
כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה הִשָּׁמְר֖וּ בְּנַפְשֽׁוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם וְאַל־תִּשְׂא֤וּ מַשָּׂא֙ בְּי֣וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֔ת וַהֲבֵאתֶ֖ם בְּשַׁעֲרֵ֥י יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם	21	C	Thus says Yahweh, Watch in your integrity, and do not bear a load on the day of the Sabbath, nor have it brought into the gates of Jerusalem.	3e	4C	13 23
וְלֹא־תוֹצִ֨יאוּ מַשָּׂ֤א מִבָּֽתֵּיכֶם֙ בְּי֣וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֔ת וְכָל־מְלָאכָ֖ה לֹ֣א תַֽעֲשׂ֑וּ וְקִדַּשְׁתֶּם֙ אֶת־י֣וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֔ת כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוִּ֖יתִי אֶת־אֲבוֹתֵיכֶֽם	22		And do not bring forth a load from your house on the day of the Sabbath, and any line of work you will not do, and sanctify the day of the Sabbath, as I commanded your ancestors.	3e	4C	24 20
וְלֹ֣א שָֽׁמְע֔וּ וְלֹ֥א הִטּ֖וּ אֶת־אָזְנָ֑ם וַיַּקְשׁוּ֙ אֶת־עָרְפָּ֔ם לְבִלְתִּ֣י שְׁמ֔וֹעַ וּלְבִלְתִּ֖י קַ֥חַת מוּסָֽר	23		And they did not hear, and they did not bend their ear, but they hardened their scruffs, that they might not hear and not receive warning.	3e	4B	11 19
וְ֠הָיָה אִם־שָׁמֹ֨עַ תִּשְׁמְע֤וּן אֵלַי֙ נְאֻם־יְהוָ֔ה לְבִלְתִּ֣י ׀ הָבִ֣יא מַשָּׂ֗א בְּשַׁעֲרֵ֛י הָעִ֥יר הַזֹּ֖את בְּי֣וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֑ת וּלְקַדֵּשׁ֙ אֶת־י֣וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֔ת לְבִלְתִּ֥י עֲשֽׂוֹת־בּ֖וֹ כָּל־מְלָאכָֽה	24	~	And it will be that if to hear you hear me, an oracle of Yahweh, so as not to bring a load into the gates of this city in the day the Sabbath, and to sanctify the day of the Sabbath so as not to do in it any trade,	3d	4C	36 18
וּבָ֣אוּ בְשַׁעֲרֵ֣י הָעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֡את מְלָכִ֣ים ׀ וְשָׂרִ֡ים יֹשְׁבִים֩ עַל־כִּסֵּ֨א דָוִ֜ד רֹכְבִ֣ים ׀ בָּרֶ֣כֶב וּבַסּוּסִ֗ים הֵ֚מָּה וְשָׂ֣רֵיהֶ֔ם אִ֥ישׁ יְהוּדָ֖ה וְיֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְיָשְׁבָ֥ה הָֽעִיר־הַזֹּ֖את לְעוֹלָֽם	25		Then into the gates of this city sovereigns and nobility will enter, sitting on the throne of David, riding in the chariot and on horses, they and their chiefs, everyone of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and this city will be inhabited for ever.	3e	4C	50 10
וּבָ֣אוּ מֵעָרֵֽי־יְ֠הוּדָה וּמִסְּבִיב֨וֹת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם וּמֵאֶ֣רֶץ בִּנְיָמִ֗ן וּמִן־הַשְּׁפֵלָ֤ה וּמִן־הָהָר֙ וּמִן־הַנֶּ֔גֶב מְבִאִ֛ים עוֹלָ֥ה וְזֶ֖בַח וּמִנְחָ֣ה וּלְבוֹנָ֑ה וּמְבִאֵ֥י תוֹדָ֖ה בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה	26		And they will come from the cities of Judah, and from every side of Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the lowly places, and from the mountain, and from the south, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices and gift, and frankincense, and bringing thanksgiving into the house of Yahweh.	3d	4C	52 8
וְאִם־לֹ֨א תִשְׁמְע֜וּ אֵלַ֗י לְקַדֵּשׁ֙ אֶת־י֣וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֔ת וּלְבִלְתִּ֣י ׀ שְׂאֵ֣ת מַשָּׂ֗א וּבֹ֛א בְּשַׁעֲרֵ֥י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם בְּי֣וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֑ת וְהִצַּ֧תִּי אֵ֣שׁ בִּשְׁעָרֶ֗יהָ וְאָֽכְלָ֛ה אַרְמְנ֥וֹת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם וְלֹ֥א תִכְבֶּֽה	27		And if you do not hear me to sanctify the day of the Sabbath, and not to lift up a load, or enter into the gates of Jerusalem, on the day of the Sabbath, then I will bring forth fire in her gates, and it will devour the citadels of Jerusalem and will not be quenched.	3c	4B	38 23
