Verse 7, the stem צחח is one that suggests a hot spot, but I expect it is used metaphorically. Sometimes I can feel defeated by one word for some time. There is much even in the Hebrew chapters of this book that is of a different style from other books. My prediction algorithm's guesses are more often 1 at a time here rather than more than one word in sequence.
The last verse has an anomaly about water. I added a connecting preposition (smile - you can do anything with a preposition). NIV constructs a plausible sentence about fetching water. KJV thinks it is about washing. JB corrects with others rather lamely in this case, to read hand instead of water.
If translators are going to correct the text, (whether they tell us or not) why would anyone think the text was the 'word of God'? What is it that people are looking for? or think they are looking at? and read so selectively, and usually just to confirm their own already prejudiced opinion?
|1||And it happened that as Sanballet and Tobiah and the Arabians and the Ammonites, and those of Ashdod heard that the length of the walls of Jerusalem had come up, that the breaches were starting to be mended, |
he was burning especially about them.
|2||And they colluded all of them together, to come to make war against Jerusalem, |
and to make it slow down.
|3||But we prayed to our God, |
and stood guard against them day and night in their faces.
|4||And Judah said, The power of the burden-bearer falters and the dust is excessive, |
that we ourselves are not able to build the wall.
|5||And our adversaries said, They will not know and they will not see until we are come to their midst and slay them, |
and put a stop to the lines of work.
|6||And it happened that as the Judeans who had settled next to them came, they said to us ten times, From all the places where you return to us.||3e||4C||15|
|7||So I installed, from the lower places behind the wall, in the hot spots, |
and I installed the people by family, with their swords, their lances, and their bows.
|8||And I saw and I arose and I said to the freeborn and the prefects and the remaining people, Do not fear from their presence. |
Remember the Lord, great and fearful, and fight for your kin, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your houses.
|9||And it happened that as our enemies heard that it was known to us, and God had thwarted their counsel. |
And we returned, all of us, to the wall, each to his line of work.
|10||And it happened from that day, half my lads would do the lines of work, and half were resolute with lances, shields, and bows, and chain mail, |
and the chiefs were behind all the house of Judah.
|11||The builders on the wall, and the lifters of burdens, carried on, |
with one hand doing the lines of work, and the other resolutely holding the weapon.
|12||And the builders, each his sword bound on his waist, and building, |
and the one who sounded the shophar was next to me.
|13||And I said to the freeborn and the prefects and the remaining people, The lines of work are excessive and broad, |
and we are separated on the wall, distant each from his kin.
|14||In the place that you hear the voice of the shophar, |
there rally to us. Our God will fight for us.
|15||So we did the lines of work, |
and half were resolute with lances, from the coming up of the dawn until the coming out of the stars.
|16||B||Even at that time, I said to the people, Let each with his lad lodge within Jerusalem, |
that they will be for us by night a guard, and by day for a line of work.
|17||So there was not for me, or my kin, or my lads, or the soldiers of the guard that followed me, there was not for us stripping our garments, |
each, his weapon in the water.
