Isaiah 47

Verse 10, ראה, to see, is very common (over 1200 occurrences), but ראני, sees me, occurs only once. There is another instance in my data of sees me. It is ראי in Genesis 16.13. So maybe Isaiah's tongue has local variations in pronunciation.

for not again will they proclaim you tender and delicate.

גַּלִּ֨י צַמָּתֵ֧ךְ חֶשְׂפִּי־שֹׁ֛בֶל גַּלִּי־שׁ֖וֹק עִבְרִ֥י נְהָרֽוֹת
2 Take millstones and grind flour.
Uncover your headscarf, strip stalk, uncover leg, pass through rivers.

תִּגָּל֙ עֶרְוָתֵ֔ךְ גַּ֥ם תֵּרָאֶ֖ה חֶרְפָּתֵ֑ךְ
נָקָ֣ם אֶקָּ֔ח וְלֹ֥א אֶפְגַּ֖ע אָדָֽם
3 Your nakedness will be uncovered. Even your reproach will be seen.
Vengeance I will receive, and I will not compel humanity.

4 Our redeemer, Yahweh of hosts is his name,

כִּ֣י לֹ֤א תוֹסִ֙יפִי֙ יִקְרְאוּ־לָ֔ךְ גְּבֶ֖רֶת מַמְלָכֽוֹת
5 Sit muted, and enter into darkness, daughter of the Chaldeans,
for not again will they proclaim you the valiant of kingdoms.

קָצַ֣פְתִּי עַל־עַמִּ֗י חִלַּ֙לְתִּי֙ נַחֲלָתִ֔י וָאֶתְּנֵ֖ם בְּיָדֵ֑ךְ
לֹא־שַׂ֤מְתְּ לָהֶם֙ רַחֲמִ֔ים עַל־זָקֵ֕ן הִכְבַּ֥דְתְּ עֻלֵּ֖ךְ מְאֹֽד
6 I was enraged over my people. I have profaned my own inheritance. And I gave them into your hand.
You did not define compassion for them. Upon the aged, you have made your shackle especially heavy.

וַתֹּ֣אמְרִ֔י לְעוֹלָ֖ם אֶהְיֶ֣ה גְבָ֑רֶת
עַ֣ד לֹא־שַׂ֥מְתְּ אֵ֙לֶּה֙ עַל־לִבֵּ֔ךְ לֹ֥א זָכַ֖רְתְּ אַחֲרִיתָֽהּ
7 And you said, Forever I will be valiant,
while you did not set these on your heart, nor have you remembered its consequences.

וְעַתָּ֞ה שִׁמְעִי־זֹ֤את עֲדִינָה֙ הַיּוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת לָבֶ֔טַח הָאֹֽמְרָה֙ בִּלְבָ֔בָהּ אֲנִ֖י וְאַפְסִ֣י ע֑וֹד
לֹ֤א אֵשֵׁב֙ אַלְמָנָ֔ה וְלֹ֥א אֵדַ֖ע שְׁכֽוֹל
8 And now hear this, O enthralled that inhabits with confidence, who says in her heart, I am, and my ends continue.
I will not sit widowed, nor will I know bereavement.

וְתָבֹאנָה֩ לָּ֨ךְ שְׁתֵּי־אֵ֥לֶּה רֶ֛גַע בְּי֥וֹם אֶחָ֖ד שְׁכ֣וֹל וְאַלְמֹ֑ן
כְּתֻמָּם֙ בָּ֣אוּ עָלַ֔יִךְ בְּרֹ֣ב כְּשָׁפַ֔יִךְ בְּעָצְמַ֥ת חֲבָרַ֖יִךְ מְאֹֽד
9 But these two will come to you in a moment, in one day, bereavement and widowhood.
As completeness they will come over you, for the abundance of your sorceries, for the sheer numbers of your excessive charms.

וַתִּבְטְחִ֣י בְרָעָתֵ֗ךְ אָמַרְתְּ֙ אֵ֣ין רֹאָ֔נִי חָכְמָתֵ֥ךְ וְדַעְתֵּ֖ךְ הִ֣יא שׁוֹבְבָ֑תֶךְ
וַתֹּאמְרִ֣י בְלִבֵּ֔ךְ אֲנִ֖י וְאַפְסִ֥י עֽוֹד
10 And you trusted in your evil. You said, None sees me. Your shrewdness and your knowledge, it has turned you.
And you said in your heart, I am and my ends continue.

וּבָ֧א עָלַ֣יִךְ רָעָ֗ה לֹ֤א תֵדְעִי֙ שַׁחְרָ֔הּ וְתִפֹּ֤ל עָלַ֙יִךְ֙ הֹוָ֔ה לֹ֥א תוּכְלִ֖י כַּפְּרָ֑הּ
וְתָבֹ֨א עָלַ֧יִךְ פִּתְאֹ֛ם שׁוֹאָ֖ה לֹ֥א תֵדָֽעִי
11 And evil will come over you. You will not know to seek it early. And calamity will fall on you. You will not be able to cover it.
And ruin will come over you suddenly, without your forecast.

עִמְדִי־נָ֤א בַחֲבָרַ֙יִךְ֙ וּבְרֹ֣ב כְּשָׁפַ֔יִךְ בַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר יָגַ֖עַתְּ מִנְּעוּרָ֑יִךְ
אוּלַ֛י תּוּכְלִ֥י הוֹעִ֖יל אוּלַ֥י תַּעֲרֽוֹצִי
12 Stand now in your charms, and in the abundance of your sorceries in which you have laboured from your youth.
Maybe you will be able to use. Maybe you will panic.

נִלְאֵ֖ית בְּרֹ֣ב עֲצָתָ֑יִךְ
יַעַמְדוּ־נָ֨א וְיוֹשִׁיעֻ֜ךְ הֹבְרֵ֣י שָׁמַ֗יִם הַֽחֹזִים֙ בַּכּ֣וֹכָבִ֔ים מֽוֹדִיעִם֙ לֶחֳדָשִׁ֔ים מֵאֲשֶׁ֥ר יָבֹ֖אוּ עָלָֽיִךְ
13 You are fatigued with the abundance of your counselors.
Stand please and let the analysts of heaven, the visionaries among the stars, the monthly forecasters, save you from what will come over you.

הִנֵּ֨ה הָי֤וּ כְקַשׁ֙ אֵ֣שׁ שְׂרָפָ֔תַם לֹֽא־יַצִּ֥ילוּ אֶת־נַפְשָׁ֖ם מִיַּ֣ד לֶֽהָבָ֑ה
אֵין־גַּחֶ֣לֶת לַחְמָ֔ם א֖וּר לָשֶׁ֥בֶת נֶגְדּֽוֹ
14 Behold they are as stubble. Fire will incinerate them. They will not deliver themselves from the hand of the flame.
It is no coal for bread, light to sit before it.

כֵּ֥ן הָיוּ־לָ֖ךְ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יָגָ֑עַתְּ
סֹחֲרַ֣יִךְ מִנְּעוּרַ֗יִךְ אִ֤ישׁ לְעֶבְרוֹ֙ תָּע֔וּ אֵ֖ין מוֹשִׁיעֵֽךְ
15 f Indeed they are for you what you have laboured for,
your vendors from your youth. Each to its passage, they will wander. None is your saviour.
