Judges 14

In this story I began to wonder if there are word forms that would distinguish friend from associate from shepherd, all of which have the same triliteral stem רעה. This will have to be subject to analysis - but I'm not sure what is possible yet. See the last verse. The last verse is also one that has an atnah right between subject and predicate. But the intent is to ponder on the character of Sampson. So to get the rest note on Sampson, I have had to make the English very stilted. Sort of like a tennis commentator who adds the name of the player long after he has described the action.

What is going on with Yahweh in this story?

Judges 14 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And Sampson went down to Timnah,
and saw a woman in Timnah from the daughters of the Philistines.

13
2 And he came up and told his father and his mother, and he said, A woman I have seen in Timnah from the daughters of the Philistines.
And now take her for me as wife.

10
3 And his father and his mother said to him, Is there no woman among the daughters of your kin and among all my people that you would go to take a woman from the fore-skinned Philistines?
And Sampson said to his father, Take her for me, for this is upright in my eyes.

18
4 And his father and his mother did not know that this was from Yahweh, for he sought an opportunity from the Philistines,
and at that time, the Philistines were proverbial in Israel.

14
5 And Sampson went down, and his father and his mother, to Timnah.
And they came to the vineyards of Timnah, and behold, a lion cub roared when encountering him.

22
6 And the spirit of Yahweh thrived on him, and he rived him as he would have riven a male kid, and there was nothing whatever in his hand,
but he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.

15
7 And he went down and he spoke to the woman.
And she was upright in the eyes of Sampson.
3e 4B 9
8
8 And he returned regularly to take her, and he turned aside to see the fallen lion.
And behold, a colony of bees was in the body of the lion, and honey.
3c 4C 21
16
9 And he ruled it into his palms, and he went meandering and eating. And he went to his father and his mother, and he gave to them, and they ate.
But he did not tell them that from the body of the lion, he had ruled the honey.
3d 4C 34
16
10 And his father went down to the woman.
And Sampson made a party there, for so youths in their prime will do.
3d 4C 10
17
11 And it was as they saw him,
that they took thirty associates, and they were with him.
3e 4B 7
14
12 And Sampson said to them, I have a riddle now for you, a riddle.
If you will make it clear to me in the seven days of the party, and you find out, then I will give you thirty linen sheets, and thirty renewed garments.
3e 4C 15
40
13 And if you are not able to tell me, then you will yourselves give to me thirty linen sheets and thirty renewed garments.
And they said to him, Riddle your riddle, and we will hear it.
3e 4B 30
14
14 And he said to them, From the eater emerged food, and from the strong emerged sweetness.
But not they were able to tell the riddle, three days.
3d 4B 21
15
15 And it was on the seventh day, and they said to the wife of Sampson, Cajole your man, and let him make clear for us the riddle lest we incinerate you and the house of your father in fire.
Have you called us to dispossess us? Is it not?
3d 4C 41
11
16 And the wife of Sampson wept over him, and she said, Certainly you hate me, and you do not love me. Have you riddled a riddle for the children of my people, and to me you have not told it?
And he said to her, Behold, my father and my mother I did not tell. To you will I tell?
3c 4B 38
20
17 And she wept over him the seven days that was their party.
And it was on the seventh day that he told her, for she impeded him, and he told the riddle for the children of her people.
3e 4C 19
26
18 And the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the hot sun had set, What is sweeter than honey and what is stronger than a lion?
And he said to them, if you had not ploughed with my calf, you would not have found my riddle.
3e 4B 32
21
19 And the spirit of Yahweh thrived on him, and he went down to Ashkelon and struck of them thirty men. And he took their gear, and he gave the renewals to those who told the riddle.
And his anger burned, and he went up to the house of his father.
3e 4B 45
12
20 And she became, the wife of Sampson,
his associate's, who was his friend.
