Isaiah 30

I wrote the prior post on verse 1 before I had fully read this chapter. For a long time now I have stayed away from my New Testament roots. This perplexing concatenation of words needs a lot a teasing out.

Again JB writes in their notes that the Hebrew is unintelligible. Even the prophet implies that his words are not smooth. I am prepared to believe these scholars. So be prepared for something unintelligible. But imagine the juxtaposition of music with judgment, of rest with fire. Imagine deep and broad fire, prepared in advance as a seduction on behalf of the king, for his bride, the world. Yeah folks, its metaphor. Not without cost.

Hearing and seeing are a theme in Isaiah (v 20). Verse 26, again the euphemisms for moon and sun.

The song in the night (verse 29) reflects Psalm 42, a phrase from which my book was titled to reflect the music in the text  but it could be read as a whole offering in verse 29 (כליל) rather than in the night.

Ponder the contradictions, the juxtapositions of music and fire. Let us step through the fire and govern well, and insist that our governments do not build and prepare prisons and walls, but rather provide space for the exercise of the compassion of the people. If the Christians cannot figure this out, they should stay in the fire. Let them be part of the timber that was prepared for their king.

Isaiah 30 Fn Min Max Syll
1 B Ah rebellious children, an oracle of Yahweh, to do counsel, but not from me, to spill out a libation, but not my spirit,
so as to add sin on sin.
3d 4C 29
2 They are going to descend to Egypt, but my mandate they have not asked,
to strengthen themselves with the strength of Pharaoh, and to take refuge in the shade of Egypt.
3e 4B 14
3 And it will be that for you, the strength of Pharaoh is to your shame,
and the refuge in the shade of Egypt, humiliation.
3d 4A 12
4 For his nobles were in Zoan,
and his messengers were joined in Xanas.
3e 4A 7
5 B All dried up over a people of no use to them, nor help,
and not to be of use, but for shame and also for a reproach.
3e 4C 10

6 A load about the beasts of the south.
In the land of trouble and distress, (great cat and codger cat are from them, asp and flying seraph) they will lift up on the shoulder of foals their wealth, and on the humps of camels their treasuries, to a people of no use.
3c 4C 7
7 And Egypt? Futile and empty their help.
Therefore I have proclaimed this. They are bold to cease.
3e 4B 10
8 Now come, write upon a tablet with them, and in a record engrave it,
and it will be for the day to follow, for ever, for evermore.
3d 4B 16
9 B For a people of provocation it is, children dissimulating,
children who will not consent to hear the instruction of Yahweh,
3e 4C 10
10 Who said to the seer, You will not see, and to the visionary, You will not envision for us what is straightforward.
Speak for us smooth things. Envision delusions.
3e 4C 21
11 C Turn aside from the way. Bend from the path.
Make the Holy One of Israel cease from before us.
3e 4C 10
12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel, Because you refuse in this matter,
and trust in oppression and drift, and you lean upon it,
3e 4C 20
13 Therefore this iniquity will be for you as a breach pending a fall, simmering upon the wall, set on high,
that suddenly, suddenly comes its breaking.
3e 4C 24

14 ~ And he will break it as the breaking of a potter's jar beaten without pity,
and from its beating there will be not found a potsherd to take hold of fire from a burning mass, or to strip water from a marsh.
3c 4C 15
15 B For thus says my Lord Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel, In returning and rest you will be saved. In quietness and trust will be your valour.
But you would not consent.
3e 4C 36
16 And you said, No, for by horse we will withdraw. So you will withdraw.
And, On the fleet we will ride. So the fleet will pursue you.
3d 4B 14
17 B One thousand, before the rebuke of one. Before the rebuke of five, you will withdraw,
till even you will be left as a mast on the top of the hill, and as a standard by a hillock.
3d 4B 22
18 And Yahweh therefore will tarry, to be gracious to you, and therefore he will be exalted, to be compassionate with you.
For Yahweh is the God of judgment. Happy are all who tarry for him.
3e 4C 21
19 For people in Zion will settle, in Jerusalem.
To weep, you will not weep. He will be gracious to you at the voice of your appeal. When he hears it, he will answer you.
3d 4C 11
20 Though my Lord give to you the bread of anguish and the water of restriction,
yet your instructor will not cover himself with his wings any more, and it will be that your eyes will see your instructor.
3c 4B 15
21 And your ears will hear a word behind you, saying,
This is the way. Walk in it when you turn right or when you turn left.
3e 4C 16
22 And you will defile the overlay of your graven images of silver, and the ephod of your molten images of gold.
You will consecrate them like an infirmity. Go forth, you will say to it.
3e 4B 25
23 And he will grant the rain of your seed that you will sow in the ground, and bread, the income of the ground, and it will be fat and stout.
your livestock will pasture in that day in a broad meadow.
3d 4B 35
24 And the droves and the foals, the servants of the ground, they will eat leavened fodder,
that has been winnowed with fragrance and with pitchfork.
3e 4B 23
25 And there will be over every haughty hill and over every hillock lifted up, productive streams of water,
in the day of abundant slaying when towers fall.
3e 4B 23
26 And the light of the white will become as the light of the warmth, and the light of the warmth will be seven times the light of seven days,
in the day that Yahweh binds the shattering of his people, and the wound of his defeat, heals.
3e 4C 29
27 Behold the name of Yahweh comes from afar, kindled with his anger, glorious in its bearing.
His lips are full of indignation, and his tongue is as fire devouring.
3e 4C 19
28 And his spirit like a torrent overflowing, will reach half way up a neck, a wave offering of nations elevated in vain,
and a bridle from wandering, on the cheeks of the peoples.
3e 4C 25
29 The song will be yours as in the night of a holy festive sacrifice,
and gladness of heart, as one goes with a flute to enter to the hill of Yahweh, to the rock of Israel.
3e 4B 12
30 And Yahweh will make the splendour of his voice heard and the repose of his arm he will show, in the outrage of the anger, and the flame of a consuming fire,
smashing, and inundation, and hailstone.
3e 4C 29
31 For from the voice of Yahweh Ashur will be dismayed.
He will strike with the sceptre.
3e 4B 8
32 And anyone passing through the rod of the foundation to whom Yahweh has given rest, will be with timbrels and harps.
And with battles of a wave offering, he fights with them.
3e 4C 28
33 For seduction was previously arranged, even this for the king, prepared, deep, broad,
from a generation of fire and much timber. The breath of Yahweh, like a torrent of pitch, kindles it.
