Ezekiel 41

This section of Ezekiel continues to be mystifying. It is clear that other translations are attempting to form a blueprint of sorts from it, but the idiom for description is less than revealing (to me at least) across the centuries. At the moment though I am pondering first the relationship between the visionary and the vision, and the One who inhabits the temple.

There are in this chapter a few parallels with 1 Kings 6. It will follow tomorrow. (1 Kings 6:4 is very helpful. The NIV clerestory is suggestive. I have 12 such windows in my living room with its 20 foot ceiling.)

Are those windows plugged? or 'narrow'. My use of narrow for a hapax in Job (זרב in 6:17) - has been revisited. The stem אטם definitely signifies a plugging of the ear. But that is its metaphorical usage, which I happened to come across first.

People say that the atnah is needed for long verses. But it seems that some quite long verses have no atnah. (Marked in red below). When there is only one syllable count in a verse within my tables, it is because there is no atnah (or in the poetry books neither atnah nor ole-veyored.)

Ezekiel 41 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And he brought me to the temple.
And he measured the porticoes, six cubits broad from its edge by six cubits broad from its edge, the breadth of the tent.
3c 4B 8
27
2 And the breadth of the door, ten cubits, and the shoulder of the door, five cubits from its edge, five cubits from its edge,
and he measured its length, forty cubits, and breadth, twenty cubits.
3e 4C 29
17
3 And he went toward the presence, and he measured the portico of the door, two cubits,
and its door, six cubits, and the breadth of the door, seven cubits.
3e 4B 16
17
4 And he measured its length, twenty cubits, and breadth, twenty cubits before the temple,
and he said to me, This is the Holy of Holies.
3d 4B 23
12
5 And he measured the sidewall of the house, six cubits,
and the breadth of the rib, four cubits round and round about the house on every side.
3c 4B 10
19
6 And the ribs, rib to rib, were thirty three pulses, and those coming in the sidewall that were for the house for the ribs, round and round about, to be holders,
but they were not holders in the sidewall of the house.
3c 4B 39
12
7 And it was spacious and circling, degree by degree, for the ribs that surrounded the house, degree by degree round and round about the house, so spacious the house was to the ascendant,
and so the lower part came up on the upper part to the centre.
3c 4C 45
18
8 And I saw the house aloft, round and round about.
The foundations of the ribs, the full calamus, six cubits, were held in reserve.
3c 4C 13
16
9 B The breadth of the sidewall that was for the rib on the outside was five cubits,
and what was left of the house of ribs that was inside.
3c 4B 15
14
10 And between the chambers, the breadth, twenty cubits round about the house, on every side round about. 3d 4B 20
11 And a door for the rib to what was left, one door the way of the north, and one door to the southern region,
and the breadth of the place that was left, five cubits round and round about.
3e 4C 26
16
12 And the building that was before the unconnected quarter of the way of the sea was a breadth of seventy cubits, and the sidewall of the building five cubits broad round and round about,
and the length, ninety cubits.
3c 4C 39
7
13 And he measured the house length, a hundred cubits,
and the unconnected place, and the building and its sidewalls, length, a hundred cubits.
3e 4C 13
19
14 And the breadth before the house and toward the unconnected place eastward, a hundred cubits. 3c 3g 19
15 And he measured the length of the building facing the unconnected place that was behind it and its galleries, from its edge by its edge, a hundred cubits:
And the temple, the facings, and the porches of the court,
3c 4B 35
14
16 The thresholds, and the narrow windows, and the galleries round about for their three in front of the threshold, the ceiling of wood round and round about,
and the land up to the windows and the windows covered,
3c 4C 33
17
17 On from above the door and till the house facings, and to the outside, and to all the sidewall round and round about, on the facings and on the outside by measure. 3c 4B 35
18 And made with cherubim and palm trees,
and a palm tree between cherub to cherub, and two faces per cherub.
3e 4B 10
15
19 So the face of a human was to the palm tree from its edge, and the face of a young lion to the palm tree from its edge.
It was made through all the house round and round about.
3e 4C 22
11
20 From the land to above the door, the cherubim and the palm trees were made,
and the sidewall of the temple.
3e 4B 21
5
21 The temple posts were square,
and before the sanctuary, the appearance of like appearance.
3e 4B 9
11
22 The altar of wood was three cubits in stature, and its length two cubits, and its cut outs for it, and its length, and its sidewalls of wood.
And he spoke to me, This is the table that is before Yahweh.
3e 4C 33
15
23 And two gateways, for the temple and for the sanctuary. 3c 3g 12
24 And two gateways per gateway,
two gateways turning round, two gateways of one, and two gateways for the other.
3e 4C 8
24
25 And made on them, on the gateways of the temple, cherubim and palm trees, as were made for the sidewalls,
and thick wood before the porch outside.
3d 4C 29
12
26 And narrow windows and palm trees from its edge by its edge to the shoulders of the porch,
and the ribs of the house and thicknesses.
3e 4C 22

Verse 15 begins in bar 144 below. Are there clues in the phrasing of the music that would help with the verbless list from verses 15-17?
