2 Samuel 5

Verse 8 is an incomplete 'challenge' to David's soldiers. Bibles tend to gloss a prohibition related to an undefined house. I have let the muttering stand as related to the inside as is referenced in verse 9.

There is of course an insult to David, typical of the braggadocio of soldiers, but David equally considers them lame and blind even if they were accusing him of being the same. Nonetheless this is not prescriptive for our behaviour in any aspect, though it may well describe some of our feelings.

Verse 12 should be prescriptive for a leader, but verse 13 seems to indicate that full maturity is scarcely David's.

Verse 18 - abandoned themselves (נטשׁ), in 1 Chronicles 14 (to come) it is pillaged (פשׁט).

Verse 21, pace KJV, the idols were not burned they were lifted up (נשא) and carried away! The KJV translators were correcting the text based on the verb in 1 Chronicles 14 שרף.

and they said, saying, Here we are, your bone and your flesh, we are.

2 Even recently even the day before yesterday when Saul was king over us, you yourself were the one who brought forth and brought in Israel.
And Yahweh said to you, You yourself will shepherd my people Israel, and you will be as herald over Israel.
