Genesis 28 | Fn | Min | Max | Syll
וַיִּקְרָ֥א יִצְחָ֛ק אֶֽל־יַעֲקֹ֖ב וַיְבָ֣רֶךְ אֹת֑וֹ וַיְצַוֵּ֙הוּ֙ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֔וֹ לֹֽא־תִקַּ֥ח אִשָּׁ֖ה מִבְּנ֥וֹת כְּנָֽעַן | 1 | And Yitschaq called to Jacob and blessed him, and commanded him, saying to him, You will not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan. | 3d | 4B | 14 17
ק֥וּם לֵךְ֙ פַּדֶּ֣נָֽה אֲרָ֔ם בֵּ֥יתָה בְתוּאֵ֖ל אֲבִ֣י אִמֶּ֑ךָ וְקַח־לְךָ֤ מִשָּׁם֙ אִשָּׁ֔ה מִבְּנ֥וֹת לָבָ֖ן אֲחִ֥י אִמֶּֽךָ | 2 | f | Arise, walk to Padan Aram towards the house of Bethuel, the father of your mother, then take for yourself from there a wife from the daughters of Laban, the brother of your mother. | 3e | 4C | 17 17 |
וְאֵ֤ל שַׁדַּי֙ יְבָרֵ֣ךְ אֹֽתְךָ֔ וְיַפְרְךָ֖ וְיַרְבֶּ֑ךָ וְהָיִ֖יתָ לִקְהַ֥ל עַמִּֽים | 3 | The One, the Sufficient bless you, and make you fruitful and increase you, and may you be a congregation of peoples. | 3e | 4C | 17 8
וְיִֽתֶּן־לְךָ֙ אֶת־בִּרְכַּ֣ת אַבְרָהָ֔ם לְךָ֖ וּלְזַרְעֲךָ֣ אִתָּ֑ךְ לְרִשְׁתְּךָ֙ אֶת־אֶ֣רֶץ מְגֻרֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁר־נָתַ֥ן אֱלֹהִ֖ים לְאַבְרָהָֽם | 4 | And give to you even the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your seed with you, and may you possess the land where you are a guest that God gave to Abraham. | 3e | 4B | 19 22
וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יִצְחָק֙ אֶֽת־יַעֲקֹ֔ב וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ פַּדֶּ֣נָֽה אֲרָ֑ם אֶל־לָבָ֤ן בֶּן־בְּתוּאֵל֙ הָֽאֲרַמִּ֔י אֲחִ֣י רִבְקָ֔ה אֵ֥ם יַעֲקֹ֖ב וְעֵשָֽׂו | 5 | And Yitschaq sent Jacob and he went to Padan Aram, to Laban child of Bethuel the Aramaean, the brother of Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau. | 3e | 4C | 17 22
וַיַּ֣רְא עֵשָׂ֗ו כִּֽי־בֵרַ֣ךְ יִצְחָק֮ אֶֽת־יַעֲקֹב֒ וְשִׁלַּ֤ח אֹתוֹ֙ פַּדֶּ֣נָֽה אֲרָ֔ם לָקַֽחַת־ל֥וֹ מִשָּׁ֖ם אִשָּׁ֑ה בְּבָרֲכ֣וֹ אֹת֔וֹ וַיְצַ֤ו עָלָיו֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לֹֽא־תִקַּ֥ח אִשָּׁ֖ה מִבְּנ֥וֹת כְּנָֽעַן | 6 | And Esau saw that Yitschaq blessed Jacob and sent him to Padan Aram to receive for himself from there a wife. When blessing him, he commanded concerning him, saying, You will not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan. | 3e | 4C | 30 21
7 | And Jacob heard his father and his mother, and went to Padan Aram. | 3e | 4B | 13 8
וַיַּ֣רְא עֵשָׂ֔ו כִּ֥י רָע֖וֹת בְּנ֣וֹת כְּנָ֑עַן בְּעֵינֵ֖י יִצְחָ֥ק אָבִֽיו | 8 | And Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan were hurtful, in the eyes of Yitschaq his father. | 3e | 4B | 12 7
וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ עֵשָׂ֖ו אֶל־יִשְׁמָעֵ֑אל וַיִּקַּ֡ח אֶֽת־מָחֲלַ֣ת ׀ בַּת־יִשְׁמָעֵ֨אל בֶּן־אַבְרָהָ֜ם אֲח֧וֹת נְבָי֛וֹת עַל־נָשָׁ֖יו ל֥וֹ לְאִשָּֽׁה | 9 | So Esau went to Yishmaeil, and he took Mahalath the daughter of Yishmaeil child of Abraham, sister of Nevayot, over his women, to be his wife. | 3c | 4B | 10 28
וַיֵּצֵ֥א יַעֲקֹ֖ב מִבְּאֵ֣ר שָׁ֑בַע וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ חָרָֽנָה | 10 | And Jacob went forth from Beer-Sheva, and went to Xaran. | 3e | 4B | 10 6
וַיִּפְגַּ֨ע בַּמָּק֜וֹם וַיָּ֤לֶן שָׁם֙ כִּי־בָ֣א הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ וַיִּקַּח֙ מֵאַבְנֵ֣י הַמָּק֔וֹם וַיָּ֖שֶׂם מְרַֽאֲשֹׁתָ֑יו וַיִּשְׁכַּ֖ב בַּמָּק֥וֹם הַהֽוּא | 11 | And he came across a place and lodged there, for the sun had set, and he took from the stones of the place and he set up his pillows, and lay down in that place. | 3e | 4C | 31 8
וַֽיַּחֲלֹ֗ם וְהִנֵּ֤ה סֻלָּם֙ מֻצָּ֣ב אַ֔רְצָה וְרֹאשׁ֖וֹ מַגִּ֣יעַ הַשָּׁמָ֑יְמָה וְהִנֵּה֙ מַלְאֲכֵ֣י אֱלֹהִ֔ים עֹלִ֥ים וְיֹרְדִ֖ים בּֽוֹ | 12 | And he dreamed, and behold, a ladder stood firmly earthward, and its top touched towards the heavens, and behold, messengers of God ascended and descended on it. | 3e | 4C | 23 15
וְהִנֵּ֨ה יְהוָ֜ה נִצָּ֣ב עָלָיו֮ וַיֹּאמַר֒ אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֗ה אֱלֹהֵי֙ אַבְרָהָ֣ם אָבִ֔יךָ וֵאלֹהֵ֖י יִצְחָ֑ק הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֤ר אַתָּה֙ שֹׁכֵ֣ב עָלֶ֔יהָ לְךָ֥ אֶתְּנֶ֖נָּה וּלְזַרְעֶֽךָ | 13 | And behold, Yahweh took a stand above it, and he said, I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Yitschaq. The land that you have laid down on, to you I will give it and to your seed. | 3e | 4C | 30 21
וְהָיָ֤ה זַרְעֲךָ֙ כַּעֲפַ֣ר הָאָ֔רֶץ וּפָרַצְתָּ֛ יָ֥מָּה וָקֵ֖דְמָה וְצָפֹ֣נָה וָנֶ֑גְבָּה וְנִבְרֲכ֥וּ בְךָ֛ כָּל־מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת הָאֲדָמָ֖ה וּבְזַרְעֶֽךָ | 14 | And your seed will be like the dust of the earth, and you will break out seaward, and eastward, and northward, and southward, and all the families of humanity will be blessed in you, and in your seed. | 3d | 4C | 28 18
וְהִנֵּ֨ה אָנֹכִ֜י עִמָּ֗ךְ וּשְׁמַרְתִּ֙יךָ֙ בְּכֹ֣ל אֲשֶׁר־תֵּלֵ֔ךְ וַהֲשִׁ֣בֹתִ֔יךָ אֶל־הָאֲדָמָ֖ה הַזֹּ֑את כִּ֚י לֹ֣א אֶֽעֱזָבְךָ֔ עַ֚ד אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִם־עָשִׂ֔יתִי אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי לָֽךְ | 15 | And behold, I am with you and will keep you everywhere that you walk, and I will return you to the this ground, for I will not forsake you until I have done that which I have spoken about to you. | 3e | 4C | 31 20
וַיִּיקַ֣ץ יַעֲקֹב֮ מִשְּׁנָתוֹ֒ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר אָכֵן֙ יֵ֣שׁ יְהוָ֔ה בַּמָּק֖וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה וְאָנֹכִ֖י לֹ֥א יָדָֽעְתִּי | 16 | And Jacob awoke from his sleep, and he said, Notwithstanding, there is Yahweh in this place, and I myself not did know. | 3e | 4B | 22 8
And he said, How fearful is this place. This is nothing but the house of God, and this, the gate of the heavens. | 3e | 4C | 14 16
וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם יַעֲקֹ֜ב בַּבֹּ֗קֶר וַיִּקַּ֤ח אֶת־הָאֶ֙בֶן֙ אֲשֶׁר־שָׂ֣ם מְרַֽאֲשֹׁתָ֔יו וַיָּ֥שֶׂם אֹתָ֖הּ מַצֵּבָ֑ה וַיִּצֹ֥ק שֶׁ֖מֶן עַל־רֹאשָֽׁהּ | 18 | And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and he took stone, that he had set up as his pillows, and he set it up as a monument, and he infused oil on its top. | 3e | 4C | 32 8
וַיִּקְרָ֛א אֶת־שֵֽׁם־הַמָּק֥וֹם הַה֖וּא בֵּֽית־אֵ֑ל וְאוּלָ֛ם ל֥וּז שֵׁם־הָעִ֖יר לָרִאשֹׁנָֽה | 19 | And he called the name of that place the house of God [Bethel]. However Luz [drifter] was the name of the city at first. | 3d | 4A | 12 11
וַיִּדַּ֥ר יַעֲקֹ֖ב נֶ֣דֶר לֵאמֹ֑ר אִם־יִהְיֶ֨ה אֱלֹהִ֜ים עִמָּדִ֗י וּשְׁמָרַ֙נִי֙ בַּדֶּ֤רֶךְ הַזֶּה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָנֹכִ֣י הוֹלֵ֔ךְ וְנָֽתַן־לִ֥י לֶ֛חֶם לֶאֱכֹ֖ל וּבֶ֥גֶד לִלְבֹּֽשׁ | 20 | And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will keep me on this journey that I am going on, and will give me bread to eat, and a garment to put on, | 3d | 4C | 10 39
וְשַׁבְתִּ֥י בְשָׁל֖וֹם אֶל־בֵּ֣ית אָבִ֑י וְהָיָ֧ה יְהוָ֛ה לִ֖י לֵאלֹהִֽים | 21 | And I will return in peace to the house of my father, then Yahweh will be God to me. | 3c | 4B | 10 9
וְהָאֶ֣בֶן הַזֹּ֗את אֲשֶׁר־שַׂ֙מְתִּי֙ מַצֵּבָ֔ה יִהְיֶ֖ה בֵּ֣ית אֱלֹהִ֑ים וְכֹל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּתֶּן־לִ֔י עַשֵּׂ֖ר אֲעַשְּׂרֶ֥נּוּ לָֽךְ | 22 | And this stone that I set as a monument, will be the house of God, and all that you give me, a tenth I will tithe to you. | 3e | 4B | 19 14 |

Genesis 28
The instruction to Jacob from Isaac has a number of surprises for me. It is far more inclusive than I expected. "and may you be a congregation of peoples". And all this because of the deception of Sarah. Yes - it is her doing, her scheme, her (likely dissembling) impatience with the Hittite women, her favoritism. But a congregation of peoples includes Esau, and Ishmael, and hey why not, all the nations of the world. We have already seen this implication in Moses, in Isaiah, and lots of other places. There is no excuse for exclusivity from anyone who professes a complete reading of either TNK or NT. And of course you can see that TNKNT is a circular structure, emphasizing the K.
