1 Chronicles 21

This is more different that I expected from 2 Samuel 24. Worth considering how the same story gets coloured and told quite differently. God and the accuser make appearances, but Yahweh is still involved. There is no detailed itinerary for the visitation and the numbers are not reconcilable. Six hundred weight of gold rather than 50 of silver is the price for the threshing floor, and the name of the protagonist is different. I suspect the Chronicler had an agenda.

1 Chronicles 21 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And an accuser stood up over Israel,
and he incited David to fathom Israel.
3e 4A 10
12
2 And David said to Joab and to the chiefs of the people, Go. Count Israel from Beer-Sheva and to Dan, and come to me and I will know their counts. 3e 4C 29
13
3 And Joab said, may Yahweh add to his people as they are a hundred times. Is not my lord the king of all of them, my lord's for servants?
Why does my lord seek this? Why will he be an offense for Israel.
3d 4C 36
20
4 But the word of the king was resolute over Joab.
And Joab went out and went through all Israel, and he came to Jerusalem.
3e 4B 10
21
5 And Joab gave the count of the conscription of the people to David,
and all Israel were a million and one hundred thousand soldiers that drew a sword, and Judah four hundred seventy thousand soldiers that drew a sword.

38
6 Both Levi and Benjamin, he did not visit among them,
for the word of the king was abhorrent to Joab.
3e 4A 13
11
7 And it was an irritation in the eyes of God over this matter,
and he struck Israel.
3e 4B 16
6
8 And David said to God, I have sinned excessively that I have done this thing,
and now let pass please the iniquity of your servant, for I have been excessively silly.
3e 4C 26
19
9 And Yahweh spoke to Gad, the visionary for David, saying, 3e 4C 13
10 Go and speak to David saying, Thus says Yahweh, Three I have stretched out over you.
Chose for you one from them, that I will undertake for you.
3d 4C 24
14
11 So Gad came to David,
and said to him, Thus says Yahweh. Undergo for yourself.
3d 4A 7
12
12 Whether three years of famine, or three months snatched before your foes, and the sword of your enemy overtaking, or three days of the sword of Yahweh, and pestilence in the land, and the angel of Yahweh destroying within every border of Israel.
So now see what word I will return to him who sent me.
3e 4C 62
13
13 And David said to Gad, My troubles are excessive.
Let me fall, please, into the hand of Yahweh, for his compassions are excessive, and into the hand of humanity let me not fall.
3c 4C 11
21
14 And Yahweh gave a pestilence on Israel,
and there fell from Israel seventy thousand men.
3c 4A 11
12
15 And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it, and as he was destroying, Yahweh saw and sighed over the evil, and said to the angel, the destroyer, Too much now. Let your hand desist.
And the angel of Yahweh was standing beside the threshing-floor of I Shout With Joy [Ornan], the Jebusite.
3e 4C 49
15
16 And David lifted up his eyes, and he saw the messenger of Yahweh standing between the earth and the heavens and his sword drawn in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem.
And David and the elders covered in sackcloth fell on their faces.
3c 4C 43
19

17 And David said to God, Is it not I who said to fathom the people? So I am he who has sinned, and done evil. But these, the flock, what have they done?
Yahweh my God, let be, if you will, your hand against me and against the house of my father, and not on your people that they should be plagued.
3e 4C 45
23
18 And the angel of Yahweh said to Gad to say to David,
that David go up to raise up an altar to Yahweh in the threshing-floor of I Shout With Joy the Jebusite.
3c 4C 14
22
19 And David went up by the word of Gad who spoke in the name of Yahweh. 3e 4C 16
20 And I Shout With Joy turned and he saw the angel, and his four children with him camouflaged themselves,
and I Shout With Joy was pounding wheat.
3c 4B 22
6
21 And David came to I Shout With Joy,
and I Shout With Joy took note, and he saw David and came forth from the threshing-floor, and he prostrated himself to David, nostrils earthward.
3c 4C 8
28
22 And David said to I Shout With Joy, Give me a place in the threshing-floor that I may build in it an altar to Yahweh.
For full silver you will give it to me, that the plague may be contained from over the people.
3e 4C 25
21
23 And I Shout With Joy said to David, Take for yourself and let my lord the king do what is good in his eyes.
See, I have given the oxen for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for a gift. I have given it all.
3c 4C 24
31
24 And king David said to I Shout With Joy, No, for the purchase I will buy for full silver,
for I will not lift up what is yours to Yahweh, and offer up a burnt offering for nothing.
3e 4C 21
17
25 And David gave to I Shout With Joy for the place,
shekels of gold, six hundred weight.
3d 4B 11
9
26 And David built there an altar to Yahweh, and he offered up burnt offerings and peace offerings,
and he called to Yahweh and he answered him in the fire from the heavens upon the altar of the burnt offering.
3e 4C 19
23
27 And Yahweh talked to the angel, and he returned his sword to its sleeve. 3e 4C 17
28 At that time when David saw that Yahweh answered at the threshing-floor of I Shout With Joy the Jebusite,
then he sacrificed there.
3e 4C 21
4
29 And the dwelling-place of Yahweh that Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering at that time,
were in the high place of Gibeon.
3c 4B 24
6
30 And David could not go before it to search out God,
for he was alarmed in the presence of the sword of the angel of Yahweh.
