2 Samuel 13

Who would guess that this might mean bake a cake? It's sole gloss for me so far is heart. Why would I want to invent cakes especially in this chapter, the last of 2 Samuel? 6 more chapters to go after this.

Towards the end of a race, there is debris thrown here and there as one pushes to the end. I hope there is someone with a warming blanket and food at the finish line. Prior chapter is here for verse 1. (In case you missed it.) Note that the story is framed by Yonadab. So much goes on in the world among children that the parents are unaware of.

Verse 37 - who lamented? Over which son?

2 Samuel 13 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And it was after such a thing. And Absalom, son of David, had a beautiful sister, and her name was Tamar.
And Amnon, son of David, loved her.
3c 4B 21
11
2 And Amnon was so in anguish that he made himself ill over Tamar, his sister, for a virgin she was.
And it would be a wonder in the eyes of Amnon to do to her anything whatever.
3e 4B 23
16
3 But Amnon had a friend, and his name was Yonadab, child of Shema, the brother of David,
and Yonadab was a very shrewd person.
3e 4B 17
9
4 And he said to him, Why are you thus, the weak son of the king, from morning to morning? Will you not tell me?
And said Amnon to him, Tamar, the sister of Absalom, my brother. I am in love.

20
5 And Yonadab said to him, Lie down on your litter and make yourself ill.
When your father comes to see you, then say to him, Let Tamar my sister come, please, and pick me a meal of bread, and let her make the meal in my sight in order that I may see and eat by her hand.
3c 4C 17
53
6 And Amnon lay down and made himself ill.
And the king came to see him. And Amnon said to the king, Let Tamar my sister come, please, and make a hearty cake in my sight, two hearty cakes that I may soar from her hand.
3e 4C 8
43
7 And David sent to Tamar towards the house, saying,
Go please to the house of Amnon, your brother, and make him the meal.
3d 4C 13
14
8 And Tamar went to the house of Amnon, her brother, and he was lying down.
And she took the dough, and kneaded, and made a hearty cake before his eyes, and boiled a succulent hearty cake.
3d 4C 15
23
9 And she took the skillet that she infused before him, but he would not eat.
And Amnon said, Let every man go out from me and every man went out from him.
3e 4C 19
21
10 And Amnon said to Tamar, Bring the meal to the inner room, that I may soar from your hand.
And Tamar took the hearty cakes that she had made, and brought them to Amnon her brother, into the inner room.
3d 4C 23
26
11 And she came close for him to eat.
And he resolutely took hold of her and said to her, Come lie with me, my sister.
3d 4B 8
18
12 And she said to him, No, my brother. Do not afflict me, for such is not done in Israel.
You will not do this senselessness.
3d 4B 21
10
13 And I, where will I go with my reproach? And you will be as one of the senseless in Israel.
And now, speak please to the king, for he will not withhold me from you.
3d 4C 26
19
14 But he did not consent to hear with her voice.
And he resolutely took hold of her, and afflicted her, and lay down with her.
3e 4C 10
16
15 Then Amnon hated her with a very great hatred. For the great hatred with which he hated her was more than the love with which he had loved her.
And Amnon said to her, Arise. Go.
3e 4B 35
10
16 And she said to him, No rationale for this great evil. More than the other that you have done with me, to send me away.
But he did not consent to hear her.
3d 4C 30
8
17 And he called his lad that ministered to him, and he said, Send please this away from me outside.
And bolt the gateway after her.
3d 4B 23
9
18 And she had a many hued coat, for so were clothed the daughters of the king, the virgins, exterior cloaks.
And his minister brought her out outside, and bolted the gateway after her.
3c 4C 25
20
19 And Tamar took ashes on her head. And the many hued coat that was over her, she ripped.
And she put her hand on her head, and went on meandering, and appealing.
3c 4C 24
17
20 And Absalom her brother said to her, Has Amnon your brother been with you? And now my sister, be silent. He is your brother. Do not set your heart on this matter?
And Tamar settled, and she was desolate in the house of Absalom, her brother.
3e 4C 47
16
21 And king David heard all these words
And he was burning with anger for himself, especially.
3e 4B 16
6
22 But Absalom did not speak with Amnon for evil or for good.
For Absalom hated Amnon over the matter that he had afflicted Tamar his sister.
3c 4C 15
21
23 And it was for two full years, and Absalom's shearers were at Baal Chatsor that is beside Ephraim.
And Absalom called for all the sons of the king.
3e 4C 27
13
24 And Absalom came to the king and he said, Behold please, the shearers of your servant.
Let the king please come, and his servants with your servant.
3d 4C 22
14
25 And the king said to Absalom, No, my child. Let not all of us go now, and let us not be heavy for you.
And he had breached it, yet he did not consent to go. And he blessed him.
3d 4C 27
15
26 And Absalom said, If not, please let Amnon, my brother, go with us.
And the king said to him, Why would he go with you?
3e 4C 18
13
27 But Absalom had breached him.
And he sent with him Amnon, and all the sons of the king.
3e 4C 7
16
28 And Absalom commanded his lads, saying, See, if you will, when the heart of Amnon is merry with wine, and I say to you, Strike Amnon. Then put him to death. Do not fear.
Is it not I commanding you? Be courageous, and be children of force.
3c 4C 43
18
29 And the lads of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded.
And all the sons of the king arose, and they rode off each on his mule, and they withdrew.
3d 4C 21
22
30 And it happened they were on the way, and the report came to David, saying,
Absalom has struck all the sons of the king, and there was not one left of them.
3e 4C 18
19
31 And the king arose and he ripped his garments and lay down earthward.
And all his servants stood firm, their garments ripped.
3c 4B 18
14
32 And Yonadab child of Shema, the brother of David, answered and he said, Let not my lord say, All the lads of the king's children have died. For Amnon alone has died.
For on the mouth of Absalom, it was set from the day of his afflicting Tamar his sister.
3e 4C 40
21
33 So now, let not my lord the king set to his heart the matter, saying, All the sons of the king have died.
In contrast, Amnon alone has died.
3e 4C 27
8
34 And Absalom ran away.
And the lad on lookout lifted up his eyes, and he saw, and behold, many people coming from a journey behind him, from the side of the hill.
3d 4C 6
31
35 And Yonadab said to the king, Behold the king's children come.
As your servant spoke, so it is.
3e 4C 18
8
36 And it happened as he finished speaking. And, behold, the king's children came. And they lifted up their voice and wept.
And also the king and all his servants wept, a very great weeping.
3e 4C 26
18
37 And Absalom ran away and went to Talmai, child of Ammihud, king of Geshur.
And he lamented over his son every day.
3d 4B 20
11
38 And Absalom ran away and went to Geshur.
And he was there three years.
3e 4B 11
7
39 And consumed was David the king to go forth to Absalom,
for he was comforted over Amnon, for he was dead.
