Judges 16

9 to go. We are now over the 300,000 word mark in completed chapters.

This chapter among others points out to me an overlap between the two stems ענו, ענה. They are very close and I have allowed each the gloss afflict. Other glossaries are even more flexible with their glosses for these stems. Is there really that much flexibility in a stem?

Judges 16 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And Sampson went to Gaza,
and saw there a woman of harlotry, and he came to her.
3e 4B 8
14
2 To the Gazites it was said, Sampson has come here. And they surrounded and they lay in wait for him all the night long by the gate of the city.
And were silent all the night long, saying, Until the light of the morning, then we will slay him.

20
3 And Sampson was laid out until midnight. And he arose at midnight and he held fast the portals of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and he pulled them out with the bar, that he put on his shoulders,
and brought them up to the top of the hill that faces Hebron.

15
4 And it was after such that he loved a woman in the wadi of Noble Vine,
and her name was Delilah.
3e 4B 17
5
5 And to her the chieftains of the Philistines came up, and said to her, Seduce him, and see in what is his great power, and by what we might be able against him, that we might bind him to afflict him,
and we will each give to you a thousand one hundred of silver.
3e 4B 43
15
6 And Delilah said to Sampson, Tell me, please, in what is your great power?
And by what could you be bound to afflict you?
3e 4C 21
11
7 And Sampson said to her, If you bind me with seven fresh bow-strings that not been drained and dried,
then I will sicken, and I will be as any other human.
3d 4C 26
14
8 And to her the chieftains of the Philistines brought up seven fresh bow-strings that not been drained and dried,
and she bound him with them.
3d 4B 22
7
9 And an ambush was sitting in her inner room, and she said to him, The Philistines are upon you, Sampson.
And he snapped the bow-strings as the tossed out lace is snapped when it smells fire, and his power was not known.
3e 4C 23
29
10 And Delilah said to Sampson, Now you deluded me, and spoke to me lies.
Now tell me please, with what could you be bound?
3e 4C 23
12
11 And he said to her, If binding, they bind me with new cords that have not been dealt with in a line of work,
then I will sicken, and I will be as any other human.
3d 4C 30
14
12 And Delilah took new cords, and she bound him with them, and said to him, The Philistines are upon you, Sampson. And an ambush was sitting in the inner room.
And he snapped them from his arms like thread.
3d 4C 41
11
13 And Delilah said to Sampson, Until now you have deluded me, and spoke to me lies. Tell me, with what could you be bound?
And he said to her, if you weave seven renewed braids of my head with the warp of the web.
3d 4C 33
23
14 And she stuck with a peg, and she said to him, The Philistines are upon you, Sampson.
And he awoke from his sleep, and pulled out with the peg, the shuttle, and the warp of the web.
3d 4B 19
21
15 And she said to him, How can you say, I love you, and your heart is not with me?
This is three times you deluded me and have not told me in what is your great power.
3e 4C 17
22
16 ~ And it would be that she stressed him with her words every day, and badgered him,
and he was discouraged to the point of death.
3c 4A 19
7
17 And he told her all his heart, and said to her, No alteration has come up on my head, for a Nazirite of God I am from my mother's belly.
If I am shaven, then my power will turn aside from me, and I will sicken, and I will be like all humanity.
3c 4C 32
24
18 And Delilah saw that he had made clear to her all his heart. And she sent, and she called the chieftains of the Philistines, saying, Come up this one time, for he has made clear to me all his heart.
And the chieftains of the Philistines came up to her, and they brought up the silver pieces in their hand.
3e 4C 39
21
19 And she made him sleep on her knees, and she called for a man, and she shaved seven renewed braids of his head,
and she started to afflict him, and his power was turned aside from him.
3e 4B 24
15
20 And she said, The Philistines are upon you, Sampson.
And he awoke from his sleep, and he said, I will come out as time after time and brush myself off, and he not did know that Yahweh had turned aside from him.
3e 4C 11
33
21 And the Philistines held him fast, and they quarried out his eyes,
and brought him down to Gaza, and they bound him with brass chains, and he did grind in the house of bondage.
3e 4B 14
27
22 But the hair on his head started to grow after he was shaved. 3c 3g 16
23 And the chieftains of the Philistines were gathered to offer a great offering to Dagon, their God, and to be glad.
And they said, Our God has given into our hands Sampson, our enemy.
3c 4C 26
19
24 And the people saw him and they praised their God,
for they said, Our God has given into our hands our enemy, and the one draining our land, and who increased our profaned.
3e 4C 15
35
25 And it was when their heart was merry that they said, Call Sampson, that he may make us laugh.
So they called Sampson from the house of bondage, and he made sport facing them, and they had him stand between the pillars.
3e 4B 19
31
26 And Sampson said to the lad who was encouraging him by his hand, Guide me that I may feel the pillars on which the house is established,
that I may lean against them.
3e 4B 41
7
27 So the house was filled with the men and the women. And there were all the chieftains of the Philistines.
And on the housetop, three thousand men and women, staring while Sampson made them laugh.
3e 4C 23
20
28 And Sampson called to Yahweh, and he said, My Lord Yahweh, remember me please, and encourage me please, but this one time, O God,
that I may take vengeance, vengeance once for my two eyes, from the Philistines.
3c 4C 11
40
29 And Sampson tussled with the two central pillars on which the house was established and was supported,
one with his right hand, and the other with his left hand.
3e 4C 31
11
30 And Sampson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he stretched out in power, and the house fell on the chieftains, and on all the people that were in it.
And the dead that he had put to death in his death, were many more than he had put to death in his life.
3e 4C 36
23
31 And his kin came down and all the house of his father and lifted him up, and they came up and they entombed him between Tsarah and Eshtaol in the tomb of Manoax his father.
And he judged Israel twenty years.
