Exodus 16

This puzzle has entered  a more difficult stage or I am encountering more hapax legomena and I am running out of English words for the variety of Hebrew I encounter. From my last post, I found myself liking aspects of every translation I read. Now maybe I am changing too (besides the aging process). But I still could not appreciate these efforts of others if I had not made my own efforts to reach into the linguistic history.

This is about Sabbath. Note that there is no rest in grumbling (verse 2).

Exodus 16 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And they pulled out from Elim, and all the assembly of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin that is between Elim and Sinai,
on the fifteenth day of the second month of their emergence from the land of Egypt.
3e 4C 30
22
2 And all the assembly of the children of Israel grumbled against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness. 3c 3g 23
3 And the children of Israel said to them, would that death had been given to us by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pot of flesh, and when we ate bread to satiation,
for you have brought us forth to this wilderness to execute all this congregation with famine.
3d 4C 43
26
4 And Yahweh said to Moses, Note me well, I will make bread rain for you from the heavens,
and the people will come forth and glean it as designated day by day so that I may prove them. Will they walk in my instruction or not?
3c 4C 21
30
5 And it will happen on the sixth day when they prepare what they bring in,
that it will be twice what they glean day by day.
3e 4B 18
14
6 And Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel,
Evening, and you will know that Yahweh brought you out from the land of Egypt.
3c 4C 16
18
7 And morning. And you will see the glory of Yahweh, in that he heard your grumblings against Yahweh.
And who are we that you grumble against us?
3e 4B 23
11
8 And Moses said, When Yahweh gives to you in the evening flesh to eat and bread in the morning to satiation, in that Yahweh hears your grumblings that you are grumbling against him.
And who are we? Not against us are your grumblings, but against Yahweh.
3e 4C 48
16
9 And Moses said to Aaron, Say to all the assembly of the children of Israel, Approach to the presence of Yahweh,
for he has heard your grumblings.
3e 4C 26
9
10 And it happened that when Aaron spoke to all the assembly of the children of Israel, that they faced the wilderness,
and behold, the glory of Yahweh appeared in a cloud.
3e 4C 24
13
11 And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 3e 3g 10
12 I have heard the grumblings of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, Between the evenings you will eat flesh and in the morning you will be satisfied with bread.
And you will know that I am Yahweh your God.
3d 4C 35
12
13 And it happened in the evening, that the quail came up and it covered the camp,
and in the morning, the dew was lying round about the camp.
3e 4B 17
16
14 When the dew lying there went up,
then behold, over the surface of the wilderness, finely ground flaky stuff, finely ground as frost over the earth.
3e 4C 7
20
15 And the children of Israel stared, and they said each to its kin, What is it?
For they did not know what it was, and Moses said to them, It is the bread that Yahweh has given to you for food.
3c 4C 23
23
16 C This is the thing which Yahweh commanded, Glean from it each in proportion to what it will eat.
A bale per individual, from the count of yourselves, each will take up for whoever is in its tent.
3d 4C 20
23
17 And they did so, the children of Israel,
and they gleaned, some more and some less.
3e 4B 10
11
18 And when they measured by the bale, there was no surfeit for the one with more, and the one with less was not deprived.
Each gleaned in proportion to what it would eat.
3e 4C 21
8
19 And Moses said to them,
let no-one keep leftovers from it until morning.
3e 4A 8
10
20 But they did not hear Moses and some kept leftovers from it until morning, and it bred worms and it stank,
and Moses was enraged over them.
3e 4C 29
8
21 And they gleaned it from morning to morning, each in proportion to what it would eat,
and when the sun warmed, it melted.
3e 4C 17
8
22 And it was on the sixth day, they gleaned twice the bread, two bales for one,
and all the principals of the assembly came and told Moses.
3e 4B 21
17
23 And he said to them, It is what Yahweh spoke of Sabbaths. A holy Sabbath to Yahweh tomorrow.
What you bake, bake, and what you boil, boil, and all surfeit, leave for yourselves to be kept till the morning.
3c 4C 24
36
24 And they let it rest till the morning, as Moses commanded,
and it did not stink and no maggots were in it.
3e 4C 17
11
25 And Moses said, Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath for Yahweh.
Today you will not find it in the field.
3e 4C 16
10
26 f Six days you will glean,
and on the seventh day is the Sabbath. There will be none in it.
3c 4A 8
12
27 And it was on the seventh day, they came forth from the people to glean,
and they found none.
3e 4B 14
6
28 And Yahweh said to Moses,
How long please will they keep my commandments and my instruction?
3e 4A 8
15
29 See that Yahweh gave for you, the Sabbath. Therefore he gives to you on the sixth day bread for two days.
Let each inhabit its space. Let not anyone go forth from its own place on the seventh day.
3d 4B 30
17
30 So the people ceased on the seventh day. 3e 3g 11
31 And the house of Israel called its name manna.
And it was like the seed of coriander, white, and its taste like thin wafers in honey.
3c 4C 12
17
32 And Moses said, This is the thing which Yahweh commanded, Fill the bale from it to be kept for your generations,
so that they may see the bread that I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out from the land of Egypt.
3e 4C 32
32
33 And Moses said to Aaron, Take one receptacle and consign there the full bale of manna,
and leave it before Yahweh to be kept for your generations.
3e 4C 24
18
34 As Yahweh commanded to Moses,
Aaron left it before the testimony, to be kept.
3c 4A 10
17
35 And the children of Israel ate the manna a forty year span until they came to a land inhabited.
They ate the manna until they came to the limit of the land of Canaan.
3e 4C 24
16
36 [footnoted] the bale, a tenth of the ephah it is. 3e 3g 12
