The rare double merkha - look for it and the preceding accent

There it is - the rare double merkha, the kefula. Supposedly only 5 times in Torah and 7 times elsewhere (according to the article.) Let's see...

I said in a comment on this post that I would report later. And I have just noted that promise while looking for something else.

I have 9 additional occurrences outside of Torah. I have treated this sign as equivalent to a merkha by itself. Perhaps it might have a different sound, much as a string player might tweak a string in a particular manner.

The incidents are Gen 27:25, Ex 5:15, Lev 10:1, Numb 32:42, 14:3, (the 5 of Torah)
1 Kings 10:3, 20:9, Ezek 14:4, Hab 1:3, Zech 3:2, Ezra 7:25, Neh 3:38,

(I added these places to the article referenced. The occurrence counts were masked in the original by the repetitions in the same book.)

Could this sign be anything else? As you can see, I haven't got to most of these. But I'm not sure the English would help us see any significance to this accent.

One thing stands out. This accent always occurs immediately after a darga and immediately before a tifcha. Now I am sure that will make a great deal of sense to you.

Is it I wonder, an aid to the singer who finds the jump of an augmented 5th awkward? The only place I can find that interval unmediated by an intermediate note is in Deut 13:15. So my thesis is plausible.
