2 Chronicles 27

A short chapter recently noted by another blogger. One item to note, verse 1a is repeated in verse 8. Also I wonder if the high one refers to gate or is an additional title of Yahweh (the Most High). The 'hill' might be better rendered as the hill country, i.e. around Jerusalem, a memorable place, though I have not seen הר used elsewhere in this way so far. A cor is a large amount of wheat or other dry goods, perhaps 10 bushels or so.

בֶּן־עֶשְׂרִ֨ים וְחָמֵ֤שׁ שָׁנָה֙ יוֹתָ֣ם בְּמָלְכ֔וֹ וְשֵׁשׁ־עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה שָׁנָ֔ה מָלַ֖ךְ בִּֽירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְשֵׁ֣ם אִמּ֔וֹ יְרוּשָׁ֖ה בַּת־צָדֽוֹק	1		A child of twenty five years was Jotham when he began to reign, and sixteen years he reigned in Jerusalem. And the name of his mother was Yerushah, the daughter of Zadok.	3e	4C	25 10
וַיַּ֨עַשׂ הַיָּשָׁ֜ר בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֗ה כְּכֹ֤ל אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂה֙ עֻזִּיָּ֣הוּ אָבִ֔יו רַ֕ק לֹא־בָ֖א אֶל־הֵיכַ֣ל יְהוָ֑ה וְע֥וֹד הָעָ֖ם מַשְׁחִיתִֽים	2		And he did what is upright in the eyes of Yahweh, according to everything that Uzziah his father had done but he did not come to the temple of Yahweh. And still the people were destructive.	3e	4C	30 7
ה֗וּא בָּנָ֛ה אֶת־שַׁ֥עַר בֵּית־יְהוָ֖ה הָעֶלְי֑וֹן וּבְחוֹמַ֥ת הָעֹ֛פֶל בָּנָ֖ה לָרֹֽב	3	~	He himself built up the gate of the house of Yahweh, the high one. And in the wall of the promontory he built much.	3d	4A	12 10
וְעָרִ֥ים בָּנָ֖ה בְּהַר־יְהוּדָ֑ה וּבֶחֳרָשִׁ֣ים בָּנָ֔ה בִּֽירָנִיּ֖וֹת וּמִגְדָּלִֽים	4		And cities he built in the hills of Judah, and on the wooded heights, he built castles and towers.	3e	4B	10 15
וְ֠הוּא נִלְחַ֞ם עִם־מֶ֣לֶךְ בְּנֵי־עַמּוֹן֮ וַיֶּחֱזַ֣ק עֲלֵיהֶם֒ וַיִּתְּנוּ־ל֨וֹ בְנֵֽי־עַמּ֜וֹן בַּשָּׁנָ֣ה הַהִ֗יא מֵאָה֙ כִּכַּר־כֶּ֔סֶף וַעֲשֶׂ֨רֶת אֲלָפִ֤ים כֹּרִים֙ חִטִּ֔ים וּשְׂעוֹרִ֖ים עֲשֶׂ֣רֶת אֲלָפִ֑ים זֹ֗את הֵשִׁ֤יבוּ לוֹ֙ בְּנֵ֣י עַמּ֔וֹן וּבַשָּׁנָ֥ה הַשֵּׁנִ֖ית וְהַשְּׁלִשִֽׁית	5	~	And he himself warred with the king of the children of Ammon and was resolute over them, and the children of Ammon gave to him in that year a hundred talents of silver, ten thousand cor of wheat and of barley, ten thousand. This the children of Ammon paid in tribute to him, and in the second year and the third.	3e	4C	54 20
וַיִּתְחַזֵּ֖ק יוֹתָ֑ם כִּ֚י הֵכִ֣ין דְּרָכָ֔יו לִפְנֵ֖י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽיו	6		And Jotham was resolved, for he prepared his ways before Yahweh his God.	3e	4C	6 13
וְיֶתֶר֙ דִּבְרֵ֣י יוֹתָ֔ם וְכָל־מִלְחֲמֹתָ֖יו וּדְרָכָ֑יו הִנָּ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֔ים עַל־סֵ֥פֶר מַלְכֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וִיהוּדָֽה	7		And the remaining words of Jotham and all his wars and his ways, behold they are written in the record of the kings of Israel and Judah.	3e	4B	16 16
בֶּן־עֶשְׂרִ֧ים וְחָמֵ֛שׁ שָׁנָ֖ה הָיָ֣ה בְמָלְכ֑וֹ וְשֵׁשׁ־עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה שָׁנָ֔ה מָלַ֖ךְ בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם	8		A child of twenty five years he was when he began to reign, and sixteen years he reigned in Jerusalem.	3c	4B	13 12
וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב יוֹתָם֙ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו וַיִּקְבְּר֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ בְּעִ֣יר דָּוִ֑יד וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ אָחָ֥ז בְּנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו	9		And Jotham was laid out with his ancestors and they entombed him in the city of David, and Ahaz his son reigned in his stead.	3d	4C	19 9
