Exodus 35

The chapter repeats some sections and phrases in Exodus 25. This feature of extensive repetition allows a reader and writer to correct their first impressions of a text when they meet it again (if one reads closely). At the same time, there is opportunity to consider new first impressions.

I wondered about lumber - I could now use wood. I recovered that gloss some weeks ago. Perhaps the traditional acacia wood is simpler.

There are a number of verses in this chapter without rest, or mid-verse caesura. It's curious...

וַיֵּֽצְא֛וּ כָּל־עֲדַ֥ת בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מִלִּפְנֵ֥י מֹשֶֽׁה	20		And all the assembly of the children of Israel went out from the presence of Moses.	3d	3g	16
וַיָּבֹ֕אוּ כָּל־אִ֖ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־נְשָׂא֣וֹ לִבּ֑וֹ וְכֹ֡ל אֲשֶׁר֩ נָדְבָ֨ה רוּח֜וֹ אֹת֗וֹ הֵ֠בִיאוּ אֶת־תְּרוּמַ֨ת יְהוָ֜ה לִמְלֶ֨אכֶת אֹ֤הֶל מוֹעֵד֙ וּלְכָל־עֲבֹ֣דָת֔וֹ וּלְבִגְדֵ֖י הַקֹּֽדֶשׁ	21		And they came everyone whose heart was lifted up, and all whom his spirit made willing. They brought a contribution for Yahweh to the lines of work of the tent of engagement, and for all its service and for the garments of the sanctuary.	3e	4C	12 38
וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים עַל־הַנָּשִׁ֑ים כֹּ֣ל ׀ נְדִ֣יב לֵ֗ב הֵ֠בִיאוּ חָ֣ח וָנֶ֜זֶם וְטַבַּ֤עַת וְכוּמָז֙ כָּל־כְּלִ֣י זָהָ֔ב וְכָל־אִ֕ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֵנִ֛יף תְּנוּפַ֥ת זָהָ֖ב לַיהוָֽה	22		And they came, from the men to the women, all who were willing of heart. They brought bracelet and earring, and rings and brooch, all vessels of gold, and all who made the wave offering elevated gold to Yahweh.	3d	4C	11 37
וְכָל־אִ֞ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־נִמְצָ֣א אִתּ֗וֹ תְּכֵ֧לֶת וְאַרְגָּמָ֛ן וְתוֹלַ֥עַת שָׁנִ֖י וְשֵׁ֣שׁ וְעִזִּ֑ים וְעֹרֹ֨ת אֵילִ֧ם מְאָדָּמִ֛ים וְעֹרֹ֥ת תְּחָשִׁ֖ים הֵבִֽיאוּ	23		And everyone who was found with amethyst, and purple, and crimson scarlet, and fine linen, and she-goats, and rams skins dyed red, and skins dyed indigo, they brought.	3c	4B	27 18
כָּל־מֵרִ֗ים תְּר֤וּמַת כֶּ֙סֶף֙ וּנְחֹ֔שֶׁת הֵבִ֕יאוּ אֵ֖ת תְּרוּמַ֣ת יְהוָ֑ה וְכֹ֡ל אֲשֶׁר֩ נִמְצָ֨א אִתּ֜וֹ עֲצֵ֥י שִׁטִּ֛ים לְכָל־מְלֶ֥אכֶת הָעֲבֹדָ֖ה הֵבִֽיאוּ	24		All lifting high a contribution of silver or brass brought a contribution for Yahweh, and all with whom was found acacia lumber for all the lines of work for service, they brought.	3d	4C	20 24
וְכָל־אִשָּׁ֥ה חַכְמַת־לֵ֖ב בְּיָדֶ֣יהָ טָו֑וּ וַיָּבִ֣יאוּ מַטְוֶ֗ה אֶֽת־הַתְּכֵ֙לֶת֙ וְאֶת־הָֽאַרְגָּמָ֔ן אֶת־תּוֹלַ֥עַת הַשָּׁנִ֖י וְאֶת־הַשֵּֽׁשׁ	25		And every woman, shrewd of heart, in her hands did spin, and they brought what they had spun, amethyst, and purple, the crimson scarlet, and fine linen.	3e	4B	13 27
וְכָל־הַ֨נָּשִׁ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר נָשָׂ֥א לִבָּ֛ן אֹתָ֖נָה בְּחָכְמָ֑ה טָו֖וּ אֶת־הָעִזִּֽים	26		And all the women who lifted up their heart, they in shrewdness, they spun she-goat.	3d	4A	17 6
וְהַנְּשִׂאִ֣ם הֵבִ֔יאוּ אֵ֚ת אַבְנֵ֣י הַשֹּׁ֔הַם וְאֵ֖ת אַבְנֵ֣י הַמִּלֻּאִ֑ים לָאֵפ֖וֹד וְלַחֹֽשֶׁן	27		And the principals brought the stones of onyx and stones to be inlaid, for the ephod and for the breastplate.	3e	4C	21 7
וְאֶת־הַבֹּ֖שֶׂם וְאֶת־הַשָּׁ֑מֶן לְמָא֕וֹר וּלְשֶׁ֙מֶן֙ הַמִּשְׁחָ֔ה וְלִקְטֹ֖רֶת הַסַּמִּֽים	28		And spices and the oil, for the light and for the anointing oil, and incense of sweet spices.	3e	4A	10 16
כָּל־אִ֣ישׁ וְאִשָּׁ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר נָדַ֣ב לִבָּם֮ אֹתָם֒ לְהָבִיא֙ לְכָל־הַמְּלָאכָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֧ה יְהוָ֛ה לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת בְּיַד־מֹשֶׁ֑ה הֵבִ֧יאוּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל נְדָבָ֖ה לַיהוָֽה	29		Every man or woman whose heart was willing to bring, for all the lines of work which Yahweh commanded to do by the hand of Moses, the children of Israel brought a freewill offering to Yahweh.	3c	4B	34 13
וַיֹּ֤אמֶר מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל רְא֛וּ קָרָ֥א יְהוָ֖ה בְּשֵׁ֑ם בְּצַלְאֵ֛ל בֶּן־אוּרִ֥י בֶן־ח֖וּר לְמַטֵּ֥ה יְהוּדָֽה	30		And Moses said to the children of Israel, See Yahweh called by name, Betsalel child of My Light, child of Hur, of the branch of Judah.	3d	4C	19 14
וַיְמַלֵּ֥א אֹת֖וֹ ר֣וּחַ אֱלֹהִ֑ים בְּחָכְמָ֛ה בִּתְבוּנָ֥ה וּבְדַ֖עַת וּבְכָל־מְלָאכָֽה	31		And the spirit of God filled him, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all lines of work,	3d	4B	10 14
וְלַחְשֹׁ֖ב מַֽחַשָׁבֹ֑ת לַעֲשֹׂ֛ת בַּזָּהָ֥ב וּבַכֶּ֖סֶף וּבַנְּחֹֽשֶׁת	32		And to devise devices, to make in gold and in silver and in brass,	3d	4A	7 14
וּבַחֲרֹ֥שֶׁת אֶ֛בֶן לְמַלֹּ֖את וּבַחֲרֹ֣שֶׁת עֵ֑ץ לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת בְּכָל־מְלֶ֥אכֶת מַחֲשָֽׁבֶת	33		And in dressing of stone to fill and to incise timber, to undertake in all the lines of work as devised.	3d	4B	16 12
וּלְהוֹרֹ֖ת נָתַ֣ן בְּלִבּ֑וֹ ה֕וּא וְאָֽהֳלִיאָ֥ב בֶּן־אֲחִיסָמָ֖ךְ לְמַטֵּה־דָֽן	34		And he granted in his heart to instruct, he and Aholiab, child of Axisemak, of the branch of Dan.	3e	4B	8 15
מִלֵּ֨א אֹתָ֜ם חָכְמַת־לֵ֗ב לַעֲשׂוֹת֮ כָּל־מְלֶ֣אכֶת חָרָ֣שׁ ׀ וְחֹשֵׁב֒ וְרֹקֵ֞ם בַּתְּכֵ֣לֶת וּבָֽאַרְגָּמָ֗ן בְּתוֹלַ֧עַת הַשָּׁנִ֛י וּבַשֵּׁ֖שׁ וְאֹרֵ֑ג עֹשֵׂי֙ כָּל־מְלָאכָ֔ה וְחֹשְׁבֵ֖י מַחֲשָׁבֹֽת	35		He filled them with shrewdness of heart to do all the lines of work, carpenter, and manager, embroiderer in amethyst, in purple and in crimson scarlet, and in fine linen, and weaver, and those plying any trade and devising devices.	3c	4B	43 13
