2 Kings 19

I was skating about on the surface of several chapters and all seemed very unfamiliar to me till I noted that 2 Kings 19 was sitting there empty in the middle of a series of chapters from 13 to 25. Again this is from the 4 parallel chapters in Isaiah 36-39, so true to form, Isaiah 37 is now 93% complete by automation. All that remains for me is to form the sentences there, most of which will be based on or identical to the ones below depending on the minor changes in the Hebrew.

Quite apart from the technical difficulty I had for 3 days restarting the database, I now feel that I am back on the horse. I don't know if there is a saddle or not. It depends on whether the horse remains predictable, and language and history and culture being what they are, I am sure there are surprises left. Many of the words in this passage were only single guesses. The text of the prayers and prophecies here is unique in its phrasing. While reading this chapters I also tweaked 19 other chapters. And I discovered that my data recovery process loses the audit dates. I have since backed up these so some history of changes is gone - not very important except to an archivist.

This is a cool story - apart from the questions my translation raises about language, which are legion, the statement of faith from Hezekiah in verse 15 reflects the faith of the Psalms through the phrase ... the heavens and the earth

I have not fully recovered changes I made in April in my forms and programs, but I am always changing them anyway. And I really need to redevelop them in some places. One that I have made selects verses by word sequences. so that I can check my decisions concerning the concordance of sentence construction. I was surprised that את הארץ was not found where I expected, but in the psalms, they being poetry, the phrase does not include the object marker: עֹ֝שֵׂ֗ה שָׁמַ֥יִם וָאָֽרֶץ

I have rarely used the phrase the living God to date. Suddenly I find myself filled with questions about the formation and intent of this phrase. How should I distinguish אֱלֹהִ֥ים חָֽי (here) from 1 Samuel 17 and Deuteronomy 5, אֱלֹהִ֥ים חָֽיים?  Is it a variation in the cultural usage of the Hebrew language? I decided on a construct in this case. And where אל is used rather than the long plural of God, I have used the living One. (Psalms 42 and Hosea 2).

1 And it happened when the king Hezekiah heard, that he ripped his garments.
And he covered himself with sackcloth, and entered the house of Yahweh.

2 ~ And he sent Elyaqim, who is over the house, and Shebna the secretary, and the elders of the priests, covered in sackcloth,
to Isaiah the prophet, child of Amoz.
3e 4B 33
11
3 And they said to him, Thus says Hezekiah, A day of trouble and reproof and blasphemy is this day,
for children come to the breaking, and there is no power to be born.

4 Maybe Yahweh your God will hear all the words of the overlord cupbearer whom the king of Ashur, his master, sent to reproach the God of life, and will referee with the words that Yahweh your God has heard.
So lift up a prayer through the residue that is found.

16
5 And the servants of the king Hezekiah came to Isaiah. 3d 3g 17

6 And Isaiah said to them, Thus you say to your master,
Thus says Yahweh, Do not fear because of the presence of the words that you heard, with which the lads of the king of Ashur reviled me.
3c 4C 17
31
7 Note me well, I will give in him a spirit, and he will hear what is heard, and return to his land,
and I will make him fall by the sword in his land.
3e 4B 18
10
8 And the cupbearer overlord returned and found the king of Ashur warring against Libnah,
for he had heard that he had pulled out from Lachish.
3e 4B 19
9
9 And he heard of Tirhakah, king of Cush, saying, Behold, he has come out to fight you,
and he turned and he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,
3e 4C 22
16
10 B Thus you say to Hezekiah, king of Judah, saying, Do not let your God, whom you trust in, lure you, saying,
Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Ashur.
3d 4C 34
14
11 Behold yourself, you heard what the kings of Ashur have done to all the lands to destroy them utterly,
and will you be delivered?
3d 4B 27

12 Did the gods of the nations deliver them whom my ancestors have destroyed: even Gozan and Xaran,
and Retzeph and the children of Eden that were in Thelasar?
3e 4C 27
11
13 C Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim,
Hena, and Iva?
3e 4C 20
5
14 And Hezekiah received the correspondence from the hand of the messengers, and recited it,
and he ascended to the house of Yahweh, and Hezekiah spread it in the presence of Yahweh.
3c 4B 21
19
15 And Hezekiah prayed in the presence of Yahweh, and he said, Yahweh, the God of Israel, who sits on the cherubim, you are he, the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth.
You yourself have made the heavens and the earth.
3e 4C 46
14
16 Bend Yahweh, your ear, and hear. Give sight, Yahweh, to your eyes and see,
and hear the words of Senacherib that he sent to reproach the God of life.
3c 4C 19
20
17 Truly Yahweh,
the kings of Ashur have made desert of the nations and their land.
3d 4A 4
16
18 And they consigned their gods to the fire,
for they are not God, but the construction of the hands of a human, tree and stone. So they have eliminated them.
3c 4B 10
22
19 And now, Yahweh our God, save us, if you will, from his hand,
and they will know, all the kingdoms of the earth, that you, Yahweh, are God, you alone.
3d 4B 17
22

20 And Isaiah child of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying,
Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, What you prayed to me against Senacherib, king of Ashur, I have heard.
3c 4C 17
30
21 B This is the thing that Yahweh spoke concerning him,
The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you, has derided you. Behind you, the daughter of Jerusalem has wagged a head.
3e 4B 12
28
22 Whom did you reproach and revile? And against whom have you exalted a voice,
and lifted up on high your eyes? against the Holy One of Israel.
3d 4C 17
14

23 By the hand of your messengers you have reproached my lord, and you have said, With my many chariots, I am. I have ascended the high ground of the hills, the flanks of Lebanon,
and I will gouge the place of its cedars, its choice fir trees, and I will enter extreme lodging, the forest of its plantation.
3d 4C 34
26
24 I am my fountain, and I imbibe strange waters,
and I will drain, by the sole of my footfall, all the canals of lower Egypt.
3e 4B 11
14

25 Have you not heard from afar? I have done it from the days of old, and I fashioned it.
Now I have brought it, for you, to reduce to rubble the struggles of enclosed cities.
3d 4C 22
19

26 So their inhabitants were short-handed. They were dismayed and reticent.
They were herbs of the field, and verdant foliage, housetop grass, and as blighted corn before it arises.
3e 4C 13
21
27 But your seat, and your going out, and your coming in, I know,
and your shuddering against me.
3d 4A 13
8
28 C Because your shuddering against me, and your tranquility has come up in my ears,
and I have put my thorn in your nose, and my bit in your lips, and I will return you in the way by which you have come.
3e 4C 18
30
29 And this to you is the sign: you will eat this year accidental planting and in the second year, volunteer planting,
and in the third year, sow and reap, and they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
3c 4C 23
23
30 And the residue will add to the security of the house of Judah, a rootstock downward,
and make fruit upward.
3c 4B 19
8
31 C For from Jerusalem a residue will go forth, and security from mount Zion.
The jealousy of Yahweh of hosts will do this.
3d 4C 17
11
32 Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning the king of Ashur, He will not come against this city,
nor shoot there an arrow, nor confront her with a shield, nor pour out of a ramp, against her.
3e 4C 25
17
33 In the way that he came, in it he will return,
and to this city he will not come. An oracle of Yahweh.
3d 4B 10
13

34 And I will defend this city to save it,
for my sake, and for the sake of David my servant.
3d 4A 13
11

35 And it was in that night that the messenger of Yahweh came out and struck in the camp of Ashur a hundred and eighty five thousand,
and they rose early in the morning and behold, all of them, dead carcasses.
3d 4B 33
17
36 So Senacherib king of Ashur pulled out, and went and returned.
And he settled in Nineveh.
3e 4B 16
6
37 And it happened that he was worshiping in the house of Nisrok his God, and Adramelek and Sharetser, his children, struck him with the sword and they, they escaped into the land of Ararat,
and Esarchadon his son reigned in his stead.
