2 Chronicles 18

You will recognize most of this chapter from the previous post of 1 Kings 22. But there are a few minor differences. My automation achieved an 81% match. The little differences in spelling and grammar slow me down as I investigate, but it's good to be slowed down.

The scattering / dispersal of Israel on the hills is but a warning shot over the bow of the ships to the kings in their regalia. They, the people were not yet exiled, but their masters, the commended Jehoshaphat and the quite lapsed Ahab (who can still know truth), were both guilty of failing their charges. 'Good' leader - 'bad' leader - it doesn't seem to matter. Too bad for the sheep.

If the differences are significant they show up in the English differences. Hebrew spelling variations do not generally show up in the English. The presence of the name Micah in this chapter is odd. Perhaps Ahab was addressing him by a short name.

There is no rest in the verse (28) that indicates an approach to war.

2 Chronicles 18 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And there were for Jehoshaphat riches and glory in abundance,
and he made an alliance with Ahab.
3c 4A 13
2 And he went down after a few years to Ahab in Samaria and Ahab offered for him sheep and oxen in abundance and for the people that were with him.
And he persuaded him to go up to the high ground of Gilead.
3e 4C 32
3 And Ahab the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Will you go with me to the high ground of Gilead?
And he said to him, Like me like you, and as your people my people, and with you into the battle.
3e 4C 29
4 And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel,
Search out, please, according to the day, the word of Yahweh.
3e 4B 13
5 And the king of Israel collected the prophets, four hundred such, and he said to them, Should I go to the high ground of Gilead to war, or should I refrain?
And they said, Go up and God will give into the hand of the king.
3d 4B 38
6 And Jehoshaphat said, Is there no mouth of a prophet of Yahweh still,
that we may search out from him?
3d 4B 15
7 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Still one man to search out Yahweh from him, but I hate him, for he has no prophecy over me for good, but all his days for evil. He is Mikayahu child of Yimla,
and Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
3e 4C 57
8 And the king of Israel called to one eunuch,
and he said, Swiftly, Mikayahu, child of Yimla.
3e 4B 13
9 And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were seated each on his throne, clothed in their garments, at the threshing-floor at the door of the gate of Samaria,
and all the prophets were prophesying facing them.
3e 4C 40
10 And Zedekiah child of Kenaanah made for himself horns of iron,
and he said, Thus says Yahweh, With these you will push back the Aramaeans till you have consumed them.
3d 4B 17
11 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying,
Go up to the high ground of Gilead and prosper, and Yahweh will give by the hand of the king.
3e 4C 10
12 And the messenger who went to call Mikayahu spoke to him, saying, Behold, if you will, the words of the prophets, one mouth, good for the king.
Let be, if you will, your word, as one of them, and speak good.
3c 4C 35
13 And Mikayahu said,
Yahweh lives. But what my God says, such I will speak.
3d 4A 6
14 And he came in to the king and the king said to him, Micah, will we go for the high ground of Gilead to war or should I refrain?
And he said, Go up and prosper, and they will be given into your hand.
3d 4B 32
15 And the king said to him, For how many times do I adjure you,
that you will not speak to me but truth in the name of Yahweh?
3d 4C 20
16 And he said, I have seen all Israel dispersed on the hills, like a flock that is without their shepherd,
and Yahweh said, No masters for these. Let them return each to its own house in peace.
3e 4C 27
17 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat,
Did I not say to you, He does not prophesy over me good but rather for evil.
3d 4B 13
18 And he said, Therefore hear the word of Yahweh,
I have seen Yahweh sitting on his throne, and all the host of the heavens are standing at his right hand and at his left.
3e 4C 11
19 And Yahweh said, Who will seduce Ahab king of Israel that he will go up and fall on the high ground of Gilead?
And said this one, saying, Like thus? And this one said, Like thus?
3e 4C 28
20 And the spirit came forth and stood in the presence of Yahweh, and he said, Myself, I will seduce him.
And Yahweh said to him, With what?
3c 4B 23
21 And he said, I will come out and I will be for the wind, falsehood in the mouth of all his prophets.
And he said, You will seduce and moreover, you can go forth and do so.
3e 4B 20
22 And now, behold, Yahweh has given a spirit of falsehood in the mouth of all these your prophets,
but Yahweh has spoken over you evil.
3e 4C 21
23 And Zedekiah child of Kenaanah made overture and struck Mikayahu on the cheek,
and he said, How is this for the way the spirit of Yahweh crossed from me to speak with you?
3c 4C 22
24 And Mikayahu said, Behold you will see in that day,
when you enter the room of the inner room to be camouflaged.
3d 4B 14
25 And the king of Israel said, Take Mikayahu and return him to Amon the chief of the city,
and to Joash, child of the king.
3e 4B 25
26 And you will say, Thus says the king, Set this in place in the house of restraint,
and feed him the bread of restriction and the water of restriction until I come in peace.
3e 4C 17
27 And Mikayahu said, If returning you return in peace, Yahweh has not spoken in me.
And he said, Hear peoples, all of them.
3e 4C 18
28 And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah and went up to the high ground of Gilead. 3c 3g 22
29 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself and enter into the battle, but you clothe yourself in your garments.
And the king of Israel disguised himself and entered into the battle.
3e 4B 31
30 But the king of the Aramaeans had commanded the chiefs of the charioteers, of which he had thirty two, saying, Do not fight the least, the great,
but rather the king of Israel alone.
3d 4C 31
31 And it happened that when the chief charioteers saw Jehoshaphat, that they, they said, Surely he is the king of Israel and they turned around against him to fight,
but Jehoshaphat appealed, and Yahweh helped him and God diverted them from him.
3e 4C 35
32 And it happened that when the chief charioteers saw that he was not the king of Israel,
that they turned back from following him.
3e 4B 17
33 And someone drew a bow completely, and struck the king of Israel between the appendages and chain mail,
and he said to the charioteer, Change your hand, and bring me forth from the camp, for I am ill.
3c 4C 27
34 And the battle was upward in that day, and the king of Israel was standing in a chariot opposite the Aramaeans till evening,
and he died at the time of the going down of the sun.
