Jeremiah 11

Is it just my imagination or is there considerable overlap between Jeremiah and Deuteronomy? My algorithms for guessing words and phrases are having high performance with both these. Either they both duplicate themselves or they duplicate each other in their phrasing.

There is also uniqueness in Jeremiah as illustrated in this chapter (60% guessed by the computer before I started my review).

Of the 304,727 pieces in (my version of) this puzzle, I have 39,442 that have not yet been turned over (13%), 94,375 (30%) that are single word guesses, 50,677 (17%) that are double word guesses, and 23,147 (8%) that are better than double word guesses. The remaining 32% are in the 413 completed chapters, almost 100,000 pieces (97,086) placed. The ones that are placed are changeable. While doing Jeremiah 11, I discovered an omission in Psalm 106. These are two of about 50 places where the phrase their sons and their daughters occurs. Now that I have it right, those two word guesses will have been increased by 48, and when these verses come up I can press the button to confirm the guesses.

I once had an image of the synoptic Gospels laid out on a table as John constructed his. That is a physically smaller puzzle. I suspect whoever wrote it had the grander puzzle in his memory in the author's own special form. Now let's think about the software to construct John... from NT and Septuagint?

This would be a tough phrase to guess. (John 5:39) I venture it would be in the pieces not yet turned over.
אתם דרשׁים מעל־כתבי הקדשׁ כי בהם אתם אמרים חיי עולם
Interesting to me that my Hebrew NT (an inheritance for me from the library of John Sandys-Wunsch with thanks to his wife, Sheila), has the word for holy in it. Not in the Greek.

ἐρευνᾶτε τὰς γραφάς ὅτι ὑμεῖς δοκεῖτε ἐν αὐταῖς ζωὴν αἰώνιον.

Here is Delitzch's version
דִּרְשׁוּ בַכְּתָבִים אֲשֶׁר תֹּאמְרוּ שֶׁיֵּשׁ לָכֶם חַיֵּי עוֹלָם

How would you set this to the music of the accents? I think that would be a challenge. The Hutter polyglot from 1599 does not have readable accents. But this one does from Margoliuth. When you consider how connected the music is between verses and even between distant chapters, I can imagine the opening of John reflecting Genesis 1 and its opening major triad. (But it doesn't). Perhaps I would use poetic accents in some places.

This verse begins with a turn on the third syllable and a long recital on the tonic.
The move from c to g on לכם בהם occurs only in Deuteronomy 13:15 - unusual.
Well, that is a bit of a distraction from this post.
Here is the prophet of doom.

הַדָּבָר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָיָ֣ה אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ מֵאֵ֥ת יְהוָ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר 1 The word that happened to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying, 3e 4B 18
שִׁמְע֕וּ אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֖י הַבְּרִ֣ית הַזֹּ֑את
וְדִבַּרְתָּם֙ אֶל־אִ֣ישׁ יְהוּדָ֔ה וְעַל־יֹשְׁבֵ֖י יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם
2 Hear the words of this covenant,
and speak to each person of Judah, and against the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
3e 4B 9
וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם כֹּֽה־אָמַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל
אָר֣וּר הָאִ֔ישׁ אֲשֶׁר֙ לֹ֣א יִשְׁמַ֔ע אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֖י הַבְּרִ֥ית הַזֹּֽאת
3 And you say to them, Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel,
Cursed the person that not will hear the words of this covenant,
3e 4B 18
4 which I commanded your ancestors on the day I brought them out from the land of Egypt, from the forge of iron, saying, Hear with my voice and do them, according to all which I will command you,
and you will become my people and I, I will be your God.
3e 4C 48
5 So as to place the oath that I swore to your ancestors, to give them a land gushing with milk and honey, as on this day.
Then I answered and I said, Amen, Yahweh.
3d 4C 35
6 And Yahweh said to me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying,
Hear the words of this covenant and do them.
3e 4C 32
7 ~ For to witness, I testified among your ancestors on the day I brought up them from the land of Egypt, and till this day rising early to witness, saying,
Hear, with my voice.
3e 4C 38
8 And they did not hear and they did not bend their ear and they walked, each in the stubbornness of their evil heart,
and I brought upon them all the words of this covenant which I commanded to do, and they did not do.
3c 4C 21
וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֵלָ֑י
נִֽמְצָא־קֶ֙שֶׁר֙ בְּאִ֣ישׁ יְהוּדָ֔ה וּבְיֹשְׁבֵ֖י יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם
9 And Yahweh said to me,
A collusion is found in each of Judah, and in the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
3e 4B 7
10 ~ They have returned to the former iniquities of their ancestors, that would not hear my words, but they rushed after other gods to serve them.
The house of Israel and house of Judah have thwarted my covenant that I have cut with their ancestors.
3d 4C 42
לָכֵ֗ן כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה הִנְנִ֨י מֵבִ֤יא אֲלֵיהֶם֙ רָעָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־יוּכְל֖וּ לָצֵ֣את מִמֶּ֑נָּה
וְזָעֲק֣וּ אֵלַ֔י וְלֹ֥א אֶשְׁמַ֖ע אֲלֵיהֶֽם
11 Therefore thus says Yahweh, Note me well, I will bring to them an evil which they will not be able to emerge from,
and they will appeal to me and I will not hear them.
3e 4C 26
12 And the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and appeal to the gods to whom they burn incense,
but saving? they will not save them at the time of their hurt.
3d 4B 32
כִּ֚י מִסְפַּ֣ר עָרֶ֔יךָ הָי֥וּ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ יְהוּדָ֑ה
וּמִסְפַּ֞ר חֻצ֣וֹת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם שַׂמְתֶּ֤ם מִזְבְּחוֹת֙ לַבֹּ֔שֶׁת מִזְבְּח֖וֹת לְקַטֵּ֥ר לַבָּֽעַל
13 C For the count of your cities are your gods, Judah,
and the count of the streets of Jerusalem. You have set up altars to shame, altars to burn incense to Baal.
3e 4C 15
וְאַתָּ֗ה אַל־תִּתְפַּלֵּל֙ בְּעַד־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה וְאַל־תִּשָּׂ֥א בַעֲדָ֖ם רִנָּ֣ה וּתְפִלָּ֑ה
כִּ֣י אֵינֶ֣נִּי שֹׁמֵ֗עַ בְּעֵ֛ת קָרְאָ֥ם אֵלַ֖י בְּעַ֥ד רָעָתָֽם
14 But you, do not pray concerning this people nor do you lift up concerning them a loud shout or prayer,
for I will not hear in the time of their call to me about their hurt.
3d 4B 25
מֶ֣ה לִֽידִידִ֞י בְּבֵיתִ֗י עֲשׂוֹתָ֤הּ הַֽמְזִמָּ֙תָה֙ הָֽרַבִּ֔ים וּבְשַׂר־קֹ֖דֶשׁ יַעַבְר֣וּ מֵֽעָלָ֑יִךְ
כִּ֥י רָעָתֵ֖כִי אָ֥ז תַּעֲלֹֽזִי
15 B What is for my beloved in my house to do? She has many schemes, and holy flesh they transfer from you.
For you do evil, then you exult.
3e 4C 28
זַ֤יִת רַֽעֲנָן֙ יְפֵ֣ה פְרִי־תֹ֔אַר קָרָ֥א יְהוָ֖ה שְׁמֵ֑ךְ
לְק֣וֹל ׀ הֲמוּלָּ֣ה גְדֹלָ֗ה הִצִּ֥ית אֵשׁ֙ עָלֶ֔יהָ וְרָע֖וּ דָּלִיּוֹתָֽיו
16 C A green olive, a beautiful fruit, handsome, proclaimed Yahweh, Your name,
for the rumbling of a great hubbub, charred fire on it, and injured its tresses.
3e 4C 16
17 But Yahweh of hosts, who planted you, has spoken evil over you,
into the rubble of the evil of the house of Israel and the house of Judah that they made for themselves, to grieve me, by burning incense to Baal.
3d 4C 18
וַֽיהוָ֥ה הֽוֹדִיעַ֖נִי וָֽאֵדָ֑עָה
אָ֖ז הִרְאִיתַ֥נִי מַעַלְלֵיהֶֽם
18 And Yahweh made me know and I know.
Then you showed me their practices.
3e 4A 10
19 And I am as a young lamb of a drove escorted for slaughter,
and I did not know that against me they have devised devices. Let us destroy tree in its bread, and let us cut him out of the land of the living, and let his name not be remembered any more.
3e 4C 13
וַֽיהוָ֤ה צְבָאוֹת֙ שֹׁפֵ֣ט צֶ֔דֶק בֹּחֵ֥ן כְּלָי֖וֹת וָלֵ֑ב
אֶרְאֶ֤ה נִקְמָֽתְךָ֙ מֵהֶ֔ם כִּ֥י אֵלֶ֖יךָ גִּלִּ֥יתִי אֶת־רִיבִֽי
20 But Yahweh of hosts is judging righteousness, is testing vital centres and heart.
I see your vengeance from them, for to you I have uncovered my strife.
3e 4C 16
לָכֵ֗ן כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ עַל־אַנְשֵׁ֣י עֲנָת֔וֹת הַֽמְבַקְשִׁ֥ים אֶֽת־נַפְשְׁךָ֖ לֵאמֹ֑ר
לֹ֤א תִנָּבֵא֙ בְּשֵׁ֣ם יְהוָ֔ה וְלֹ֥א תָמ֖וּת בְּיָדֵֽנוּ
21 Therefore thus says Yahweh over those of Anathoth, those seeking your being, saying,
Do not prophesy in the name of Yahweh and you will not die by our hand.
3e 4C 22
לָכֵ֗ן כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת הִנְנִ֥י פֹקֵ֖ד עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם
הַבַּֽחוּרִים֙ יָמֻ֣תוּ בַחֶ֔רֶב בְּנֵיהֶם֙ וּבְנ֣וֹתֵיהֶ֔ם יָמֻ֖תוּ בָּרָעָֽב
22 Therefore thus says Yahweh of hosts, Note me well. I will visit them.
Their youths in their prime will die by the sword. Their sons and their daughters will die in scarcity.
3e 4C 17
וּשְׁאֵרִ֕ית לֹ֥א תִֽהְיֶ֖ה לָהֶ֑ם
כִּֽי־אָבִ֥יא רָעָ֛ה אֶל־אַנְשֵׁ֥י עֲנָת֖וֹת שְׁנַ֥ת פְּקֻדָּתָֽם
23 And no residue will there be for them.
For I will bring evil to those of Anathoth, the year of their visitation.
