There is a continuing conversation on violent texts in the Bible and how to read them at Larry Behrendt's blog here. I didn't intend to write an essay in the first comment, but it happened anyway while watching Federer beat Nishikori in the London finals. In this battle, violence is controlled and civilized. And there is no neutrality.
