About this Programme

What happens when the best musical minds are given free reign to depict royalty as well as the life of villagers and mariners? Find out in this grand Baroque orchestral programme in which the splendour of four hunting horns provide the platform for music of royal grandeur as well as well as the humorous characterization of animals and raucous village life. Orchestral highlights from operas by Handel and Rameau are featured alongside two of Telemann’s biggest concert pieces – his “Water Music” and “Alster Overture”, both of which provide musical descriptions of the ebb and flow of life along the rivers of Hamburg. Come to a concert of kings and princes, nymphs, merry mariners, frogs, and crows, all directed by the exciting British harpsichord virtuoso Steven Devine.

A late Christmas post

Time, light, and predestination. This post was intended for Christmas Day (but, whatever,  there is but one and that one ever, as Herbert says in his Easter poem). Go to the PEP talk post on this subject too.

Job 25 - Bildad's last stand

Poor Bildad, only 6 verses. Stephen Mitchell (Harper Perennial 1979) rearranges the speeches of the third round to give a little more to Bildad. He gives him verses from Job's response in chapter 26. But I doubt it is possible to sort out the confusion in the third round of speeches.

Anyway - another short chapter done! You can still tell it's poetry. And we hear all these objections to faith today. I don't think Bildad should be tidied up.

Numbers 7

This is a long chapter but highly repetitive so I developed some extensions to my tools and algorithms to assist in the reading and saving of my readings. When the automated translation is now almost completely correct, I can 'approve' a verse with one click. Then made the few minor mods that might be required.

There have been a number of other gloss changes as I do the various tasks. At the moment I am keeping the recent posts up to date. That way Bob's Bible on the Blog represents what I currently have in my database.

So maybe this will catch my verses up to my chapters. The text reads as a bit of a shopping list after everything has been purchased. I think it illustrates the unity of the person sanctifying the dwelling (aka tabernacle).

Numbers 7 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And it was on the day of the consummation by Moses of the raising up of the dwelling and he anointed it and he sanctified it and all its vessels, and the altar and all its vessels,
and he anointed them and he sanctified them.

Isaiah 12 - some chapters are short

Isaiah 12 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And you will say in that day, I will give you thanks, Yahweh, that you were angry against me.
Your anger turns and you comfort me.

2 Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and I will not dread,
for my strength and psalm is Yah, Yahweh, and he has become my salvation.
3c 4C 13
14

Remember that set on high is his name.

8

Ezekiel 1

O my mystic mind, what a vision. I have set it in the present rather than the descriptive past. More present to the reader than otherwise. Amen.

and of course it is set to music. ִIs there a Babylonian mode, I wonder?

The music of this chapter is ornamented with 6 qarne (ב֩) and 1 talsha(ב֠). Only chapters 20 and 41 exceed these counts. Jeremiah (346), Ezekiel (216), and Deuteronomy (216) have the highest counts for these complex triplet ornaments. With Haïk-Vantoura's interpretation, these ornaments lengthen a syllable and produce a singular emphasis. For all my diatribes against interpreting the accents as 'punctuation' there seems little doubt that the zaqef qatan (ב֔) often behaves like a comma (and sometimes stronger).

Finally, another chapter after almost a month's hiatus. So much happening these three to 12 months, I cannot tell if I will get a sufficient quota of time for some things. With 665 (whew) chapters remaining, I am over an hump! Even at 225 chapters a year that's a lot - just fewer than 20 per month - augh! I hope some of them are short. In fact 3 years is probably too ambitious. Progress on words was very pronounced in the past 3 months, but on verses and chapters, the rate will be slower especially with 2 new projects running concurrently and no slaves except me.

Several tasks are part of this long project: reading, hearing, writing, correcting, analyzing the unknowns, modifying semantic domains and pondering. I would welcome some helping slaves. Where are you? Is there no one out there as mad as I am?

16 The appearance of the wheels and their construction is as an eye of beryl and one likeness for the four of them,
and the appearance and their construction is as it were the wheel in the midst of the wheel.

17 On their four fours, when they go, they go.
Not do they turn round when they go.

18 And their backs: high and lofty they are, and fearful they are.
And their backs are full of eyes round about for the four of them.

20 B To wherever it will be the wind goes, they go where the wind goes.
And the wheels are lifted up with them, for the wind of the living creatures is in the wheels.

23 And under the expanse, their wings are upright each to her kin,
for each two covering are theirs, and for each two covering are theirs towards their bodies.

24 And I heard the voice of their wings as the voice of many waters, as the voice of the Sufficient. When they go, the voice of the speech, as the voice of a camp.
When they stand their wings are slackened.

when they stand, their wings slackened.

26 And from above the expanse that is over their heads, as the appearance a sapphire stone, is the likeness of a throne,
and over the likeness of the throne is the likeness of the appearance of a human above it from the ascent.

27 And I see as an eye of amber, as the appearance of fire between her, round about, from the appearance of its waist and upward,
and from what appears to be its waist and downward, I see as the appearance of fire, and its illumination round about.

28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of the heavy rain, so is the appearance of the illumination round about. This is the appearance of the likeness of the glory of Yahweh.
And I see and I fall on my face, and I hear the voice of a speaker.

Google translate and an Arabic Phrase book

Improvements including aural recitation are evident in Google translate

For example, to learn a little Arabic you can use http://wikitravel.org/en/Arabic_phrasebook and https://translate.google.com.

Just paste a phrase into the left side in Arabic and then see and hear the translation. English-Arabic is equally easy.

To see the letters, put your cursor into the Arabic box and carefully separate them, Watch them change shape. Several letters have 4 different shapes depending on whether they are first (right), middle, or ending the word (left) or stand alone.

Very interesting programming problem interpreting the font.

Here is good morning together
and here are the separate letters ص ب اح ال خ ي ر
right to left - morning - ṣ (sad, Hebrew tsade), b (ba, bet), a (alif used as a vowel), ḥ (ha, chet)
then - good - alif (alef), lam (lamed), kha (kaf), ya (yod), ra (resh).

Press the read phonetically and the Latin characters appear sabah alkhyr

type in good in English and see the variety of definitions and translations below. Or use this link to get this picture:

Conclusion - our families must have sufficient computers to help them learn.
