Song 8

Song 8 Fn Min Max Syll
1 C Who will give you as brother to me, as one who suckled the breasts of my mother.
I would find you outside. I would kiss you, and furthermore none would disdain me.
3e 4C 13
14
2 I would lead you away, make you come to the house of my mother, who teaches me.
I would make you drink of the piquant wine from the pressings of my pomegranate.
3d 4B 16
14
3 His left hand is under my head, and his right hand clasps me. 3e 4B 14
4 I have adjured you, daughters of Jerusalem,
how you rouse, or how you arouse this love till it delight.
3c 4B 11
18
5 B Who is this ascending from the wilderness recumbent on her beloved?
Under the apricot tree I aroused you. There your mother held you in pledge. There she pledged who gave you birth.
3e 4C 15
26
6 Set me in place as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for strong as death is love, hard as the grave, jealousy.
Its fire-brands are fire-brands of fire, that are its flame.
3e 4C 32
11
7 B Many waters cannot quench this love, nor will rivers drown it.
If anyone would give all the value of his house for love, to contempt they would hold him, to contempt.
3e 4C 22
18
8 f We have a younger sister. And her breasts, she has none.
What will we do for our sister on the day that she is spoken for?
3e 4B 12
15
9 If she is a wall, we will build on it a row of silver.
And if she is a portal, we will fortify her with boards of cedar.
3e 4B 13
14
10 I am a wall, and my breasts as towers.
Then I became in his eyes as one who finds wholeness.
3d 4B 11
12
11 B Solomon had a vineyard at Baal Hamon. He gave the vineyard to minders.
Each brought for his fruit a thousand pieces of silver.
3d 4C 21
10
12 My vineyard that is mine is before me.
The thousand is for you Solomon, and two hundred for those who mind his fruit.
3e 4C 7
17
13 Those sitting in gardens, companions attending, make me hear your voice. 3d 4B 20
14 Run away, my beloved, and you be like a gazelle or the faun of the hart, on the mountains of spices. 3e 4C 24

Song 7

Song 7 Fn Min Max Syll
1 C Return, return, she who has peace. Return, return, and we will gaze on you.
What will you gaze on in the one who has peace? A birth between two armies?
3e 4C 17
16
2 How beautiful your footfall in sandals, O prince's daughter.
The curves of your thighs are like jewels, the construction of the hands of an artist.
3c 4B 13
19
3 Your navel is a spherical goblet not lacking mixed wine.
Your belly a pile of wheat buffered among the lilies.
3e 4B 13
13
4 Your two breasts are like two twin faun of the gazelle host. 3d 3g 16
5 Your neck like the tower of ivory,
your eyes blessings in Heshbon over the gate of the daughter of many, your nose like a tower of Lebanon looking out to the face of Damascus.
3e 4B 8
30
6 Your head upon you like Carmel and the tresses of your head like purple,
a king is bound in the girders.
3e 4C 17
7
7 How beautiful you are and how pleasant, O love in delicacies. 3e 3g 16
8 C This, your arising is like a palm tree and your breasts, clusters. 3e 4C 17
9 I said, I will ascend into the palm tree and I will gaze on its tufts,
and they will become - please - your breasts, as the clusters of the vine; the fragrance of your nose, as apricots.
3e 4C 16
22
10 And your palate as fine wine, going to my beloved in uprightness,
gliding over sleeping lips.
3d 4A 16
7
11 I am my beloved's and over me is his aspiration. 3e 4B 12
12 Come, my beloved, let us go forth into the field, let us bide our time among lion cubs. 3e 4C 15
13 Let us go early to the vineyards. Let us see if the vine is flourishing, the tender bud opened, the pomegranates budded.
There I will give my caress to you.
3d 4C 26
7
14 The mandrakes give fragrance and over our doors, all quality new, even of old store,
my beloved, I have treasured up for you.

Ruth 4

Ruth 4 Fn Min Max Syll
1 ~ And Boaz ascended to the gate and sat there, and behold the redeemer passed by which Boaz spoke of, and he said, Turn aside, sit here. What a coincidence!
And he turned aside and sat down.
3d 4C 40
6
2 And he got ten adults from the elders of the city, and he said, Sit here,
and they sat.
3c 4B 20
4
3 And he said to the redeemer, The part of the field of our brother Elimelek's,
which Naomi who returned from the field of Moab, is selling,
3e 4B 22
12
4 and I myself had said, I will disclose in your ear to say, Will you buy before those sitting here, and before these elders of my people? If you will redeem, redeem, and if he will not redeem, make it clear to me, and I will know, for there is none except you to redeem and I after you.
And he said, I myself will redeem.
3c 4C 59
8
5 And Boaz said, In the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi,
and from Ruth the Moabite, the wife of the dead, you buy to raise up the name of the dead for his inheritance.
3e 4C 18
27
6 And the redeemer said, I cannot redeem her lest I impair my own inheritance.
You redeem for you, yourself my redemption, for I cannot redeem.
3e 4C 20
16
7 And this before, in Israel, concerning the redemption and concerning the exchange to raise any matter, a man would flip off his sandal and give it to his friend.
And this was the attestation in Israel.
3d 4C 37
9
8 And the redeemer said to Boaz, Buy for yourself,
and he flipped off his sandal.
3c 4A 12
6
9 And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, Witnesses you are today for I have bought all that was Elimelek's and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's,
from the hand of Naomi.
3d 4C 42
5
10 And moreover Ruth the Moabite, the wife of Mahlon, I have bought to me, as wife to raise up the name of the dead for his inheritance, so the name of the dead is not cut off from his brothers, and from the gate of his place.
Witnesses you are today.
3c 4C 48
6

11 And they said, all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, Witnesses.
Let Yahweh give to the wife coming to your house as to Rachel and as to Leah, which two built the house of Israel, and you make wealth in Ephratha, and acclaim a name in Bethlehem.
3c 4C 17
49
12 And let your house be as the house of Perez which Tamar gave birth to Judah,
from the seed which Yahweh will give you from this lass.
3e 4C 17
19
13 So Boaz got Ruth and she became his wife and he came to her,
and Yahweh gave her pregnancy, and she gave birth to a son.
3d 4C 18
13
14 And the women said to Naomi, Blessed is Yahweh who has not ceased redemption for you today.
And may his name be acclaimed in Israel.
3d 4C 25
10

For your daughter-in-law who loves you and gave birth to him is better for you than seven sons.

1CWhere has he gone, your beloved, O beautiful among women?
Where has he faced, your beloved, so we may seek him with you?

2My beloved descends to his garden, to the terraces of spices,
to graze in the gardens, and to glean lilies.

horrible as a banner set up.

5Turn round your eyes from announcing me, such that they make me bold.
Your hair is like a troop of she-goats curled up from the Gilead.
3e4C15

Ruth 3 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And Naomi her mother-in-law said to her,
My daughter, do I not seek for you rest that it may be good for you?
3c 4B 10
16
2 And now is not Boaz of our acquaintance, with whose lasses you were?
Behold he himself winnows, threshing-floor, barley, tonight.
3d 4A 20
14
3 So wash yourself and make yourself up, and put your shawl on you, and descend to the threshing-floor.
Do not be known to the man till he finishes eating and imbibing.
3c 4B 24
16

4 And let it happen when he lies down. You know the place there where he lies down. And you come and uncover his feet and you lie down.
And he himself will make clear to you what you will do.
3d 4B 31
11
5 And she said to her,
All you have said to me I will do.
3d 4A 6
10
6 And she descended to the threshing-floor,
and she did everything just as her mother-in-law commanded.
3e 4A 6
13
7 And Boaz ate and imbibed and his heart was merry, and he came to lie down toward the end of the pile.
And she came in quietly, and uncovered his feet and lay down.
3e 4C 24
14
8 And it was in the middle of the night and the man was apprehensive and tossed and turned,
and behold a woman lying at his feet.
3e 4B 18
12

9 And he said, Who?
And she said, I am Ruth your maidservant. Spread your wings over your maidservant, for the one redeeming is you yourself.
3e 4C 5
28
10 And he said, You are blessed of Yahweh, my daughter, you have made good your mercy, the last from the beginning,
that you did not go after choice, whether weak or rich.
3d 4C 24
17

11 And now my daughter have no fear. All that you say I will do for you,
for all my people of the gate know that you are a woman of ability.
3d 4C 17
15

but moreover, there is a redeemer nearer than I.

13 B You stop over tonight, and it will happen in the morning. If he will redeem, good, let him redeem, and if he is not delighted to redeem you, then I myself will redeem you, as Yahweh lives.
You lie down till the morning.

14 And she lay down at his feet till the morning, and she arose before a man could recognize his friend.
And he said, Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing floor.
3d 4C 25
15
15 And he said, Provide the cloak that is on you and hold it fast, and she held it fast.
And he measured six sweeps, and put it on her, and she went to the city.
3c 4C 23
18
16 And she came to her mother-in-law and she said, Is that you, my daughter?
And she made clear for her all that the man had done for her.
3d 4B 14
13
17 And she said, He gave me these six sweeps.
Because he said to me, You may not go empty to your mother-in-law.
3e 4C 13
15

18 And she said, Sit tight my daughter until you know how a thing will fall out,
because the man will not be quiet. In this case, he will consummate the thing today.

1Now for Naomi there was an acquaintance of her man, a man of valor and ability from the family of Elimelek,
and his name was Boaz.
3e4C22
4
2And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, Let me go please to the field and glean among the stalks of grain, following that I may find grace in his eyes.
And she said to her, Go my daughter.
3e4C38
8
3And she went, and she came, and she gleaned
in the field, following the reapers.
And she chanced by chance on the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelek.
3e4C18
24
4And behold Boaz came from Bethlehem. And he said to the reapers, Yahweh be with you.
And they said to him, Yahweh bless you.
3e4C21
10
5And Boaz said to his lad who was monitoring the reapers,
Whose is that lass?
3e4C16
8
6And the lad monitoring the reapers answered and he said,
She is the Moabite lass, she who returned with Naomi from the fields of Moab.
3d4C16
19

7And she had said, Please let me glean, and gather among the bales following the reapers.
And she came and she stood from then, the morning, and till this minute, sitting in the house briefly.
3d4C22
24

8And Boaz said to Ruth, Do you not hear, my daughter? Do not go to glean in the field of another, and also do not pass beyond this one,
and thus stay close with my lasses,

9Your eyes on the field where they reap, and you go behind them. Have I not commanded the lads not to touch you?
When you thirst, you go to the vessels and imbibe from what the lads have drawn.
3d4C33
23

10And she fell on her face and prostrated herself to the earth,
and said to him, Why do I find grace in your eyes that you would recognize me, and I am an alien?
3e4C13
28

And you forsook your father and your mother and the land that gave you birth, and went to a people that you did not know the day before yesterday.

13~And she said, Let me find grace in your eyes my lord, for you have comforted me,

14And Boaz said to her, At the time of eating come close here, and eat of the bread and dip your morsel in the vinegar.
And she herself sat at the side of the reapers and he plied her with parched grain, and she ate and she was sated and had leftovers.

18And she lifted it up and came to the city, and her mother-in-law saw what she gleaned.
And she brought out and gave to her what she had left over after she was sated.
3e4B20
16
19And her mother-in-law said to her, Where did you glean today and how did you make out? May the one who recognized you be blessed.
And she made clear to her mother-in-law that she had made out with him. And she said, The name of the man that I made out with today is Boaz.
3c4C26
31
20And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, Blessed be he of Yahweh who has not forsaken his kindness for the living and the dead.
And Naomi said to her, Near to us is the man, and our redeemer is he.
3c4B30
18
21And Ruth the Moabite said,
For he even said to me, With my lads stay close till they even finish all my harvest.
3e4C9
27
22And Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law,
It is good, my daughter, to go out with his lasses, that none compel you into another field.
3e4C11
22
23So she stayed close with the lasses of Boaz, to glean till the consummation of the barley harvest and the wheat harvest.
And she settled with her mother-in-law.

Song 4

You will notice a change: for hedged in verse 12 I have substituted two other common uses of this stem, somewhat more striking. As if one says, what does one do to a garden or a billow, and the answer is not necessarily 'hedge'.
Song 4 Fn Min Max Syll
1 Just look at you, beautiful, my friend. Just look at you, beautiful, your eyes doves from within your headscarf,
your hair like a troop of she-goats curled up on the hillside of Gilead.
3e 4C 23
15
2 Your teeth are like a troop of shorn sheep that have ascended from the wash,
such that all of them are bearing twins, and there is not one among them bereaved.
3e 4B 16
13
3 C Like the thread of scarlet are your lips and your words lovely,
like a slice of the pomegranate your temple from within your headscarf.
3e 4C 15
16
4 Like the tower of David your neck, built for an arsenal,
the thousand shields hang on it, all the escutcheons of the valiant.
3e 4C 14
16
5 Your two breasts and like two twin faun of the gazelle host,
that pasture among the lilies.
3d 4B 16
7
6 C Till the day respires and the shadows withdraw,
I will myself come to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hillock of frankincense.
3e 4C 13
14
7 You are all beautiful, my friend, and there is no spot in you. 3e 4C 11

8 With me from Lebanon, perfection, with me from Lebanon you will come.
You will scrutinize from the head of Amana, from the head of Senir and Hermon, from lions' dens, from the mountains of leopards.
3e 4C 15

How much better is your caress than wine, and the fragrance of your oils than all spices.
3e 4C 11

Honey and milk are under your tongue, and the fragrance of your apparel, like the fragrance of Lebanon.

14 B Spikenard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense,
myrrh and aloes, with all preeminent spices.
3e 4C 18
12

15 A spring of gardens, a well of waters living,
and flowing from Lebanon.
3e 4B 9

Ruth 1

Ruth 1FnMinMaxSyll
1It was in the days of the judgment of the judges, and there was a famine in the land.
And a man went from the house (Beth) of bread (-lehem) of Judah to reside in the fields of Moab, he, his wife, and his two sons.
3c4B16
25
2And the name of the man was Elimelek, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons, Mahlon and Chilion, Ephratites from Bethlehem of Judah.
And they came to the fields of Moab,
and there they were.
3e4C34
10
3And Elimelek died, Naomi's man.
And she was bereft, and her two sons.
3e4B11
10
4And they took for themselves Moabite wives, the name of the one Orpah, and the name of the second Ruth.
And they settled there for ten years.
3e4C22
9
5And they died, even the two of them, Mahlon and Chilion.
And she was bereft, the woman, of her two boys and of her man.
3e4B13
17
6And she arose, she and her daughters in law to return from the fields of Moab.
For she had heard in the fields of Moab that Yahweh had visited his people to give to them bread.
3e4C16
20
7And she came out from the place where she was and her two daughters-in-law with her,
and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah.
3e4B21
15
8And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, Go. Return, each to the house of her mother.
May Yahweh deal with you kindly as you have dealt with those who died, and with me.
3c4C22
23
9May Yahweh give to you, and may you find rest, each in the house of her man.
And she kissed them, and they lifted up their voice and wept.
3e4C17
15
10And they said to her,
For with you, we will return to your people.
3e4A5
7
11And Naomi said, Turn back my daughters.
Why would you go with me?
Are there yet to me sons in my inner parts that they might become adults for you?
3e4C18
17
12CTurn back my daughters. Go, for I am too old to have a man.
For had I said, I am expecting, even if there was tonight a man, and even if I gave birth to sons,
3e4C15
24
13as if you could wait until they had grown up, as if you would remain shut up without there being a man.
No my daughters, for my bitterness is greater than yours. For the hand of Yahweh has come out in me.
3e4C16
11
18
14And they lifted up their voice and wept further.
And Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth stayed close to her.
3e4C11
14
15And she said, Behold your sister-in-law returns to her people and to her God.
You return following your sister-in-law.
3e4B19
8
16And Ruth said, Do not compel me to forsake you, to turn back from following you.
For where you go, I go, and wherever you stop over, I stop over, your people, my people, your God, my God.
3e4C19
28
17Where you die, I die, and there I will be entombed.
Thus Yahweh do to me and add more, for only death will separate me and you.
3e4C13
22
18And she saw that she was sure to go with her,
and she left off speaking with her.
3e4B14
9
19And the two of them went till they came to Bethlehem.
And it was as they came to Bethlehem that all the city was excited concerning them, and the women said, Is this Naomi?
3e4C13
26
20And she said to them, Do not call me Naomi.
Call me Mara, for bitter is the Sufficient to me, excessively.
3d4C14
13
21I myself full went away, and empty Yahweh has returned me.
Why call me Naomi, for Yahweh has answered me, and the Sufficient brought trouble to me.
3e4C17
20
22So Naomi returned, and Ruth, the Moabite, her daughter-in-law with her. She returned from the fields of Moab.
And they came to Bethlehem at the commencement of the harvest of barley.
