Zephaniah 3

Yes, this is Zephaniah 3 - hot out of the translator's strange mind. The discipline I have imposed on the Psalms has been imposed here. I have also recently imposed it on Jonah and Ruth, and will shortly impose it onto Job, the Song, Lamentations (the last 3 chapters) and Qohelet. That's a couple of month's work I think. During this time I will also see the music for these books. Three points of view - word root repetition, music, and semantic domain. The first is objective, the second subject to computer-driven coded rules, and the third somewhat subjective, and lagging, and always under refinement as new data is uncovered.

But here is Zephaniah. The prophet is very positive in the third chapter. I realize I have been provocative occasionally. I don't trust some of the guesses that are in the past, like booty or spoil for עד, a word usually associated with forever or just a preposition, to/until. Anyway, while it may be necessary to adjust this elsewhere or later, I didn't see it as needed here.

The use of prodigality has a nice application when its use is compared to the psalms where it might be rendered prodigality or wantonness (both are extremes of a sort). In this chapter, it is noted that the human is abusing its prodigality. Could this not be read as abuse of the prodigality of creation, as appropriate to our time?

Where there is a carriage return (surely an anachronism) in the middle of a verse or sentence, that marks the atenach, or the rest point on the subdominant in the music. In most cases, it is a rest where one might expect it.

The music and it is in the usual place though my Google drive is a bit of a mess - lots of experimental and historical bits.

Zephaniah, chapter 3 [You never mentioned I had the wrong chapter in my paste buffer!]
1
Alas for her that is flighty and sullied,
for the suppressing city!
8
5
2
She did not hear with the voice. She did not receive chastening.
In Yahweh she did not trust. To her God she did not draw near.
10
15
3
Her nobility within her are roaring lions.
Her judges evening wolves who lay aside nothing for the morning.
12
14
4
Her prophets are braggarts, treacherous mortals.
Her priests profane holiness and do violence to instruction.
11
11
5
Yahweh, a righteous one, is within her. He will not do injustice.
From morning to morning his judgment gives light. He does not lag behind, but an unjust one does not know to be ashamed.
13
25
6
I have cut off nations. Their pinnacles are desolate. I have made their streets a desert. Nary a one passes by.
Laid waste are their cities, nary a person, without inhabitant.
22
12
7
I said, surely you will fear me, you will receive chastening, so her habitation will not be cut off.
All that I visited on her..., nevertheless they were insistent, they destroyed all their prodigality.
29
13
8
Therefore you tarry for me, this is an oracle of Yahweh, to the day of my arising for ever.
For my judgment is to gather nations, to collect kingdoms, to pour out on them my indignation, all my fierce anger, for in the fire of my jealousy, all the earth will be devoured.
15
40
9
For then I will impart to peoples a pure language,
to call, all of them, in the name of Yahweh, to serve with one insistence.
12
15
10
From beyond the rivers of Cush
my petitioners, the daughter of my dispersed, will convey my gifts.
8
13
11
In that day, you will not be ashamed from all the prodigality by which you transgressed against me,
for then I will put aside from within you those who exult in your pride. You will not again be haughty any more in my holy mountain.
21
27
12
I will also leave a residue within you, a people impoverished and weak,
and they will take refuge in the name of Yahweh.
12
7
13
The residue of Israel will not do injustice and will not speak a lie and in their mouths a deceitful tongue will not be found,
for they themselves will pasture and recline and without apprehensiveness. S
31
13
14
Shout aloud, daughter of Zion, be jubilant, Israel.
Be glad and exult with all heart, daughter of Jerusalem.
11
13
15
Yahweh has put aside your judgments. He faced your enemy.
The king of Israel, Yahweh, is within you. You will not see evil any more.
12
15
16
In that day, it will be said to Jerusalem, do not fear,
Zion, do not let go your hands.
15
8
17
Yahweh, your God is within you. One who prevails will save.
He will joy over you with gladness. He will be silent in his love. He will rejoice over you with a loud shout.
14
24
18
They who are sad, I will gather to an appointed place. They are from you,
a lifting up of a reproach above her.
12
7
19
Behold me dealing with all your afflictions at this time.
And I will save the halt, and the banished I will collect, and I will set them in place for praise and for a name, in all the earth where they had shame.
14
32
20
At that time, I will conduct you, and at the time I collect you.
For I will give you for a name and a praise among all the peoples of the earth when I turn your captivity in your eyes, says Yahweh.
