Psalms 119 gets a lot of bad press. It is an astonishing act of love and devotion in a spirit of play and delight. So how can one learn to love Instruction - Torah? One must just study it, line by line, verse by verse (faithfully, of course, so that something will rub off).
I have translated this psalm with the constraint of the acrostic. I am not as clever as The Countess of Pembroke who did such a poetic translation in the 17th century, but she has not quite the constraints that I have imposed either. You will see that I pay strict attention to the mid-verse rest. And if there is none, as in verses 2, 4, and 5, then there is no rest in my translation either. (Observe that some verses include a line feed and others do not. There are no verses with two line-feeds as there are in some of the poetry books.)
Read this slowly. Stop and Ponder. I see much in here about falsehood. How curious that it is so applicable today in these years of falsehood that we have endured. I also note elements of story that the poet implies.
