1 And finished were the heavens and the earth and all their hosts. (1-1)
א ויכל֛ו השמ֥ים והא֖רץ וכל־צבאֽם 15

2 And God finished on the seventh day his affairs that he constructed.
And he ceased on the seventh day from all his affairs that he constructed. (1-4-1)
ב ויכ֤ל אלהים֙ בי֣ום השביע֔י מלאכת֖ו אש֣ר עש֑ה
וישבת֙ בי֣ום השביע֔י מכל־מלאכת֖ו אש֥ר עשֽה

3 And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it.
For on it he ceased from all his affairs that God created for construction. (1-4-1)
ג ויב֤רך אלהים֙ את־י֣ום השביע֔י ויקד֖ש את֑ו
כ֣י ב֤ו שבת֙ מכל־מלאכת֔ו אשר־בר֥א אלה֖ים לעשֽות פ

4 ♪B These are the successions of the heavens and the earth when they were created,
on the day Yahweh God constructed earth and heaven. (B-1-4-1)
ד א֣לה תולד֧ות השמ֛ים והא֖רץ בהבֽרא֑ם
בי֗ום עש֛ות יהו֥ה אלה֖ים א֥רץ ושמֽים

15
d alh toldot hwmiim vharx bhibram
biom ywot ihvh alohim arx vwmiim
5 And every shrub of the field, ere it was in the earth, and every herb of the field ere it grew.
For Yahweh God had not made it rain on the earth and there was no human to serve the ground. (1-4-1)
ה וכ֣ל ש֣יח השד֗ה ט֚רם יֽהי֣ה בא֔רץ וכל־ע֥שב השד֖ה ט֣רם יצמ֑ח
כי֩ ל֨א המט֜יר יהו֤ה אלהים֙ על־הא֔רץ ואד֣ם א֔ין לֽעב֖ד את־הֽאדמֽה

6 And a humidity ascended from the earth,
and gave drink to all the surface of the ground. (1-4-1)
ו וא֖ד יֽעל֣ה מן־הא֑רץ
והשק֖ה אֽת־כל־פנֽי הֽאדמֽה

vhwqh at-cl-pni hadmh
7 And Yahweh God fashioned the human, dust from the humus, and exhaled into its nose the breath of life,
and the human to itself became alive. (1-4-1)
ז וייצר֩ יהו֨ה אלה֜ים את־הֽאד֗ם עפר֙ מן־ה֣אדמ֔ה ויפ֥ח באפ֖יו נשמ֣ת חי֑ים
וֽיה֥י הֽאד֖ם לנ֥פש חיֽה

vihi hadm lnpw kih
8 And Yahweh God planted a garden in Eden from the east,
and he set up there the human that he had fashioned. (1-4-1)
ח ויט֞ע יהו֧ה אלה֛ים גן־בע֖דן מק֑דם
וי֣שם ש֔ם את־הֽאד֖ם אש֥ר יצֽר

viwm wm at-hadm awr ixr
9 And Yahweh God made grow from the ground every tree attractive to see and good to eat,
and the tree of the living in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. (1-4-1)
ט ויצמ֞ח יהו֤ה אלהים֙ מן־ה֣אדמ֔ה כל־ע֛ץ נחמ֥ד למרא֖ה וט֣וב למאכ֑ל
וע֤ץ הֽחיים֙ בת֣וך הג֔ן וע֕ץ הד֖עת ט֥וב ורֽע

T vixmk ihvh alohim mn-hadmh cl-yx nkmd lmrah vTob lmacl
vyx hkiim btoç hgn vyx hdyt Tob vry
10 And a river goes out from Eden to irrigate the garden,
and from there separates and becomes four headwaters. (1-4-1)
י ונהר֙ יצ֣א מע֔דן להשק֖ות את־הג֑ן
ומשם֙ יפר֔ד והי֖ה לארבע֥ה ראשֽים

i vnhr ioxa mydn lhwqot at-hgn
umwm iiprd vhih larbyh rawim
11 ♪f The name of the first is Pishon.
It surrounds all the land of the one who brings to birth where there is gold. (f-1-4-1)
יא ש֥ם הֽאח֖ד פיש֑ון
ה֣וא הסב֗ב א֚ת כל־א֣רץ הֽחויל֔ה אשר־ש֖ם הזהֽב

hua hsobb at cl-arx hkvvilh awr-wm hzhb
12 And the gold of that land is good.
There is bdellium and onyx stone. (1-4-1)
יב וֽזה֛ב הא֥רץ הה֖וא ט֑וב
ש֥ם הבד֖לח וא֥בן השֽהם

ib uzhb harx hhia Tob
wm hbdolk vabn hwohm
13 And the name of the second river is Gihon.
It surrounds all the land of Cush. (1-4-1)
יג ושֽם־הנה֥ר השנ֖י גיח֑ון
ה֣וא הסוב֔ב א֖ת כל־א֥רץ כֽוש

14 And the name of the third river is Hidkel. It meanders east to Ashur.
And the fourth river is Euphrates. (1-4-1)
יד וש֨ם הנה֤ר השלישי֙ חד֔קל ה֥וא הֽהל֖ך קדמ֣ת אש֑ור
והנה֥ר הֽרביע֖י ה֥וא פרֽת

15 And Yahweh God took the human,
and he allowed him into the garden of Eden to serve it and to guard it. (1-4-1)
טו ויק֛ח יהו֥ה אלה֖ים את־הֽאד֑ם
וינח֣הו בגן־ע֔דן לעבד֖ה ולשמרֽה

Tv viiqk ihvh alohim at-hadm
vinikhu bgn-ydn lyobdh ulwomrh
16 And Yahweh God gave command to the human and said,
From every tree of the garden, for food you will eat. (1-4-1)
טז ויצו֙ יהו֣ה אלה֔ים על־הֽאד֖ם לאמ֑ר
מכ֥ל עֽץ־הג֖ן אכ֥ל תאכֽל

Tz vixv ihvh alohim yl-hadm lamor
mcol yx-hgn acol tacl
17 But from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you will not eat from it,
for in the day of your eating from it, for death you will die. (1-4-1)
יז ומע֗ץ הד֙עת֙ ט֣וב ור֔ע ל֥א תאכ֖ל ממ֑נו
כ֗י בי֛ום אכלך֥ ממ֖נו מ֥ות תמֽות

12
iz umyx hdyt Tob vry la tacl mmnu
ci biom acolç mmnu mot tmut
18 And Yahweh God said, It is not good that the human is itself alone.
I will construct its help as conspicuous to it. (1-4-1)
יח וי֙אמר֙ יהו֣ה אלה֔ים לא־ט֛וב הי֥ות הֽאד֖ם לבד֑ו
אֽעשה־ל֥ו ע֖זר כנגדֽו

ik viamr ihvh alohim la-Tob hiot hadm lbdo
aywh-lo yzr cngdo
19 And Yahweh God fashioned from the ground every living thing of the field and all the fowl of the heavens and had them come to the human to see what it would call to it.
And all that the human called it, the self that has life, that was its name. (1-4-1)
יט ויצר֩ יהו֨ה אלה֜ים מן־הֽאדמ֗ה כל־חי֤ת השדה֙ ואת֙ כל־ע֣וף השמ֔ים ויבא֙ אל־ה֣אד֔ם לרא֖ות מה־יקרא־ל֑ו
וכל֩ אש֨ר יקרא־ל֧ו הֽאד֛ם נ֥פש חי֖ה ה֥וא שמֽו

iT viixr ihvh alohim mn-hadmh cl-kit hwdh vat cl-yof hwmiim viba al-hadm lraot mh-iqra-lo
vcol awr iqra-lo hadm npw kih hua wmo
20 And the human called the names of all the cattle and of the fowl of the heavens and to all the living of the field,
but for the human was not found help as conspicuous to it. (1-4-1)
כ ויקר֨א הֽאד֜ם שמ֗ות לכל־הבהמה֙ ולע֣וף השמ֔ים ולכ֖ל חי֣ת השד֑ה
ולאד֕ם לֽא־מצ֥א ע֖זר כנגדֽו

uladm la-mxa yzr cngdo
21 And Yahweh God made a trance fall on the human and it slept,
and he took one from its ribs and he stitched up the flesh under it. (1-4-1)
כא ויפל֩ יהו֨ה אלה֧ים תרדמ֛ה על־האד֖ם וייש֑ן
ויק֗ח אחת֙ מצלעת֔יו ויסג֥ר בש֖ר תחתֽנה

17
ca vipl ihvh alohim trdmh yl-hadm viiwn

22 And Yahweh God built the rib that he took from the human into woman.
And he had her come to the human. (1-4-1)
כב ויבן֩ יהו֨ה אלה֧ים אֽת־הצל֛ע אשר־לק֥ח מן־הֽאד֖ם לאש֑ה
ויבא֖ה אל־הֽאדֽם

cb viibn ihvh alohim at-hxly awr-lqk mn-hadm laiwh
vibiaha al-hadm
23 And the human said, This pulse is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh.
This one will be called woman. For from man this one was taken. (1-4-1)
כג ויאמר֮ הֽאדם֒ ז֣את הפ֗עם ע֚צם מֽעצמ֔י ובש֖ר מבשר֑י
לזאת֙ יקר֣א אש֔ה כ֥י מא֖יש לֽקחה־זֽאת

cg viamr hadm zat hpym yxm myxmii ubwr mbwri
lzat iiqra aiwh ci maiw luqkh-zat
24 Therefore a man will forsake his father and his mother,
and stay close to his woman and let them be of one flesh. (1-4-1)
כד על־כן֙ יֽעזב־א֔יש את־אב֖יו ואת־אמ֑ו
ודב֣ק באשת֔ו והי֖ו לבש֥ר אחֽד

14
cd yl-cn iyzob-aiw at-abiv vat-aimo
vdbq bawto vhiu lbwr akd
25 And the two of them were naked, the human and his woman,
and they were not ashamed. (1-4-1)
כה ויֽהי֤ו שניהם֙ ערומ֔ים הֽאד֖ם ואשת֑ו
ול֖א יתבשֽשו
