Ezekiel 42

One of the questions that occurs to me in this visionary world is how to phrase the time of the vision, the time within the vision, and the time of the reporting of the vision. I am writing as if the vision is in the past and is described as in the past, but speech within the vision may be in the present or the future. This applies both to explicit verbs and to implied copulative verbs if required.

Verse 42 seems to be a recap of the description thus far in the chapter. It is a long sentence without rest in a pattern I have not seen before, a repetition of the accent sequence darga-tevir-darga-tevir for the text "the way of the east, facing the unconnected". This leads to the music c-d-c-d. You can see how the accents below the text determine the pitch of the reciting note in the image below.

Ezekiel 42:10 the music of a rare double of paired accents darga-tevir
This doubled pattern c-d-c-d occurs only twice. Above as shown and in 2 Kings 17:36 where the words underlying the music are "from the / land of Egypt in / great power".
2 Kings 17:36 the music of a rare double of paired accents darga-tevir
Now what would such a tidbit of trivia tell us? Is there perhaps a pondering motive in the composition that might reveal a connection between these two passages? One thing is for certain - without the deciphering key of Suzanne Haïk-Vantoura, I personally would have been defeated by the accents and I would never have noticed this unique similarity. That clarity alone justifies the study of her key as an ancient musical possibility.

Ezekiel 42 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And he brought me out to the outward court, the way, the way of the north.
And he brought me to the chamber that is in front of the unconnected place, and that is in front of the building to the north.
3c 4B 21
27
2 Before me, a length of a hundred cubits, was the door of the north,
and the breadth was fifty cubits.
3e 4B 14

3 B In front of the twenty that are for the court of the presence, and in front of the pavement that is for the outward court,
was gallery before gallery in threes.
3e 4B 27
9
4 And facing the chambers was a walk, ten cubits broad to the presence, a way of one cubit,
and their doors to the north.
3e 4B 25
7
5 And the chambers of the upper parts were shortened,
for the galleries ate up more of these than the lower or than the central buildings.
3d 4A 11
22
6 C For in threes they were, but without their pillars like the pillars of the courts,
so they were tapered more than the lower or the central from the earth.

7 And the fence that is outside set against the chambers, the way of the outward court before the chambers,
its length, fifty cubits.
3d 4C 28
7
8 For the length of the chambers that are for the outward court, was fifty cubits,
and behold, before the temple, a hundred cubits.
3d 4B 19
13
9 And beneath these chambers,
was the entry from the east as one goes into them from the outward court.
3e 4B 10
20
10 In the breadth of the fence of the court, the way of the east, facing the unconnected, and at the face of the building, were the chambers. 3c 4B 29
11 And the way before them was like the appearance of the chambers that were the way of the north, as their length so their breadth,
and all their goings out, and according to their framework, and according to their doors.
3e 4B 25
15
12 And according to the doors of the chambers that were the way of the southern region, a door at the top of the way,
directly facing the fence, defending the way of the east as one enters them.
3e 4B 19
18
13 And he said to me, The chambers of the north, the chambers of the southern region, that face the unconnected, they are the chambers of the sanctuary, where the priests that approach to Yahweh will eat the holy of holy things.
There they will give rest to the holy of holy things, and the gift, and the sin offering, and the guilt offering, for the place is holy.
3c 4B 52
28
14 When the priests enter them, then they will not go out from the holy to the outward court, but there they will give rest to their garments that are for their ministry, for they are holy,
and they will put on other garments when they approach to what is for the people.
3c 4C 42
17
15 And he finished measuring the house facings, and he brought me out the way of the gate that faces the way of the east,
and he measured round and round about.
3e 4B 31
7
16 He measured the wind of the east with the measuring calamus,
five hundred calamus with the measuring calamus round about.
3d 4B 12
13
17 He measured the wind of the north,
five hundred calamus with the measuring calamus round about.
3d 4B 7
13
18 d The wind of the southern region he measured,
five hundred calamus with the measuring calamus.
3d 4A 8
11
19 He turned round to the western wind.
He measured five hundred calamus with the measuring calamus.
3d 4B 7
13
20 He measured it to the four winds, its wall round and round about. Length, five hundred, and breadth, five hundred,
to differentiate between the holy to the profane.
