Numbers 34

This is, I think, somewhat routine. Borders and principals who will inherit on behalf of each branch of the family. There is the rather daunting problem of naming people and places with some degree of consistency, which I have not done. Sometimes I am traditional, and sometimes I transliterate according to a rule, and sometimes I translate and sometimes not.

It is possible as these unfamiliar places recur, that we will see the chapters in which they recur shortly. That may make some of the names more familiar.

וְהָיָ֨ה לָכֶ֧ם פְּאַת־נֶ֛גֶב מִמִּדְבַּר־צִ֖ן עַל־יְדֵ֣י אֱד֑וֹם וְהָיָ֤ה לָכֶם֙ גְּב֣וּל נֶ֔גֶב מִקְצֵ֥ה יָם־הַמֶּ֖לַח קֵֽדְמָה	3		And your south quarter will be from the wilderness of Zin by means of Edom, and your south border will be from the shore of the salt sea eastward.	3c	4C	18 17
וְנָסַ֣ב לָכֶם֩ הַגְּב֨וּל מִנֶּ֜גֶב לְמַעֲלֵ֤ה עַקְרַבִּים֙ וְעָ֣בַר צִ֔נָה וְהָיוּ֙ תּֽוֹצְאֹתָ֔יו מִנֶּ֖גֶב לְקָדֵ֣שׁ בַּרְנֵ֑עַ וְיָצָ֥א חֲצַר־אַדָּ֖ר וְעָבַ֥ר עַצְמֹֽנָה	4		And your border will circle from the south to the ascendance of the scorpions, and pass through toward Zin and its going forth will be from the south to Qadesh-Barnea, and will go out to the Court of Excellence and pass through toward Bones.	3e	4C	37 13
וְנָסַ֧ב הַגְּב֛וּל מֵעַצְמ֖וֹן נַ֣חְלָה מִצְרָ֑יִם וְהָי֥וּ תוֹצְאֹתָ֖יו הַיָּֽמָּה	5		And the border will circle from Bones toward the torrent of Egypt, and its going forth will be toward the sea.	3c	4B	13 9
וּגְב֣וּל יָ֔ם וְהָיָ֥ה לָכֶ֛ם הַיָּ֥ם הַגָּד֖וֹל וּגְב֑וּל זֶֽה־יִהְיֶ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם גְּב֥וּל יָֽם	6		And the border seaward, and it will be for you the great sea, and this border will be your western border.	3d	4B	15 8
וְזֶֽה־יִהְיֶ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם גְּב֣וּל צָפ֑וֹן מִן־הַיָּם֙ הַגָּדֹ֔ל תְּתָא֥וּ לָכֶ֖ם הֹ֥ר הָהָֽר	7		And this will be your northern border, from the great sea, you will draw your line to Mount Hor.	3e	4B	10 14
מֵהֹ֣ר הָהָ֔ר תְּתָא֖וּ לְבֹ֣א חֲמָ֑ת וְהָי֛וּ תּוֹצְאֹ֥ת הַגְּבֻ֖ל צְדָֽדָה	8		From Mount Hor you will draw a line to the entrance to Hamath, and the goings forth of the border will be toward Tsadad.	3d	4B	11 10
וְיָצָ֤א הַגְּבֻל֙ זִפְרֹ֔נָה וְהָי֥וּ תוֹצְאֹתָ֖יו חֲצַ֣ר עֵינָ֑ן זֶֽה־יִהְיֶ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם גְּב֥וּל צָפֽוֹן	9		And the border will go out towards Ziphron and its going forth will be Chatsor-Enan. This will be your northern border.	3e	4C	18 9
וְהִתְאַוִּיתֶ֥ם לָכֶ֖ם לִגְב֣וּל קֵ֑דְמָה מֵחֲצַ֥ר עֵינָ֖ן שְׁפָֽמָה	10		And you will draw your line to the border eastward, from the Court of Springs [Chatsor-Enan] towards Shepham.	3e	4B	11 8
וְיָרַ֨ד הַגְּבֻ֧ל מִשְּׁפָ֛ם הָרִבְלָ֖ה מִקֶּ֣דֶם לָעָ֑יִן וְיָרַ֣ד הַגְּב֔וּל וּמָחָ֛ה עַל־כֶּ֥תֶף יָם־כִּנֶּ֖רֶת קֵֽדְמָה	11		And the border will descend from Shepham to Riblah from the east to Ein, and the border will descend and will brush past by the shoulder of the sea of Kinneret eastward.	3c	4B	16 17
וְיָרַ֤ד הַגְּבוּל֙ הַיַּרְדֵּ֔נָה וְהָי֥וּ תוֹצְאֹתָ֖יו יָ֣ם הַמֶּ֑לַח זֹאת֩ תִּהְיֶ֨ה לָכֶ֥ם הָאָ֛רֶץ לִגְבֻלֹתֶ֖יהָ סָבִֽיב	12		And the border will descend the Jordan, and its going forth will be the salt sea. This will be for you the land to its borders surrounding.	3d	4C	19 15
וַיְצַ֣ו מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֶת־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר זֹ֣את הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר תִּתְנַחֲל֤וּ אֹתָהּ֙ בְּגוֹרָ֔ל אֲשֶׁר֙ צִוָּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה לָתֵ֛ת לְתִשְׁעַ֥ת הַמַּטּ֖וֹת וַחֲצִ֥י הַמַּטֶּֽה	13		And Moses commanded the children of Israel, saying, This is the land that you will inherit by lot, which commanded Yahweh to give to the nine branches and the half branch.	3d	4C	12 35
כִּ֣י לָקְח֞וּ מַטֵּ֨ה בְנֵ֤י הָראוּבֵנִי֙ לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֔ם וּמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־הַגָּדִ֖י לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם וַחֲצִי֙ מַטֵּ֣ה מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה לָקְח֖וּ נַחֲלָתָֽם	14	B	For they have received, the branch of the children of the Reubenites for the house of their ancestors, and the branch of the children of the Gadites for the house of their ancestors, and the half branch of Manasseh, they have received their inheritance.	3e	4C	28 14
שְׁנֵ֥י הַמַּטּ֖וֹת וַחֲצִ֣י הַמַּטֶּ֑ה לָקְח֣וּ נַחֲלָתָ֗ם מֵעֵ֛בֶר לְיַרְדֵּ֥ן יְרֵח֖וֹ קֵ֥דְמָה מִזְרָֽחָה	15		Two branches and a half branch, they have received their inheritance from beyond Jordan by Jericho eastward toward the sunrise.	3d	4B	11 20
וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר	16		And spoke Yahweh to Moses, saying,	3e	3g	10
אֵ֚לֶּה שְׁמ֣וֹת הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־יִנְחֲל֥וּ לָכֶ֖ם אֶת־הָאָ֑רֶץ אֶלְעָזָר֙ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וִיהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ בִּן־נֽוּן	17	C	These are the names of the persons that will inherit for you the land, Eleazar the priest and Joshua child of Nun.	3e	4C	19 12
וְנָשִׂ֥יא אֶחָ֛ד נָשִׂ֥יא אֶחָ֖ד מִמַּטֶּ֑ה תִּקְח֖וּ לִנְחֹ֥ל אֶת־הָאָֽרֶץ	18		And one principal, one principal per branch, you will take to inherit the land.	3d	4A	12 8
וְאֵ֖לֶּה שְׁמ֣וֹת הָאֲנָשִׁ֑ים לְמַטֵּ֣ה יְהוּדָ֔ה כָּלֵ֖ב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּֽה	19		And these are the names of the persons, of the branch of Judah, Caleb child of Jepunah.	3e	4B	9 12
וּלְמַטֵּה֙ בְּנֵ֣י שִׁמְע֔וֹן שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל בֶּן־עַמִּיהֽוּד	20		And of the branch of the children of Simeon, Samuel child of Ammihud.	3e	4B	14
לְמַטֵּ֣ה בִנְיָמִ֔ן אֱלִידָ֖ד בֶּן־כִּסְלֽוֹן	21		Of the branch of Benjamin, Elidad child of Kaselun.	3e	4B	12
וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵי־דָ֖ן נָשִׂ֑יא בֻּקִּ֖י בֶּן־יָגְלִֽי	22		And of the branch of the children of Dan, principal, Buqi child of Yogli.	3e	4A	8 5
לִבְנֵ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף לְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־מְנַשֶּׁ֖ה נָשִׂ֑יא חַנִּיאֵ֖ל בֶּן־אֵפֹֽד	23		For the children of Joseph of the branch of the children of Manasseh, principal, Xanniel child of Ephod.	3e	4B	14 6
וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־אֶפְרַ֖יִם נָשִׂ֑יא קְמוּאֵ֖ל בֶּן־שִׁפְטָֽן	24		And of the branch of the children of Ephraim, principal, Qemuel child of Shiphtan.	3e	4A	9 6

וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־יִשָׂשכָ֖ר נָשִׂ֑יא פַּלְטִיאֵ֖ל בֶּן־עַזָּֽן	26		And of the branch of the children of Issachar, principal, Paltiel child of Azzan.	3e	4A	9 6

וּלְמַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־נַפְתָּלִ֖י נָשִׂ֑יא פְּדַהְאֵ֖ל בֶּן־עַמִּיהֽוּד	28		And of the branch of the children of Naphtali, principal, Pedahel child of Ammihud.	3e	4A	10 7
אֵ֕לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֖ר צִוָּ֣ה יְהוָ֑ה לְנַחֵ֥ל אֶת־בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּאֶ֥רֶץ כְּנָֽעַן	29	~	These are whom Yahweh commanded, to inherit for the children of Israel in the land of Canaan.	3e	4B	8 15
