א למנצ֬ח לבני־ק֬רח מזמֽור9

2 Hear this all peoples.
Lend an ear all those who sit as transients. (1-4-1)
ב שמעו־ז֭את כל־הֽעמ֑ים
ה֝אז֗ינו כל־י֥שבי חֽלד

3 Hey! children of humanity, ho! children, each one of you,
together, rich or needy, (1-4-1)
ג גם־בנ֣י א֭דם גם־בני־א֑יש
י֝֗חד עש֥יר ואביֽון

4 ♪g my mouth will speak shrewd things,
and the musing of my heart understanding. (g-1-4-1)

5 I will bend to a parable my ear.
I will open my riddle on a harp. (1-4-1)

6 ♪B Why should I fear these days of evil?
The iniquity of my footprints surrounds me: (B-1-4-1)
ו ל֣מה א֭ירא ב֣ימי ר֑ע

7 those who trust in their wealth,
and boast in their abundant riches. (1-4-1)
ז הבטח֥ים על־חיל֑ם
ובר֥ב ע֝שר֗ם יתהלֽלו

8 ♪~ A sibling's ransom can no one of you ransom,
nor give to God the cover-price. (~1-4-1)
ח א֗ח לא־פד֣ה יפד֣ה א֑יש

9 ♪g So precious is their self-ransom. Either it terminates forever, (g-1-1)
ט ו֭יקר פדי֥ון נפש֗ם וחד֥ל לעולֽם13

10 or lives on and on...
It will not see the destruction. (1-4-1)
י וֽיחי־ע֥וד לנ֑צח
ל֖א ירא֣ה השֽחת

11 ♪C Because it sees the shrewd die, together, as a dullard and a brute perish,
and their wealth is forsaken to whoever follows. (C-1-4-1)
יא כ֤י ירא֨ה חכ֘מ֤ים ימ֗ותו י֤חד כס֣יל וב֣ער יאב֑דו
ועזב֖ו לאחר֣ים חילֽם

vyzbu lakrim kilm
12 As far as they are concerned, their houses are forever, their dwellings from generation to generation.
They call dust-bowls by their names. (1-4-1)
יב קרב֤ם בת֨ימו לֽעול֗ם מ֭שכנתם לד֣ר וד֑ר
קֽרא֥ו ב֝שמות֗ם על֣י אדמֽות

13 But the human in preciousness doesn't stick around.
Proverbial as beasts, they are undone. (1-4-1)
יג ואד֣ם ב֭יקר בל־יל֑ין
נמש֖ל כבהמ֣ות נדמֽו

14 ♪B This their way is their folly,
yet those who follow them find favour in their mouthing. Selah. (B-1-4-1)
יד ז֣ה ד֭רכם כ֣סל ל֑מו
ואחריה֓ם בפיה֖ם ירצ֣ו סֽלה

15 Like sheep in the grave they are thrust. Death will pasture them.
And the upright will rule them in the morning, and their fortification will fade, grave from its residence. (1-2-1)
טו כצ֤אן לֽשא֣ול שתו֮ מ֤ות י֫רע֥ם
וירד֘ו ב֤ם ישר֨ים לב֗קר ו֭צורם לבל֥ות שא֗ול מזב֥ל לֽו

16 Surely God will ransom me from the hand of the grave,
for he will take me. Selah. (1-4-1)
טז אך־אלה֗ים יפד֣ה נ֭פשי מֽיד־שא֑ול
כ֖י יקח֣ני סֽלה

Tz aç-alohim ipdh npwi mid-waol

17 Do not fear when someone becomes rich,
for the increase of the glory of his house. (1-4-1)
יז אל־ת֭ירא כֽי־יעש֣ר א֑יש
כֽי־י֝רבה כב֣וד ביתֽו

18 ♪C For in his death he will not take it all.
His glory will not descend after him. (C-1-4-1)
יח כ֤י ל֣א ב֭מותו יק֣ח הכ֑ל
לא־יר֖ד אחר֣יו כבודֽו

19 For he blessed himself in his life,

and they will thank you when you do well for yourself. (1-4-1)
יט כֽי־נ֭פשו בחי֣יו יבר֑ך
ו֝יוד֗ך כי־תיט֥יב לֽך

20 ♪g He will go to the generation of his ancestors.
For ever in perpetuity they will not see light. (g-1-4-1)
