Isaiah 30

I wrote the prior post on verse 1 before I had fully read this chapter. For a long time now I have stayed away from my New Testament roots. This perplexing concatenation of words needs a lot a teasing out.

Again JB writes in their notes that the Hebrew is unintelligible. Even the prophet implies that his words are not smooth. I am prepared to believe these scholars. So be prepared for something unintelligible. But imagine the juxtaposition of music with judgment, of rest with fire. Imagine deep and broad fire, prepared in advance as a seduction on behalf of the king, for his bride, the world. Yeah folks, its metaphor. Not without cost.

Hearing and seeing are a theme in Isaiah (v 20). Verse 26, again the euphemisms for moon and sun.

The song in the night (verse 29) reflects Psalm 42, a phrase from which my book was titled to reflect the music in the text  but it could be read as a whole offering in verse 29 (כליל) rather than in the night.

Ponder the contradictions, the juxtapositions of music and fire. Let us step through the fire and govern well, and insist that our governments do not build and prepare prisons and walls, but rather provide space for the exercise of the compassion of the people. If the Christians cannot figure this out, they should stay in the fire. Let them be part of the timber that was prepared for their king.

1 B Ah rebellious children, an oracle of Yahweh, to do counsel, but not from me, to spill out a libation, but not my spirit,
so as to add sin on sin.

2 They are going to descend to Egypt, but my mandate they have not asked,
to strengthen themselves with the strength of Pharaoh, and to take refuge in the shade of Egypt.

3 And it will be that for you, the strength of Pharaoh is to your shame,
and the refuge in the shade of Egypt, humiliation.

In the land of trouble and distress, (great cat and codger cat are from them, asp and flying seraph) they will lift up on the shoulder of foals their wealth, and on the humps of camels their treasuries, to a people of no use.

23 And he will grant the rain of your seed that you will sow in the ground, and bread, the income of the ground, and it will be fat and stout.
your livestock will pasture in that day in a broad meadow.

that has been winnowed with fragrance and with pitchfork.

26 And the light of the white will become as the light of the warmth, and the light of the warmth will be seven times the light of seven days,
in the day that Yahweh binds the shattering of his people, and the wound of his defeat, heals.
3e 4C 29

28 And his spirit like a torrent overflowing, will reach half way up a neck, a wave offering of nations elevated in vain,
and a bridle from wandering, on the cheeks of the peoples.

11

29 The song will be yours as in the night of a holy festive sacrifice,
and gladness of heart, as one goes with a flute to enter to the hill of Yahweh, to the rock of Israel.
3e 4B 12
22
30 And Yahweh will make the splendour of his voice heard and the repose of his arm he will show, in the outrage of the anger, and the flame of a consuming fire,
smashing, and inundation, and hailstone.
3e 4C 29
10

31 For from the voice of Yahweh Ashur will be dismayed.
He will strike with the sceptre.

32 And anyone passing through the rod of the foundation to whom Yahweh has given rest, will be with timbrels and harps.
And with battles of a wave offering, he fights with them.
3e 4C 28
10

33 For seduction was previously arranged, even this for the king, prepared, deep, broad,
from a generation of fire and much timber. The breath of Yahweh, like a torrent of pitch, kindles it.
