This weekend I came across Shillebeeckx book Jesus, An Experiment in Christology - I read some large chunks and really like the way he deals with these questions. I'm not sure that anything will definitely explain what we all search to understand -- the essence of God -- we just struggle along, finding this bit and that bit, teasing the pieces together, and if we had a few centuries we would still not attain our end.
