Presence #Messiah texts Haggai 2:6-7, Malachi 3:1

The libretto in this section omits the filling of the house with glory, (Haggai 2:7b) and joins the two prophets together, omitting also the first phrase of Malachi, using the words of Haggai as a preparation for Malachi.
Haggai 2:6
5. Accompagnato (Bass) – Thus saith the Lord, the Lord of hosts: Yet once, a little while and I will shake the heavens and the earth, the sea, and the dry land. And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come. The Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.

6 ♪B Because thus says Yahweh of Hosts, yet once, a little it is,
and I, myself, from the quaking of the heavens and the earth and the sea and the desert,

Note that verse 6 is following from verse 5 (the opening note tells you). Perhaps continuing the instruction: do not fear.
Haggai 2:7
וְהִרְעַשְׁתִּי֙ אֶת־כָּל־הַגּוֹיִ֔ם וּבָ֖אוּ חֶמְדַּ֣ת כָּל־הַגּוֹיִ֑ם

7 and I will make all the nations quake, and the one coveted of all the nations will come,
[and I will fill this house with glory, says Yahweh of Hosts.]

Malachi 3:1

הִנְנִ֤י שֹׁלֵחַ֙ מַלְאָכִ֔י וּפִנָּה־דֶ֖רֶךְ לְפָנָ֑י

[1 Behold me, I will send my messenger, and he will face a journey before me.]
And suddenly he will come to his temple, the Lord whom you are seeking, and the messenger of the covenant whom you delight in. Behold he comes, says Yahweh of hosts.

A curious coincidence. The Solemn Eucharist for the Presentation of Christ in the Temple was sung today at York Minster. The lesson for the day is Malachi 3.
