2 Chronicles 32

God forsook him! Poor Hezekiah, not the last of God's servants to be forsaken. To know what was in his heart.

Was I careful enough here with God and gods? To associate the one with a singular verb or a plural verb? Just note that there is no difference in the nouns that could let us know who thinks what about each. When does the play of many become one?

Here is another example of disaster for the next generation and riches in the current. I wonder what we might learn from such examples. Not much, it seems.

2 Chronicles 32 Fn Min Max Syll
1 After these truthful matters, Senacherib king of Ashur came.
And he entered Judah, and encamped against the enclosed cities, and said he would split them for himself.
3e 4C 21
24
2 And Hezekiah saw that Senacherib had come,
and his presence was for war against Jerusalem.
3e 4A 11
12
3 And he took counsel with his nobles and his valiant to block the water of the springs that were outside of the city.
And they helped him.
3e 4B 26
5
4 And many people collected themselves, and they blocked all the springs, and the wadi that overflowed in the midst of the land, saying,
Why should the kings of Ashur come and find many waters?
3d 4C 31
15
5 And he was resolved, and built up all the wall that was breached, and he went up to the towers, and on the outside, the other wall. And he revamped Millo, the city of David,
and he made javelin in abundance and shields.
3d 4B 43
11
6 And he assigned the chiefs of battles over the people,
and he rallied them to him at the plaza of the gate of the city, and he spoke to their heart, saying,
3d 4B 11
22
7 Be courageous and be assured. Do not fear and do not be in disarray from the presence of the king of Ashur, or from the presence of all the tumult that is with him,
because much more is with us than is with him.
3e 4B 31
7
8 With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is Yahweh our God, to help us, and to fight our battles.
And the people were supported by the words of Hezekiah, king of Judah.
3e 4C 30
19
9 B Following this, Senacherib king of Ashur sent his servants to Jerusalem, (but he to Lachish and all his governance with him),
against Hezekiah, king of Judah, and against all Judah that is in Jerusalem, saying,
3d 4C 32
25
10 B Thus says Senacherib king of Ashur,
In what are you trusting that you are seated in the siege in Jerusalem?
3e 4B 10
16
11 Does not Hezekiah persuade you to permit yourselves to die hungry and thirsty, saying,
Yahweh our God will deliver us from the palm of the king of Ashur?
3d 4C 25
16
12 Has not he Hezekiah put aside his high places and his altars,
and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, saying, Before one altar you will worship, and on it you will burn incense?
3c 4C 19
30
13 Do you not know what I have done, I and my ancestors, to all the peoples of the lands?
Were they able, the gods of the nations of the lands, to deliver their land from my hands?
3e 4C 22
23
14 ~ Who is among all the gods of these nations, that my ancestors did not utterly destroy, who could deliver his people from my hands,
that your God would be able to deliver you from my hands?
3e 4C 34
15
15 So now, do not let Hezekiah lure you nor persuade you such as this, nor should you believe him, for no God is able, of any nation or kingdom, to deliver his people from my hands or from the hand of my ancestors.
Indeed for your gods, they will not deliver you from my hands.
3d 4C 55
13
16 And still his servants spoke against Yahweh God,
and against Hezekiah his servant.
3e 4B 14
9
17 And he wrote correspondence to reproach Yahweh the God of Israel,
and pronouncing against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of the lands that did not deliver their people from my hands, so the God of Hezekiah will not deliver his people from my hands.
3c 4C 16
42
18 And they called with a great voice in Judean against the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to make them fearful and to vex them,
so that they might conquer the city.
3e 4C 30
9
19 And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem,
as over the gods of the peoples of the land, a deed of the hands of humanity.
3e 4B 11
18
20 And Hezekiah the king prayed, and Isaiah child of Amoz, the prophet, over this,
and they appealed to the heavens.
3c 4B 24
8
21 And Yahweh sent a messenger, and he concealed all of valour and ability, and herald, and chief in the camp of the king of Ashur.
So he returned, ashamed of face, to his land, and he entered the house of his God. And one who had come forth from his inner parts, there felled him by the sword.
3e 4C 28
32
22 So Yahweh saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Senacherib king of Ashur, and from the hand of all.
And he refreshed them on every side.
3d 4B 32
7
23 ~ And many brought a gift for Yahweh to Jerusalem, and things of quality to Hezekiah king of Judah.
And he was lifted up in the sight of all the nations afterward, thus.
3d 4C 28
16
24 In those days Hezekiah was ill to the point of death.
And he prayed to Yahweh, and he talked to him, and a portent he gave him.
3e 4B 15
17
25 But not according to the reward for him, did Hezekiah restore, for haughty was his heart.
And there was against him rage, and against Judah and Jerusalem.
3e 4C 18
15
26 But Hezekiah subdued himself in the haughtiness of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
And the rage of Yahweh not did come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
3e 4C 22
16
27 And Hezekiah had riches, and very abundant glory.
And treasuries he constructed for himself, for silver, and for gold, and for precious stone, and for spices, and for shields, and for all attractive articles,
3c 4B 16
33
28 And storerooms for the income of grain, and new wine, and clarified oil,
and corrals for every beast, and cattle, and troops to corral.
3e 4B 15
20
29 And cities he constructed for himself, and acquired sheep and oxen in abundance,
for God had given him property in excessive abundance.
3e 4C 15
12
30 And he, Hezekiah, blocked the emerging of the waters of Gihon, the upper part, and brought it straight downward from the westward of the city of David.
And Hezekiah prospered in all his deeds.
3e 4C 32
14
31 And thus he gratified the chiefs of Babel who were sent to him to search out the portent that was in the land. God forsook him to prove him,
to know all that was in his heart.
3e 4C 33
11
32 And the remaining words of Hezekiah and his kindnesses,
behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah, child of Amoz, the prophet, in the record of the kings of Judah and Israel.
3d 4C 14
30
33 And Hezekiah was laid out with his ancestors, and they entombed him the upper tombs of the children of David, and gloriously they did for him in his death, all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
