Ezekiel 45

This remains perplexing. Verse 7 is a real mouthful. It doesn't matter what translation you read it in! The preposition לעמות contains the common preposition עם, but has a plural or construct ending and a prefix. BDB has its sense under the stem עמה. Perhaps it is related to עמם in the sense of being dimmed by juxtaposition. It is used mostly in Ezekiel and Exodus perhaps as a technical term related to the design of the temple and its surroundings.

Two other phrases we have seen that appear to contain little but perhaps represent a descriptive gesture, מזה ומזה, where most translations interpolate the word side, and אל פני, which I have rendered below as facing.

Verse 8 probably has the sense that the principal will hold land in Israel. No absentee landlord. The verse seems to imply a redistribution of land. This is confirmed by the verses following but the use of רום, normally a positive word, in a negative fashion is unique (so far - but we have come quite far now).

Verse 12 - When is מנה used as a technical unit of measurement and when is it just a portion?  NIV seems to imply that these three numbers are added to make 1 portion. Why would anyone do this? Why not just say three-score or 60? Or is the prophet assuming that the portion was not well defined.

Verse 14 - no way! JB has one bath out of every ten baths or out of every cor (which is equal to ten baths or one homer, since ten baths equal one homer.)  I am mystified. OUP has a useful table.

Who are the principals נשא? The ones who lift up נשא? About (על) them are the offerings, and who also do the offerings... Note the rationale for the offerings is to make a cover price for the material reality symbolized by the altar and the house.

The final verse is a summary of the same rules for the feast of the seventh month, as if one had no need of a second list of instructions. With respect to dates, (verses 18 and 25) the word for month is assumed.
