2 Kings 11

This text is parallel to the prior post, 2 Chronicles 23. It was guessed at only 75%. The text of this chapter has a verse that JB omits because the Hebrew seems so corrupt. LXX omits the oddest word. For מסח I picked נסח as the stem referring to the house with the child king in it, a tempting מסה target for the renegade queen mother. When one reads the KJV in some of these texts, it is no wonder that one's 20th and 21st century eyes glaze over.

וַיְצַוֵּ֣ם לֵאמֹ֔ר זֶ֥ה הַדָּבָ֖ר אֲשֶׁ֣ר תַּעֲשׂ֑וּן הַשְּׁלִשִׁ֤ית מִכֶּם֙ בָּאֵ֣י הַשַּׁבָּ֔ת וְשֹׁ֣מְרֵ֔י מִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת בֵּ֥ית הַמֶּֽלֶךְ	5		And commanded them, saying, This is the thing which you will do, The third of you will come on duty on the Sabbath and keep the watch of the house of the king.	3e	4C	14 20
וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁית֙ בְּשַׁ֣עַר ס֔וּר וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁ֥ית בַּשַּׁ֖עַר אַחַ֣ר הָרָצִ֑ים וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֛ם אֶת־מִשְׁמֶ֥רֶת הַבַּ֖יִת מַסָּֽח	6		And the third at the gate of Sur, and the third at the gate behind the footmen, and you keep the watch of the house to be extirpated.	3d	4B	20 12
וּשְׁתֵּ֤י הַיָּדוֹת֙ בָּכֶ֔ם כֹּ֖ל יֹצְאֵ֣י הַשַּׁבָּ֑ת וְשָֽׁמְר֛וּ אֶת־מִשְׁמֶ֥רֶת בֵּית־יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־הַמֶּֽלֶךְ	7		And both hands among you all who are on duty on the Sabbath, that they keep the watch of the house of Yahweh for the king.	3d	4C	13 14
וְהִקַּפְתֶּ֨ם עַל־הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ סָבִ֗יב אִ֚ישׁ וְכֵלָ֣יו בְּיָד֔וֹ וְהַבָּ֥א אֶל־הַשְּׂדֵר֖וֹת יוּמָ֑ת וִהְי֥וּ אֶת־הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ בְּצֵאת֥וֹ וּבְבֹאֽוֹ	8		And you will encompass the king round about, each his instruments in his hand, and who comes to the slats will be put to death. And they will be with the king when he goes out and when he comes in.	3e	4C	26 12
וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֞וּ שָׂרֵ֣י הַמֵּא֗וֹת כְּכֹ֣ל אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּה֮ יְהוֹיָדָ֣ע הַכֹּהֵן֒ וַיִּקְחוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ אֶת־אֲנָשָׁ֔יו בָּאֵ֣י הַשַּׁבָּ֔ת עִ֖ם יֹצְאֵ֣י הַשַּׁבָּ֑ת וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ אֶל־יְהוֹיָדָ֥ע הַכֹּהֵֽן	9		And the chiefs of the hundreds did everything that Jehoiada the priest commanded, and they each took his men that were to come on duty on the Sabbath with those going off duty on the Sabbath, and they came to Jehoiada the priest.	3e	4B	41 11
וַיִּתֵּ֨ן הַכֹּהֵ֜ן לְשָׂרֵ֣י הַמֵּא֗וֹת אֶֽת־הַחֲנִית֙ וְאֶת־הַשְּׁלָטִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר לַמֶּ֣לֶךְ דָּוִ֑ד אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּבֵ֥ית יְהוָֽה	10		And the priest gave to the chiefs of hundreds, spears, and the escutcheons that had belonged to the king David, that were in the house of Yahweh.	3e	4B	28 6
וַיַּעַמְד֨וּ הָרָצִ֜ים אִ֣ישׁ ׀ וְכֵלָ֣יו בְּיָד֗וֹ מִכֶּ֨תֶף הַבַּ֤יִת הַיְמָנִית֙ עַד־כֶּ֤תֶף הַבַּ֙יִת֙ הַשְּׂמָאלִ֔ית לַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ וְלַבָּ֑יִת עַל־הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ סָבִֽיב	11		And the footmen stood, soldier and his instruments in his hand, from the right hand shoulder of the house to the left hand shoulder of the house, to the altar and to the house, by the king round about.	3e	4C	40 6
וַיּוֹצִ֣א אֶת־בֶּן־הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ וַיִּתֵּ֤ן עָלָיו֙ אֶת־הַנֵּ֙זֶר֙ וְאֶת־הָ֣עֵד֔וּת וַיַּמְלִ֥כוּ אֹת֖וֹ וַיִּמְשָׁחֻ֑הוּ וַיַּכּוּ־כָ֔ף וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ יְחִ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ	12		And he brought out the child of the king, and positioned over him the consecration and the testimony, and they made him king and anointed him. and they struck a palm and they said, May the king live.	3e	4C	33 12
וַתִּשְׁמַ֣ע עֲתַלְיָ֔ה אֶת־ק֥וֹל הָֽרָצִ֖ין הָעָ֑ם וַתָּבֹ֥א אֶל־הָעָ֖ם בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה	13		And Ataliah heard the voice of the footmen, the people, and she came to the people into the house of Yahweh.	3e	4B	13 9
וַתֵּ֡רֶא וְהִנֵּ֣ה הַמֶּלֶךְ֩ עֹמֵ֨ד עַֽל־הָעַמּ֜וּד כַּמִּשְׁפָּ֗ט וְהַשָּׂרִ֤ים וְהַחֲצֹֽצְרוֹת֙ אֶל־הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְכָל־עַ֤ם הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ שָׂמֵ֔חַ וְתֹקֵ֖עַ בַּחֲצֹֽצְר֑וֹת וַתִּקְרַ֤ע עֲתַלְיָה֙ אֶת־בְּגָדֶ֔יהָ וַתִּקְרָ֖א קֶ֥שֶׁר קָֽשֶׁר	14		And she saw, and behold the king standing by the pillar, according to the framework, and the nobles and the trumpets by the king, and all the people of the land glad, and they sounded the trumpets, and Ataliah ripped her garments and proclaimed, Collusion. וַיְצַו֩ יְהוֹיָדָ֨ע הַכֹּהֵ֜ן אֶת־שָׂרֵ֥י הַמֵּא֣וֹת ׀ פְּקֻדֵ֣י הַחַ֗יִל וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם֙ הוֹצִ֤יאוּ אֹתָהּ֙ אֶל־מִבֵּ֣ית לַשְּׂדֵרֹ֔ת וְהַבָּ֥א אַחֲרֶ֖יהָ הָמֵ֣ת בֶּחָ֑רֶב כִּ֚י אָמַ֣ר הַכֹּהֵ֔ן אַל־תּוּמַ֖ת בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה	15		And Jehoiada the priest commanded the chiefs of the hundreds, the officers of the force, and he said to them, Have her brought out to the house, to the slats, and who comes following her, put to death by the sword, because, said the priest, she is not to be put to death in the house of Yahweh.	3e	4C	50 12
וַיָּשִׂ֤מוּ לָהּ֙ יָדַ֔יִם וַתָּב֛וֹא דֶּֽרֶךְ־מְב֥וֹא הַסּוּסִ֖ים בֵּ֣ית הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַתּוּמַ֖ת שָֽׁם	16		And they laid hands on her and when she had entered the way of the going down of the horses of the house of the king, they put her to death there.	3d	4C	21 4
וַיִּכְרֹ֨ת יְהוֹיָדָ֜ע אֶֽת־הַבְּרִ֗ית בֵּ֤ין יְהוָה֙ וּבֵ֤ין הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ וּבֵ֣ין הָעָ֔ם לִהְי֥וֹת לְעָ֖ם לַֽיהוָ֑ה וּבֵ֥ין הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ וּבֵ֥ין הָעָֽם	17		And Jehoiada cut a covenant between Yahweh and the king and the people, to be the people of Yahweh, and between the king and the people.	3e	4C	28 9
וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ כָל־עַם֩ הָאָ֨רֶץ בֵּית־הַבַּ֜עַל וַֽיִּתְּצֻ֗הוּ אֶת־מִזְבְּחֹתָ֤יו וְאֶת־צְלָמָיו֙ שִׁבְּר֣וּ הֵיטֵ֔ב וְאֵ֗ת מַתָּן֙ כֹּהֵ֣ן הַבַּ֔עַל הָרְג֖וּ לִפְנֵ֣י הַֽמִּזְבְּח֑וֹת וַיָּ֧שֶׂם הַכֹּהֵ֛ן פְּקֻדּ֖וֹת עַל־בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה	18		And all the people of the land entered the house of the Baal and broke it down. Its altars and its images they broke for good, and Mattan, a priest of the Baal, they slew before the altars. And the priest set officers over the house of Yahweh.	3c	4C	47 13
וַיִּקַּ֣ח אֶת־שָׂרֵ֣י הַ֠מֵּאוֹת וְאֶת־הַכָּרִ֨י וְאֶת־הָרָצִ֜ים וְאֵ֣ת ׀ כָּל־עַ֣ם הָאָ֗רֶץ וַיֹּרִ֤ידוּ אֶת־הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ מִבֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֔ה וַיָּב֛וֹאוּ דֶּֽרֶך־שַׁ֥עַר הָרָצִ֖ים בֵּ֣ית הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב עַל־כִּסֵּ֥א הַמְּלָכִֽים	19		And he took the chiefs of hundreds, and the Karians, and the footmen, and all the people of the land, and they brought the king down from the house of Yahweh, and they entered by way of the gate of the footmen into the house of the king, and he sat on the throne of the kings.	3d	4C	53 9
וַיִּשְׂמַ֥ח כָּל־עַם־הָאָ֖רֶץ וְהָעִ֣יר שָׁקָ֑טָה וְאֶת־עֲתַלְיָ֛הוּ הֵמִ֥יתוּ בַחֶ֖רֶב בֵּ֥ית הַמֶּֽלֶךְ	20		And all the people of the land were glad and the city was quiet, and Ataliah they put to death by the sword in the house of the king.	3d	4B	14 16
