2 Chronicles 35

This sounds like a humdinger of a party, this massive Passover. The language seemed different and I almost got so stuck, I was going to start another chapter. (I do this sometimes, a verse at a time here and there, testing out how difficult the chapter will be.) It seemed to me that the use of construct was less than usual, lots of the 'of' constructions being spelled out with the preposition ל rather than being implicit.

Here we meet Asaph and Jeduthun and Heyman, all mentioned in the inscriptions of Psalms. And the emphasis is certainly on the Levites as being very busy. While the text in versions says roasted, the Hebrew very clearly has boiled in the fire. That's what's there - but without a container, of course you can read roasted. The verbs are clearly different in Exodus 12 (boil בשׁל and roast צלה) but they are not distinguished here - it is בשׁל both times in verse 13.

I had missed a verse in this chapter. So the total word count went up by 10.

Entanglement is a bit of an accident, but it is quite appropriate as a gloss, for families are indeed entangled like elementary particles and like all humanity today. It is פלג the stem for stream. (Psalm 1).

וַיֹּרוּ֙ הַיֹּרִ֔ים לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ יֹאשִׁיָּ֑הוּ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ לַעֲבָדָיו֙ הַעֲבִיר֔וּנִי כִּ֥י הָחֳלֵ֖יתִי מְאֹֽד	23		And the archers shot at the king Josiah. And the king said to his servant, Have me transferred, for I am very ill.	3e	4C	13 22
וַיַּֽעֲבִירֻ֨הוּ עֲבָדָ֜יו מִן־הַמֶּרְכָּבָ֗ה וַֽיַּרְכִּיבֻהוּ֮ עַ֣ל רֶ֣כֶב הַמִּשְׁנֶה֮ אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ֒ וַיּוֹלִיכֻ֙הוּ֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם וַיָּ֕מָת וַיִּקָּבֵ֖ר בְּקִבְר֣וֹת אֲבֹתָ֑יו וְכָל־יְהוּדָה֙ וִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם מִֽתְאַבְּלִ֖ים עַל־יֹאשִׁיָּֽהוּ	24		And his servants transferred him from the chariot and had him ride in the second chariot that he had, and led him to Jerusalem and he died. And he was entombed in the tombs of his ancestors. And all Judah and Jerusalem lamented over Josiah.	3e	4B	50 17
וַיְקוֹנֵ֣ן יִרְמְיָהוּ֮ עַל־יֹאשִׁיָּהוּ֒ וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ כָֽל־הַשָּׁרִ֣ים ׀ וְ֠הַשָּׁרוֹת בְּקִינ֨וֹתֵיהֶ֤ם עַל־יֹאשִׁיָּ֙הוּ֙ עַד־הַיּ֔וֹם וַיִּתְּנ֥וּם לְחֹ֖ק עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְהִנָּ֥ם כְּתוּבִ֖ים עַל־הַקִּינֽוֹת	25		And Jeremiah sang an elegy concerning Josiah, and all the male singers and the female singers talk in their elegies about Josiah to this day, and they made them for a statute over Israel, and behold them, written over the elegies.	3e	4C	45 10
וְיֶ֛תֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י יֹאשִׁיָּ֖הוּ וַחֲסָדָ֑יו כַּכָּת֖וּב בְּתוֹרַ֥ת יְהוָֽה	26		And the remaining words of Josiah and his kindnesses, are as written in the instruction of Yahweh.	3d	4A	13 8
