Isaiah 15

This, like the previous chapter, is part of a larger section in Isaiah of 'oracles' against the nations (chapters 13 to 23). There are similar sections in the other prophets. (Jeremiah 46-51, Ezekiel 25-32, and lesser sections in the 12, Joel 4, Amos 1, Obadiah against Edom, Zephaniah 2).

How much more liberal a reading might be.

Isaiah 15 Fn Min Max Syll
1 A load about Moab,
for in the night Ar is devastated, Moab is muted, for in the night Qyr is devastated, Moab is muted.

2 Ascend to Bayit and Dibon, the high places, to weep.
Over Nebo and over Medeba, Moab will howl. On all their heads baldness, every beard chopped.

3 In its streets they will wear sackcloth.
Over the housetops and in her plazas, everyone will howl, will descend weeping.

4 And Heshbon will appeal and El-Alah, to Jahats their voice is heard.
So the ready-armed of Moab will raise a shout, its integrity irritated for itself.

5 My heart for Moab will appeal. Her cross-beams to Zoar, (a calf of three).
For the ascent of Luhith, with weeping they will ascend by it. For the way of Xoranim, a shattering appeal they will arouse.

6 For the waters of Nimrim are desolate.
For dried up is grass, consumed is vegetation. There is no foliage.

7 So surplus he made,
and what they have conscripted, over the wadi of the willows, they lift them up.

8 For the appeal has encompassed the border of Moab.
To Eglaim her howling, and to the well of rams, her howling.
3e 4B 11
13
9 B For the waters of Dimon are full of blood, for I will impose over Dimon again,
for those who are secure of Moab, a lion, and to the residue of the ground.
