Exodus 14

This is a carefully told story. It is about salvation and the radical and complete job that the Lord has done to separate the sinner from the world that would enslave it. Egypt too must know so all 'the world' can be relieved of the failures we impose on each other and ourselves. It is a good thing to be told there is not a trace of our internal enemies, for it is very clear that this is a fiction, but if you believe it rightly with the power not of self-deception, but of confidence in the hidden mystery who is 'Husband of Treasures'. Again I am playfully translating (by chance) some of the foreign names. Glory = heaviness (כבד).

My impositions now are stranger than they were at the beginning. It is as if I have constrained my language and can only chose from the already somewhat non-overlapping but extensive lists I have created for each stem. Even with my strict rules, the exceptions seem to cover nearly half the whole puzzle, because some of them are very heavily used words and our meanings overlap in all ways in both languages. And of course there are the pervasive prepositions, never well behaved. But I will persist in the rules lest I give in entirely to theological prejudice.

Exodus 14 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 3e 3g 11
2 Speak to the children of Israel that they turn and encamp before the Mouth of the Holes, between Migdol and the sea,
before the Husband of Treasures. Opposite it, you will encamp towards the sea.
3e 4B 29
14
3 So Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, Perplexed they are in the land.
The wilderness has imprisoned them.
3e 4C 17
8
4 And I will make the heart of Pharaoh resolute, and he will pursue after them, and I will be glorified in Pharaoh and in all his force and Egypt will know that I am Yahweh.
And they did so.
3e 4C 35
5
5 And it was told the king of Egypt that the people had run away,
and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was changed against the people and they said, What is this we have done? For we have dismissed Israel from serving us.
3e 4C 13
34
6 And he strapped his chariot,
and with him he took his people.
3e 4A 6
8
7 And he took six hundred chosen chariot and all the chariot of Egypt,
and adjutants over every one.
3e 4B 17
7
8 And Yahweh made resolute the heart of Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel,
and the children of Israel emerged with hand lifted high.
3e 4C 25
11
9 And Egypt pursued after them and they overtook them encamped at the sea, every horse, chariot, Pharaoh and his cavaliers, and his force,
at the Mouth of the Holes before the Husband of Treasures.
3e 4C 34
11
10 And Pharaoh approached.
And the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, Egypt had pulled out after them, and they feared much, and the children of Israel cried out to Yahweh.
3e 4B 5
41
11 And they said to Moses, Were there no tombs in Egypt? Have you taken us to die in the wilderness?
What is this that you have done to us to bring us forth from Egypt?
3e 4C 25
16
12 Was not this the thing which we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, Leave us alone, and we will serve Egypt,
for it was better for us to serve Egypt than to die in the wilderness.
3e 4C 32
16
13 And Moses said to the people, Do not fear. Station yourselves and see the salvation of Yahweh that he will do for you today.
For that you see Egypt today, you will not see them again any more, for evermore.
3d 4C 32
22
14 Yahweh, he will fight for you,
and you yourselves will keep silent.
3e 4B 7
8
15 And Yahweh said to Moses, Why cry out to me?
Speak to the children of Israel that they pull out.
3e 4C 13
12
16 And you lift high your rod and stretch out your hand over the sea and split it in two.
And the children of Israel will go into the midst of the sea on dry land.
3c 4B 20
16
17 As for me, note me well making resolute the heart of Egypt, and they will come after them,
and I will be glorified in Pharaoh and in all his force with his chariots and his cavaliers.
3e 4C 19
18
18 And Egypt will know that I am Yahweh,
when I have my glory in Pharaoh with his chariots and his cavaliers.
3e 4B 10
14
19 So the messenger of God pulled out, who walked before the army of Israel, and went behind them,
and the pillar of cloud pulled out from before their face and stood behind them.
3e 4C 28
20
20 And came between the army of Egypt and the army of Israel. And it was the cloud and the darkness, and it lit up the night,
and this one did not come near to this other all the night long.
3d 4C 33
11
21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. Yahweh made go the sea back by the strong wind of the east all the night long, and set the sea as a desert,
and the waters were split in two.
3e 4C 39
7
22 And the children of Israel went in the midst of the sea on dry land,
and the waters for them were a wall on their right hand and on their left.
3c 4C 16
14
23 And Egypt pursued and they went after them, every horse, Pharaoh, his chariot, and his cavaliers,
into the centre of the sea.
3e 4C 23
4
24 And it happened in the watch of the morning, that Yahweh leaned over to look to the army of Egypt, through the pillar of fire and the cloud,
and he confused the army of Egypt.
3e 4C 27
10
25 And he turned aside the wheel of his chariots, and they drove it with heaviness,
and Egypt said, Let us withdraw from the face of Israel for Yahweh fights for them against Egypt.
3e 4C 18
25
26 And Yahweh said to Moses, Stretch out your hand over the sea.
And the waters will return over Egypt, over its chariot and over its cavaliers.
3e 4C 16
17
27 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned in the face of the morning to its perennial state, and Egypt withdrew from the encounter,
and Yahweh tossed Egypt into the midst of the sea.
3c 4B 31
12
28 And the waters returned and covered the chariot, and the cavalry, for all the force of Pharaoh, those who came after them in the sea.
There was not one trace of them any more.
3e 4C 33
8
29 But the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea,
and the waters were for them a wall on their right hand and on their left.
3c 4C 15
14
30 And Yahweh saved, in that day, Israel, from the hand of Egypt,
and Israel saw Egypt dead by the bank of the sea.
3d 4C 18
14
31 And Israel saw the great hand by which Yahweh dealt with Egypt, and the people feared Yahweh,
and they believed in Yahweh and in Moses his servant.
