On board

Comparing reds
A few images from on board activities - particularly a tour of the kitchen.

Generally speaking, my impressions of the cruise are positive. Every place we went was new to us. And being taken care of for 21 days is a pleasant indulgence, if a little too much food and drink.

Typically we would get back to the ship quite early for a 4:30 departure. We eventually decided on a fixed dinner hour at 8 pm. That gave us a lot of time for pre-dinner activity.

Our gin and tonic lasted almost the whole journey, and as it was running out, we interleaved the gin with Mai-Tai's at the crows-nest  happy hour - but it is very early, between 4 and 5, so for further pre-dinner activities, we might watch some of the excellent BBC films in our cabin by David Attenborough, or attend the Lincoln center concerts, all of which were well worth the time. They were at 6, 7, and 9. So sometimes we attended 2 of them on either side of dinner.

We went to the main stage a few times. The music there was generally too sensational and too loud even if the dancers and musicians were quite good. All the players had click tracks. There were two quite good sets of lectures at the main stage, two on astronomy and a series by BBC wildlife photographers and sound-recorders.
