2 Kings 13

The end of the story of Elisha. There seem to be some asides from the narrator. And nothing is made of the touching of the bones. This story must have had an effect on the issue of relics in the medieval world.

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַ֠יֵּלֶךְ אַחַ֨ר חַטֹּ֜את יָרָבְעָ֧ם בֶּן־נְבָ֛ט אֲשֶׁר־הֶחֱטִ֥יא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֹא־סָ֥ר מִמֶּֽנָּה	2		And he did evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and he walked after the sin of Jeroboam, child of Nabat, who made Israel to sin. He did not depart from it.	3c	4B	10 27
וַיִּֽחַר־אַ֥ף יְהוָ֖ה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֞ם בְּיַ֣ד ׀ חֲזָאֵ֣ל מֶֽלֶךְ־אֲרָ֗ם וּבְיַ֛ד בֶּן־הֲדַ֥ד בֶּן־חֲזָאֵ֖ל כָּל־הַיָּמִֽים	3		And the anger of Yahweh burned in Israel, and he gave them into the hand of Hazael, king of Aram, and into the hand of Ben-hadad, child of Hazael, every day.	3d	4B	10 25
וַיְחַ֥ל יְהוֹאָחָ֖ז אֶת־פְּנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע אֵלָיו֙ יְהוָ֔ה כִּ֤י רָאָה֙ אֶת־לַ֣חַץ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּֽי־לָחַ֥ץ אֹתָ֖ם מֶ֥לֶךְ אֲרָֽם	4		And Jehoahaz entreated before Yahweh, and Yahweh heard him for he saw the grip over Israel, for the king of Aram gripped them.	3e	4C	11 24
וַיִּתֵּ֨ן יְהוָ֤ה לְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מוֹשִׁ֔יעַ וַיֵּ֣צְא֔וּ מִתַּ֖חַת יַד־אֲרָ֑ם וַיֵּשְׁב֧וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל בְּאָהֳלֵיהֶ֖ם כִּתְמ֥וֹל שִׁלְשֽׁוֹם	5		And Yahweh gave to Israel a saviour, and they went forth from under the hand of the Aramaeans, and the children of Israel settled in their tents as in days gone by.	3c	4C	21 17
אַ֠ךְ לֹֽא־סָ֜רוּ מֵחַטֹּ֧אות בֵּית־יָרָבְעָ֛ם אֲשֶׁר־הֶחֱטִ֥יא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בָּ֣הּ הָלָ֑ךְ וְגַם֙ הָאֲשֵׁרָ֔ה עָמְדָ֖ה בְּשֹׁמְרֽוֹן	6	~	But they did not turn aside from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, with which he made Israel to sin, walking in it, and moreover, the fetish stands in Samaria.	3c	4B	23 11
כִּ֣י לֹא֩ הִשְׁאִ֨יר לִיהוֹאָחָ֜ז עָ֗ם כִּ֣י אִם־חֲמִשִּׁ֤ים פָּֽרָשִׁים֙ וַעֲשָׂ֣רָה רֶ֔כֶב וַעֲשֶׂ֥רֶת אֲלָפִ֖ים רַגְלִ֑י כִּ֤י אִבְּדָם֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אֲרָ֔ם וַיְשִׂמֵ֥ם כֶּֽעָפָ֖ר לָדֻֽשׁ	7	B	For he did not leave a residue of people to Jehoahaz, but fifty cavalry, and ten chariots, and ten thousand on foot, for the king of Aram had eliminated them and had rendered them as dust by pounding.	3e	4C	32 15
וְיֶ֨תֶר דִּבְרֵ֧י יְהוֹאָחָ֛ז וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָׂ֖ה וּגְבוּרָת֑וֹ הֲלוֹא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל	8		And the remaining words of Jehoahaz and all that he undertook and his valour, are they not written in the record of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?	3c	4B	19 20
וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב יְהֽוֹאָחָז֙ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו וַֽיִּקְבְּרֻ֖הוּ בְּשֹׁמְר֑וֹן וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ יוֹאָ֥שׁ בְּנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו	9		And Jehoahaz was laid out with his ancestors, and they entombed him in Samaria, and Joash his son reigned in his stead.	3d	4C	19 9
בִּשְׁנַ֨ת שְׁלֹשִׁ֤ים וָשֶׁ֙בַע֙ שָׁנָ֔ה לְיוֹאָ֖שׁ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה מָ֠לַךְ יְהוֹאָ֨שׁ בֶּן־יְהוֹאָחָ֤ז עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן שֵׁ֥שׁ עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה שָׁנָֽה	10		In the thirty seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash child of Jehoahaz reigned over Israel in Samaria, sixteen years.	3e	4C	18 22
וַיַּֽעֲשֶׂ֥ה הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה לֹ֣א סָ֗ר מִכָּל־חַטֹּ֞אות יָרָבְעָ֧ם בֶּן־נְבָ֛ט אֲשֶׁר־הֶחֱטִ֥יא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בָּ֥הּ הָלָֽךְ	11		And he did evil in the eyes of Yahweh. He did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam, child of Nabat, who made Israel to sin, walking in it.	3c	4B	11 25
וְיֶ֨תֶר דִּבְרֵ֤י יוֹאָשׁ֙ וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה וּגְב֣וּרָת֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִלְחַ֔ם עִ֖ם אֲמַצְיָ֣ה מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֑ה הֲלֽוֹא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל	12		And the remaining words of Joash and all that he undertook and his valour, how he warred with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the record of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?	3d	4C	30 20
וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב יוֹאָשׁ֙ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו וְיָרָבְעָ֖ם יָשַׁ֣ב עַל־כִּסְא֑וֹ וַיִּקָּבֵ֤ר יוֹאָשׁ֙ בְּשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן עִ֖ם מַלְכֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל	13		And Joash was laid out with his ancestors, and Jeroboam sat on his throne. And Joash was entombed in Samaria with the kings of Israel.	3e	4C	18 15
וֶֽאֱלִישָׁע֙ חָלָ֣ה אֶת־חָלְי֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָמ֖וּת בּ֑וֹ וַיֵּ֨רֶד אֵלָ֜יו יוֹאָ֣שׁ מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וַיֵּ֤בְךְּ עַל־פָּנָיו֙ וַיֹּאמַ֔ר אָבִ֣י ׀ אָבִ֔י רֶ֥כֶב יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וּפָרָשָֽׁיו	14		And Elisha was ill with his illness of which he was dying, and Joash king of Israel went down to him and wept to his face, saying, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and his cavaliers.	3e	4C	14 34
וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ אֱלִישָׁ֔ע קַ֖ח קֶ֣שֶׁת וְחִצִּ֑ים וַיִּקַּ֥ח אֵלָ֖יו קֶ֥שֶׁת וְחִצִּֽים	15		And Elisha said to him, Take bow and arrows, and he took to him bow and arrows.	3e	4C	13 10
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ׀ לְמֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל הַרְכֵּ֤ב יָֽדְךָ֙ עַל־הַקֶּ֔שֶׁת וַיַּרְכֵּ֖ב יָד֑וֹ וַיָּ֧שֶׂם אֱלִישָׁ֛ע יָדָ֖יו עַל־יְדֵ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ	16		And he said to the king of Israel, Ride your hand on the bow. And he rode his hand. And Elisha set his hands over the hands of the king.	3c	4C	22 14
וַיֹּ֗אמֶר פְּתַ֧ח הַחַלּ֛וֹן קֵ֖דְמָה וַיִּפְתָּ֑ח וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֱלִישָׁ֤ע יְרֵה֙ וַיּ֔וֹר וַיֹּ֗אמֶר חֵץ־תְּשׁוּעָ֤ה לַֽיהוָה֙ וְחֵ֣ץ תְּשׁוּעָ֣ה בַֽאֲרָ֔ם וְהִכִּיתָ֧ אֶת־אֲרָ֛ם בַּאֲפֵ֖ק עַד־כַּלֵּֽה	17		And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened. And Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the salvation of Yahweh, and the arrow of salvation in Aram, and you will strike the Aramaeans in Aphaq till consumed.	3c	4C	13 40
וַיֹּ֛אמֶר קַ֥ח הַחִצִּ֖ים וַיִּקָּ֑ח וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לְמֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ הַךְ־אַ֔רְצָה וַיַּ֥ךְ שָֽׁלֹשׁ־פְּעָמִ֖ים וַֽיַּעֲמֹֽד	18		And he said, Take the arrows. And he took. And he said to the king of Israel, Strike the earth. And he struck three times and he stood.	3d	4C	10 23
וַיִּקְצֹ֨ף עָלָ֜יו אִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ לְהַכּ֨וֹת חָמֵ֤שׁ אוֹ־שֵׁשׁ֙ פְּעָמִ֔ים אָ֛ז הִכִּ֥יתָ אֶת־אֲרָ֖ם עַד־כַּלֵּ֑ה וְעַתָּ֕ה שָׁלֹ֥שׁ פְּעָמִ֖ים תַּכֶּ֥ה אֶת־אֲרָֽם	19		And against him the man of God was enraged, and he said, To strike five or six times. Then you strike the Aramaeans till consumed. But now, three times, you will strike the Aramaeans.	3d	4C	33 13
וַיָּ֥מָת אֱלִישָׁ֖ע וַֽיִּקְבְּרֻ֑הוּ וּגְדוּדֵ֥י מוֹאָ֛ב יָבֹ֥אוּ בָאָ֖רֶץ בָּ֥א שָׁנָֽה	20		And Elisha died, and they entombed him. Raiding parties of Moab came into the land at the coming in of the year.	3d	4A	11 13
וַיְהִ֞י הֵ֣ם ׀ קֹבְרִ֣ים אִ֗ישׁ וְהִנֵּה֙ רָא֣וּ אֶֽת־הַגְּד֔וּד וַיַּשְׁלִ֥יכוּ אֶת־הָאִ֖ישׁ בְּקֶ֣בֶר אֱלִישָׁ֑ע וַיֵּ֜לֶךְ וַיִּגַּ֤ע הָאִישׁ֙ בְּעַצְמ֣וֹת אֱלִישָׁ֔ע וַיְחִ֖י וַיָּ֥קָם עַל־רַגְלָֽיו	21		And it happened they were entombing someone, and behold, they saw the raiding party, and they cast the person into the tomb of Elisha, and the person proceeded to touch the bones of Elisha, and he revived and arose onto his feet.	3e	4C	27 22
וַֽחֲזָאֵל֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אֲרָ֔ם לָחַ֖ץ אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כֹּ֖ל יְמֵ֥י יְהוֹאָחָֽז	22		And Hazael king of Aram gripped Israel, all the days of Jehoahaz.	3e	4B	14 7
וַיָּחָן֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֹתָ֤ם וַֽיְרַחֲמֵם֙ וַיִּ֣פֶן אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם לְמַ֣עַן בְּרִית֔וֹ אֶת־אַבְרָהָ֖ם יִצְחָ֣ק וְיַֽעֲקֹ֑ב וְלֹ֤א אָבָה֙ הַשְׁחִיתָ֔ם וְלֹֽא־הִשְׁלִיכָ֥ם מֵֽעַל־פָּנָ֖יו עַד־עָֽתָּה	23		And Yahweh was gracious with them, and had compassion on them, and was present to them for the sake of his covenant with Abraham, Yitschaq, and Jacob, and did not consent to destroy them, and did not cast them from his presence till now.	3e	4C	33 19
וַיָּ֖מָת חֲזָאֵ֣ל מֶֽלֶךְ־אֲרָ֑ם וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ בֶּן־הֲדַ֥ד בְּנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו	24		And Hazael king of Aram died, and Ben-hadad his son reigned in his stead.	3d	4B	10 10
וַיָּ֜שָׁב יְהוֹאָ֣שׁ בֶּן־יְהוֹאָחָ֗ז וַיִּקַּ֤ח אֶת־הֶֽעָרִים֙ מִיַּד֙ בֶּן־הֲדַ֣ד בֶּן־חֲזָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר לָקַ֗ח מִיַּ֛ד יְהוֹאָחָ֥ז אָבִ֖יו בַּמִּלְחָמָ֑ה שָׁלֹ֤שׁ פְּעָמִים֙ הִכָּ֣הוּ יוֹאָ֔שׁ וַיָּ֖שֶׁב אֶת־עָרֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל	25		And Jehoash child of Jehoahaz returned and he took the cities from the hand of Ben-hadad, child of Hazael, which he had taken from the hand of Jehoahaz his father in battle. Three times Joash struck him and restored the cities of Israel.	3d	4C	43 19
