Micah 5

You may know that I am thoroughly biased toward the elimination of the violence that is within each of us. It is a destruction that comes through the practice of discipleship. It is not easily learned. Be angry - but without sin. It may be my bias, or it may be that I have selected glosses in the past that make Micah sound the way I would expect (even if this is unexpected). The average person thinks the OT God is violent.  No - there is plenty of violence in the OT story, because we are violent. Read more carefully. But reading alone is hardly sufficient.

Your hand will be exalted over your foes - but at what expense? All your weapons of war and civilization is cut off. As it is written elsewhere - behold, I make all things new. If anyone is 'in' this anointing, that one is a new creation. If we are in such newness, where is our exalted hand?

I doubt that God is in to schadenfreude, so I have refused some traditional translations here (as usual).

Micah 5 Fn Min Max Syll
1 But you, Bethlehem Ephratah, being of little account among the thousands of Judah, from you for me comes forth one who is to become governor in Israel,
and whose goings forth came before from the days of eras past.

2 Therefore he will yield them until the time she who is to give birth gives birth,
and his remaining kin return to the children of Israel.
3e 4B 12
14
3 And he will stand and shepherd in the strength of Yahweh by the pride of the name of Yahweh his God.
And they will persist, for now he will be great to the ends of the earth.
3e 4B 18
12
4 And this will be peace.
Ashur, when he comes into our land and when he treads into our citadels, then we will raise against him seven shepherds and eight libations of humanity.
3e 4C 6

5 And they will shepherd the land of Ashur with the sword and the land of Nimrod in her openings,
so he will deliver us from Ashur that comes into our land and that treads within our borders.

6 And the residue of Jacob will be within many peoples, as dew from Yahweh, as copious showers on field-grass,
that is unexpected by each and unhoped for by the children of humanity.
3e 4C 28

7 And the residue of Jacob will be among the nations within many peoples like a lion among the beasts of the forest, like a young lion among troops of sheep,
who if such passes through both tramples and tears and there is none to deliver.
