Exodus 37

I'm sure some of you guessed which chapter I would do next. Having done chapter 25, chapter 37 was 70% translated by automation. But it still represents some tough choices.

The side problem is highlighted here in two consecutive verses where three words are used all essentially meaning side. I have made a decision to include rib here and in Genesis. I have used side for צד, rib for צלע, and sidewall for קיר, a new word in this section. Also in this section is the word for flank (also thigh), ירך.

I am parsing synonyms by semantic domain so I may miss some things. I would rather be more strict. If these are blunders, I am sure they will turn up again - it seems to work that way. I said to myself: Perhaps I will find a new synonym in English for one of these... maybe rib? - could be, for I haven't used it yet and I likely never will. If I do, then - I have done it. It works. But it must change not only Gen 1:21-22 but also Exod 25 and 37... coming right up.

There - that's some of the internal struggle that occupies my mind these days. Rib works and well. You may disagree with purchase for the reach of the light - but I like that too. Convince me otherwise! I am thinking that the ark represents a core presence in humanity of God - already God with us, Emanuel.) It is no accident that the language reflects Genesis.

I have tried to be careful with make and construct. I used construct in Genesis 1 - but both are the same Hebrew root. Sometimes I am arbitrary with my synonyms - but within the constraint of not using the same English gloss for two differing Hebrew roots.

Both lustrous and clean (טהר) are perhaps implying pure (ברר). But pure as such is not used in these sections.

Note the story-telling aspect of this pair of chapters and the subtle change in tense and intent of the instructions as planned (chapter 25) and executed (chapter 37). More to come...
