Hosea 1

The first chapter of Hosea is 2 verses shorter than English versions. These verses will show up in chapter 2. Note the comma in verse 3, highlighted by the change in accent for the last two words of the verse.

This is like other prophecies, a lived parable. Words happen. They have an impact. So do the action in love and love will happen. Love the stranger who lives among you. (One of the gems of Leviticus - we haven't got there yet, though good Jewish children read Leviticus first). Hosea is describing the consequences of income inequality.

Hosea 1 Fn Min Max Syll
1 The word of Yahweh that happened to Hosea, child of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah, kings of Judah,
and in the days of Jeroboam, child of Joash, king of Israel.

2 The commencement of the word of Yahweh in Hosea.
And Yahweh said to Hosea, Go, take for yourself a wife of prostitution and succession of prostitution, for in prostitution the land is prostituting itself from following Yahweh.

for yet a little, and I will visit the blood of Jezreel over the house of Jehu, and I will eradicate the kingdoms of the house of Israel.

for I will not again any more have compassion for the house of Israel, for they will be lifted up and borne away.

and not will I save them by the bow or by the sword or by war, by horses or by cavalry.
